costume: batman Lachlan had truly discovered what it was like to be a woman. He'd spent nearly an hour getting ready for the ball, which, for the fifth year Hufflepuff, was almost too absurd.
His costume was a bit too tight around the crotch, and so as Lachlan Parker walked up the staircase to get to the Great Hall, he tried to remove the wedgie that had been lodged there since his journey had begun.
Looking around the Entrance Hall for his Robin (Chase) and Joker (Trent), Lachlan barely recognised anyone. There were plenty of elaborate costumes around the place, and for a second, Lachlan felt a bit underdressed.
Where were they? He was getting thirsty.

costume: english knight
Taking a deep breath, Ted stood in the doorframe of the Great Hall and took in the sight. The Hall had been transformed, and if Ted didn’t know any better, he would have said it was magical. There were pumpkins floating around in the air and nearly everything had been draped in some sort of black material.
The costumes that whizzed and danced in front of him made his head spin; the amount of sheer effort that some of the people had gone to was amazing. He could hardly recognise the people in front of him from the amount of make-up, masks and frills that zoomed around. Now he felt lame, blocking up the doorway in his silly knight outfit.
This was going to be a long night.

Evan glided past the first year students that stood in his way, his billowing Dracula cape blending into the crowd of meshed black and other colours. He walked with purpose, knowing what tonight would hold in store for him. He’d been over the plan with his uncle and tonight was the night. John Dawlish would soon no longer be Professor of Defence Against the Dark Arts at Hogwarts.
He pushed past the sea of people crowding the door of the Great Hall and made his way towards the side door, where he knew his uncle would be waiting for him. His great uncle, to be precise.

Albert stood inside one of the antechambers off from the side of the Great Hall, hidden from unwanted eyes by layers of Notice-Me-Not and Disillusionment charms. Shrouded in a bloody grave-shroud, he scanned the gathering for any trace of his great-nephew, the only member of his family-by-marriage with whom he felt any kinship at all.
The gasps of awe and excited smiles of the students caused Albert's lips to curl into a small smile, as cruel and white as winter. Muggleborns and blood-traitors though many of them were, it was pleasant to see that they were civilized enough to appreciate the ancient Wizarding tradition that was Halloween.
Turning his back on the festivities within, Albert headed outdoors to the outside courtyard to wait; first for his nephew and then for their target.

This was it. It was finally the night that they had been waiting for and Ash was fit to burst with excitement. Him and Rhoan had been plotting this for weeks now - endless pages of scrapped ideas and rethought out plans. And now, they finally had it.
Over the past week they had taken turns to tend for the potion that the had been brewing in secrecy. Love potion. A very... specific love potion. One that they had gone to great lengths to collect and infuse a single strand of hair of one of the schools most dearest Professors. Katherine Dupree wasn't going to know what had hit her tonight once this little beauty was in the systems of a good many students.
Ash fiddled with the small vial that he'd slipped into his pocket. The key to their night of fun. The product of weeks of planning. The result of sleepless nights...
Fidgeting uncomfortable in his ghost buster costume and tugging the leg back down, Ash watched as students filed into the Great Hall. Most of them he couldn't recognize behind their elaborate costumes and theater make up, but there were a few that he could. All the while, Ash had one question on his mind as he watched them: Would they be the one to drink the potion?
Ash didn't know when Dupree would get here, of if she was coming at all, but he was sure there'd be some interesting happenings regardless of where she was.
Now all he had to do was wait for his brother (who was such a girl about getting ready) and then wait till the Hall was busy enough that no one would be paying attention to him as they slipped in the potion.
This was now a waiting game...

Elena finally arrived at the Great Hall after escaping the broom cupboard where Connors had stupidly dragged her in by mistake, hesitating for only a moment in the door way so she could take in what she was seeing. Not that she'd admit it but the Professors had done a good job with the decorations and all together theme of night. Elena couldn't really remember a time when the Great Hall looked this good...maybe she should suggest they keep it this way.
With a shrug of her shoulders she walked in, her eyes drifting over the various costumes people were wearing, admittedly impressed with some where with others she merely chuckled and shook her head, muttering insults under her breath.
The crowd parted as she reached the table, grabbing herself a glass of punch she pulled a face at some snot nosed Hufflepuff fourth year, laughing lightly when the young boy scurried away frightened. Again Elena allowed her eyes to drift around the hall, looking for anyone she might want to actually talk to...

Andromeda stepped into the great hall, her large, but half as large as it usually was hoop-skirt billowed around her. This was it, her last chance to forget the whole thing and head back up to her common room and spend the evening in blissful silence alone with a book, or endure hours of what was sure to be an interesting experience. With a heaving sigh she walked in, her corset forcing her already superb posture even straighter. She felt a little out of place, at least a little more than usual. Her dress looked overblown and over-fashioned compared to the girl that were running around in mini-skirts and tight-fitting suits. The sad thing was was this was one of her normal dresses, her family had always clung stubbornly to the past and apparently that applied to clothing as well. She was sure threst of her night was going to be spent keeping her dress from getting stepped, what a lovely prospect.

Stefan hated these events with a passion and was actually rethinking making an appearence. However he had persuaded a beautiful somewhat naive Gryffindor to attend so how would it look if he himself ditched the ball. He'd actually been looking forward to finding out if she would indeed show, and if so what she'd wear.
Slipping his mask into place Stefan stepped into the Great Hall, his eyes slowly scanning the crowd as he began to manouvere his way through them. So far he had yet to see Leander, but with it still being early he didn't worry and instead found himself a comfortable place in the hall where he could observe the entrance. Sharing a nod of greeting with his fellow Slytherin's, Stefan refocused his attention on the doorway, always offering a smirk to the pretty girls who looked his way, my they all did look tasty tonight...
However, this particular night Stefan was on the lookout for one person and was indeed looking forward to the nights events, he had a feeling this ball was going to get interesting soon...

It was with a bounce in her step that Professor Katherine Dupree made her way back down to the Great Hall. It had taken a group of them most of the day to perfect the Great Hall for tonight's ball, and Katherine believed they'd done a great job. She'd incorporated a lot of Muggle treats too, as it was mainly a holiday celebrated by them.
Smoothing her dress down once more she stepped through the door, a bright smile lighting up her face when she saw the students already piling in, some already dancing but a lot admiring the decorations. Blowing out a breath she moved further into the hall, sticking close by the tables as her eyes searched the crowds, all the while trying to tell herself she wasn't looking for John when in reality that's exactly who she was looking for...

Leander had spent ages altering her look for the night, knowing that she was acting very out of character for herself, but she just couldn't help it. She wanted to go to the ball and she wanted to look as good as she could. She tried to convice herself that Stefan wasn't the reason but she was lying and she knew it. He was every reason. The reason.
Now that she'd settled on a look and was headed downstairs she was beginning to feel a little self conscious of her own appearance. She was a muggle born and like most, had grown up with trick or treating and dressing up in cheap costumes at halloween, but now, she didn't feel that cheap costumes would get her anywhere in the night. But, would an old dress she never wore full of recently made rips and tears really work either? She wasn't even dressed up as anything in particular really. And the tears up the sides? Weren't they too much? Could you see too much?
During the whole walk down she pulled and tugged at the material. The worst of it was, she'd tattered up the dress ready for tonight, remembering it to be just below the knee... She didn't realize she'd grown so much since she last wore it because it seemed a good bit shorter now.
The nearer she got the the ground floor the more people she saw, and the more out of place she felt. She shouldn't have done this. She should have just stayed upstairs in the tower like she was planning to... But, she'd told Stefan she'd be there.
Peering around the doors that led into the Great Hall, Leanders' jaw dropped. The room was stunning. It was like nothing she'd ever seen before. The professors had really pulled out all of the stops tonight.
Without even realizing it was happening her feet carried her into the room while her mind was still caught on all the fascinating decorations adorning the room. It was only when she was quite a way inside that she snapped back to reality and remembered exactly where she was.
Her eyes scanned the room. Where was he? What would he think?

Post by Emily Prescott on Mar 21, 2012 0:45:49 GMT
Emily knew how flushed her face was as she finally arrived at the Great Hall, her lips still tingling from her run in with Chase. It had taken some convincing on her part but finally she'd made it out and to the ball, unable to wipe the smile off her face. Though when she walked into the hall itself she felt her mouth form an 'o' shape when she looked around.
The hall looked incredible, way better than last year or the year before that. Emily watched many of her peers as they danced past her into the hall, and she couldn't help but smile again at the excitement everyone seemed to be radiating. It was as if they all knew what a truly wonderful night it was going to be.
As for the costumes, Emily couldn't remember seeing such a wide variety of different costumes before. Each one was more spectacular than the last, and looking down at her own she smiled. Being a Muggle born she'd gone for a costume representing a classic children's tale. Biting down on her lip Emily stepped into the crowd, all the while looking forward to spending a great night with her friends, she was sure tonight would be a memorable one....

Narcissa was practically in love with how her costume turned out that night and she walked into the Great Hall with a huge smile/smirk on her face knowing how utterly amazing she looked. There was nothing that could bring her night down now. Not anything or anyone. Even if she saw Amycus or Lucius her happy mood would probably breeze her through. Hell she might even accept a dance! She just felt that great. She'd arrived early in order to try and ensure the final preparations were in order and that she knew the room clearly in order for her to be able to effectively carry out her prefect duties. She knew it was a ball, but she was still a prefect. On the way to the ball, and as every one began to arrive, she saw eyes turn on her, some in envy, some in longing, some in lust. Her smirk just grew and grew. This really was going to be a fantastic night after all. She really was sure that nothing would be able to get her down. After half an hour or so the great hall had filled up a lot and most of the school must have made it already. It was then that Narcissa decided to go and get herself a drink and relax and enjoy the night a little. And what a great night it was going to be.

Was she nervous? Not really. She had nothing to prove. She just wanted to see what would happen. Ferret leaned against the wall, smiling widely. She adored her costume. The nun was to poke fun at the fact she was a lesbian.
The naughty part was for her own amusement.
She smiled and looked around, placing her hands inside her large sleeves. She was excited to say the least. But she felt it was wise to avoid the punch. Someone was bound to spike it with something. And she wanted to part in that. Hell, she would spike it herself but she was too busy trying to get a good look at everyone's costumes.
She was surprised by the variety. Perhaps she had just never noticed before, to insecure in her own skin. But there were elegant, funny, sexy, amusing costumes by several of the students. It was fun to see a vampire dancing with a mummy. Halloween was a great time of year. She pushed herself off the wall with a smiled and headed over to the food.
