Powdered esophagus of a what? Amycus sat at the back of the classroom with a very puzzled expression on his face. he knew he wasn't good at potions, but this was a whole new level of what the hell am I meant to be doing. "Cissy," Amycus leant over to Narcissa Black, who was his lab partner for the day. "What are we meant to be doing?"
Slughorn paced up and down the front of the classroom after finishing his explanation of the chalk-written words on the board. But, Amycus still wasn't getting it. He sat in his seat, mouth gaping wide open as he tried to figure out the fifth step of the Mouth-Itching Antidote they were meant to be doing.
He looked down at his own potion, which was a sluggish-grey looking colour, and then over at Narcissa's, which was the pristine gold colour it was meant to be. Well, sh*t. Giving up, he added the rest of the cut up sloopy-worm or whatever the hell it was called and added it to his potion, which coughed up small black bubbles.
"Cissy," he said, leaning over to look at what she was doing. "What are you doing on Friday night?" Thank god Lucius wasn't in earshot, else Amycus would he hexed right then and there. Lucius made a point to let people know that he had his eyes on Narcissa, and if anyone else even remotely tried anything, they would be shoved into the rear end of a blast-ended skrewt.
"We should go on a date." Subtlety was not Amycus' strong point.

This was not how she wanted to be spending her afternoon. Narcissa winced and pulled a face as some kind of goop oozed out of the ingredient she was cutting. She made sure that she didn’t touch the disgusting stuff as she flicked it towards her cauldron. Thankfully, it turned the gold color it was supposed to be and she let out a sigh of relief. She heard her name and looked over as Amycus asked what it was they were supposed to be doing. She was half tempted to say she didn’t have a clue, because that was the way she felt, but considering her potion was coming along as it should she doubted she’d get away with saying that. ”Honestly, Amycus! Slughorn has just explained it. Cut it up and put it in slowly until the potions turns gold, that’s when you know you’ve used enough.”She took a glance over at his potion and winced. Her own hadn’t been that disgusting color for a long time. She mentally thought back over each step. ”Did you even bother to add the root after you ground it?” she could see the small pile of power still sitting on the corner of the bench they shared and knew he hadn’t. She turned back to her own potion and saw him chuck all of the goopy stuff into his own. What she wasn’t expecting was for him to be leaning so far over her shoulder when she turned back. He was far too close for comfort as he asked her what she was doing on Friday night. Her eyes narrowed suspiciously. What the hell was he after? She wasn’t helping him with any more homework that she was sure of. Her jaw nearly connected with the test when he told her they should go on a date. An image of this subtlety-lacking guy trying to drool all over her came to mind and it was all she could do not to laugh out loud. ”You can’t be serious…”

Amycus frowned as he looked back towards his own potion, comparing it with Narcissa's. His potion was nowhere near the gold colour that Slughorn was expecting. "Cissy," Amycus said again, leaning over to look inside her cauldron. "Mine's crap compared to yours. Swap?" He was joking, but with Amycus' deadpan expression and monotone voice, it was definitely hard to tell. That, and Amycus was rubbish at telling any jokes. But, in all honesty, he didn't really care about the potion. He had bigger things on his mind, and one of them was persisting with asking Narcissa Black out on a date on Friday night.
He shifted his seat over so he was uncomfortably close to the beautiful girl beside him, staring down at the chopping on the board in front of her. Amycus, as a child, had never really learned about things like personal space or when to stop annoying others, and didn't have many friends as a result. He sniffed loudly, as he had a runny nose. "No, I'm serious," Amycus said, his vacant expression looking over at Narcissa, wondering why she wasn't saying yes already.
"Friday night. You and me. A date." His big blue eyes stared into Narcissa's brown ones. "Plus, it means you won't have to date Lucius." If that was an incentive at all. Tactless Amycus, vying for a date. What would his sister think?
"Well, I like you, you like me. We should date," he shrugged. The thought had occurred to him as the mudbloods and bloodtraitors he had attacked the previous weekend were being shipped off to Mungo's. He was lonely, and he knew that Narcissa was having trouble with Lucius Malfoy. Heck, everyone knew about that. It seemed like the best option for both of them.

She turned and glared at him. Swap? Was he stupid? More like, did he think Slughorn was stupid? ”You know if you just added the powdered root you might actually be on track?” She looked him over. She never really understood him. It was like… he wasn’t all there with it sometimes… He was a few knuts short of a sickle, as the old proverbs used to say. When he told her he was serious about the date she didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. She knew what Amycus was like. Once he set his mind to something like this he just didn’t know how to take no for an answer. So while she felt like laughing at the absurdity of that particular moment, she also felt like crying, knowing that no matter what she said, she hadn’t heard the end of it. Just what she needed; another intolerable stalker. He continued on, but it was only when he played the ‘you won’t have to date Lucius’ line that she really paid attention. She couldn’t stop the laugh that followed. ”You’re kidding, right? You do realize that by asking me out you’re only ensuring a fight with him?” Now that, Narcissa wouldn’t mind seeing. They were both idiots with no tact or appeal, but it would be interesting to see who would win out. Lucius was older and ‘smarter’, but it was no secret that Amycus was in with the Death Eaters and likely had a few darker spells up his sleeve. Narcissa spluttered. ”Like you?” She couldn’t help the incredulous tone in her voice. What had she done to give him the impression that she liked him? She shuddered. Why was it that she attracted these sorts of people to her? Lucius and Amycus? She could like of… better candidates. She let the question run through her mind. If faced with the pair of them, Lucius or Amycus, who would she choose? She could just imagine the looks on Bella’s face if she saw her with either of them…

Amycus ignored her comment about the potion sitting in his cauldron. What was another 'T' to add to his assessment, anyway. No, Amycus, being the stubborn blood-snob he was was suddenly very interested in pursuing Narcissa Black, the beautiful witch sitting beside him.
"A fight?" Amycus said, almost wincing at the thought. He came to the unfortunate conclusion that Lucius would most definitely win. "Well, it's worth a shot." If anything, Amycus was most definitely not a romantic. There would be no fighting for Narcissa's honour - Amycus would most likely wimp out by the end of it, but seeing as there was no fight in the immediate future, he decided to pursue it anyway.
Slughorn took his place up the front of the classroom and told the sea of students to pack up their things, as the lesson had ended for the day. Amycus, not even bothering to vanish the grey goop from his cauldron, slung his school satchel over his shoulder and ran after Narcissa, who had left in an awful hurry.
"Awww, come on, Cissy!" Amycus called as he ran after her, causing the people around him to turn and look. "Just one date!" He didn't even realise he was creating a scene and was probably making things rather awkward and embarrassing for Narcissa. He trotted along behind her as the two of them reached the entrance to the Slytherin Common Room. "It'll be fun," he winked, trying to make it sound enticing.
What he didn't know, however, was that Lucius Malfoy was on the other side of the wall, probably hearing everything they were saying.

Narcissa rolled her eyes. ”No. It’s really not.”Slughorn hadn’t even finished tell them that the lesson was over before she was flying out of the door, not caring about her potion or the rest of her ingredient. All she wanted was to get away from Amycus. Of course, this just wasn’t her day as he was out right on her heels and whining after her. He was insisting that their ‘just one date’ would be fun, and once again, she almost laughed out loud. Fun with Amycus? She could only begin to imagine. ”I think we have different understandings of the word ‘fun’…” She muttered it under her breath, concentrating on getting back to the common room where she could at least go to her room to escape from her. Amycus twittered on behind here the whole way. Gods! She was getting some really weird looks – from Slytherins and non Slytherins alike. She groaned. This really wasn’t her day, was it? With a sigh, she muttered the password to the common room under her breath and slipped through, not closing it fast enough to delay Amycus as he grabbed it before she could pull it back shut. Unfortunately for her, and probably Amycus too judging by the glare they were both receiving, Lucius Malfoy stood facing them, standing between the entrance way and the stairs. Great… now what ? An idea struck her and even while she was inwardly cringing at the very idea of it, she couldn’t stop the words that came out of her mouth as she turned to face Amycus again. ”You’re right, Amycus. It does sound fun. I’ll accept.”She gritted her teeth and gave him a brief hug, almost hating herself, before skirting away, fully intending to side step them both and escape up the stairs. What the hell had she just done. Glancing across the room she saw one face she wished she hadn’t –Bellatrix. And she didn’t look best pleased. (OOC: I'll C&P the last part of this into the Slytherin Common room!)CONTINUED IN THE SLYTHERIN COMMON ROOM!
