Instead of heading back up the stairs when he left the kitchens, Chase headed further along the corridor until he stood at the entrance to the Hufflepuff common room. He hoped that none of his room mates would be in when he got there but he had a feeling that they would be. Lachie used to be out all the time but now he more often than not stayed in. Though, Chase still crossed his fingers that Trent had suceeded in luring him out for the evening. To be totally honest, he was surprised by how few people he'd passed that he knew. No one had been asking questions.
Glancing around the common room he could see two familiar heads near the fireplace but thankfully they were facing the other way. Lowering his head he quick walked across and down the short passage to his dorm room. At least if his friends were out there they were unlikely to bombard him with questions. Chase had had mroe than enough of the interrogation before he left for the first time that night.
He knew he didn't have long so he didn't waste time, just grabbed a fresh shirt, doused himself in cologne, and finger-combed his hair back into place. He wasn't exactly feeling fresh, but he didn't feel as sticky as he had been before hand.
It was only now, after walking the whole tour of the castle, that he realised just how much of a treck his was sending Emily on. Damn she was likely to hex him for this... hopefully she'd worn sensible shoes though. He knew a lot of girls tended to go for those stupid high heels which, although looked sexy sometimes, looked so damn impractical and painlful. Why did they make themselves suffer those things? It was things like that which made him really thankful he was male.
Fresh shirt, freshened up, and hair in place, he headed back out of the room with a final glance in the mirror. Now he just needed to get out unseen again.
Luck was on his side he seemed as he slipped back out of the common room, and hopefully it would stay on his side for the rest of the night. Where was Emily now? How far on his trail had she managed to get? Had she found all his notes? Did they make sense? Surely she wouldn't be far enough along on his trail to risk them bumping into each other as he headed back up the stairs. He would have to be extra careful from now on.
Chase took the stairs slowly. He'd just got changed because he'd ran around like a nutter, he couldn't be doing with needing another change again. No. He'd pace himself. She wouldn't be that close yet. Probably no further than the library.
It was only one floor to where he needed to be and the broom cupboard was just along the corridor. There were other broom closets in the school of course but most of them were actually, funnily enough, filled with brooms. This one seemed to be the only one that was fairly empty. He knew. A little too well from past experiences...
Slipping open the door he was glad to see that there was no one inside already - being a Friday night and all. Here was hoping that it would remain empty too. He didn't think Emily would appreciate walking in on random students going at it either. If only he knew that 'specification' spell, or whatever the hang it was called. Something like that. He knew there was some sort of spell or charm or something that let you charm door handles to only open when certain people touched it. But, Chase of course didn't pay that much attention and hadn't bothered to learn it. Maybe he would after this. He was gathering quite a list of spells and charms he should learn. All with a specific purpose/intent of course, but what else would you expect from a guy like Chase?
Concentrating back on the present, he quickly pulled another folded note from his pocket and read through it.
What of me did you expect? Not the end of the trail I suspect.
There’s one more stop so listen close. Venture up from first to forth.
Something wasn't quite right with it and he frowned. He didn't like it. He growled in frustration. These riddle-type trails weren't easy to think up. And he wasn't much one for fancy poetry and rhyme and stuff. He took out his wand a did a small changing spell on his note. There was no doubt that Emily would be a little fed up with his trail by time she got here.
Chase read it over several times. It wasn't much better but it was a slight improvement to what it had been.
He stuck it to the inside of the door. Now he just needed to get up to the fourth floor and put things in place. Closing the door of the broom closet he started to walk away. He only got a few steps when he faltered and an idea struck him. Turning back to the closet he opened it and conjured a small bouquet of flowers.
He stared at them. He hadn't consciously though about what flowers to go in it but the mix of red and white roses, lilies, and lavender seemed quite a nice mix. He charmed them to stick lightly to the inside of the door too so that they couldn't be missed.
Happy with the result, he closed the door and headed left, away from the main staircase. He'd taken a little longer there than he'd been intended to and he didn't want to risk a run in.
Climbing behind the tapestry of a pair of dancing horsemen he headed along the secret passage that he knew brought him out at the far end of the fourth floor. It was only when he was half way up that he began to wonder if the flowers had really been a good idea. She'd already have the food from the kitchens... With a shrug he continued on. There was no going back now. He had one last thing to set up.
Chase couldn't wait.

Hey Gorgeous!
What, honestly, did you expect? The trail to end here, I suspect.

Waiting for you x
