Emily had no idea why she was back up on the Astronomy roof, why she was even out alone after dark, especially with what had happened, what she and her two friends had been through. Emily even knew who one of the attackers was so why she'd risked coming out after curfew, all by herself was completely beyond her...maybe it was because for the first time ever in her life she was craving solitude. The stares and whispers from her dorm mates, her peers, she could handle, their questions and looks of pity though were another story, she hated being pitied, all it did was make it harder for her to put that night behind her.
The astronomy roof was the one place she knew that wouldn't happen though. The stars were glittering in the sky above which made this little late night excursion all the more worth it. Placing her wand neatly beside her, Emily sat in her spot on the roof edge, letting her feet dangle over the ledge whilst she turned her face skywards. A soft smile spread over her pretty face as she sought comfort and peace from the stars above. Hoping that they could somehow make sense of this world for her.
It was hard not to remember her last trip up here, the night before the attack, but Emily forced it to the back of her mind. She'd sworn never to think about it again, Chase had apologised and that was good enough for her. Picking up her wand, Emily felt an instant calm wash over her knowing she had hold of it, ready for any attack. Deep down she knew it wouldn't happen but with that night still replaying in her mind, she now knew you had to be ready for anything. Closing her eyes tightly, Emily took a calming breath not hearing the approaching footsteps in time.

Chase was restless. He couldn’t seem to get comfortable anywhere within the castle and now, he was beginning to get annoyed. After the booze up a few nights ago, Chase hadn’t been able to spend a whole lot of time with Lachie. And so, for most of the day, he’d been wandering around on his own, and actually getting some homework done. He’d hoped that come evening he’d find his friends again but he’d been wrong and they’d vanished before he had a chance to catch up with them. Since then, he’d been in the dorm, the common room, the library, the kitchens… Nowhere seemed right. His mind was racing and everywhere he looked he saw shadows – movements that weren’t real. Damn… if this was how he felt after knowing of the attacks, then he didn’t even want to know how Lachie and Emily must feel every time they walked down a corridor. Emily… Chase pictured her in his mind and smiled. He hadn’t spoken to her since the time in the hospital, but he’d seen her in the Great Hall at meal times from across the room and randomly around the corridors. She seemed to be doing okay and getting back into routine and he was sure he’d even seen her smiling a few times. He wanted to talk to her, but he wanted to leave her alone. He didn’t know what he wanted. But he got the feeling that she really didn’t want to remember anything to do with that night they’d spent in the Astronomy Tower. Chase hadn’t even realize where he’d been going, his mind caught on Emily, till he noticed he was at the base of the steps leading up to the Astronomy Tower in question. He smiled to himself. Lucky again? He doubted it. Being after curfew, Chase was surprised he hadn’t met anyone on the way up but he wasn’t going to complain. He wasn’t going to stand around and wait to get caught either. Decision made, he headed up the steps. He’d expected to find the tower empty but he was shocked to see a figure on the opposite side of the small space. Something in his chest gave a little leap of recognition. Emily. A million questions raced through his mind. What should he do? What should he say? Should he say anything? Should he just leave? Would she hex him if she saw him here? Damn… But now he was here the memory of what passed between them flooded his mind and the events of the time between then left him. He couldn’t stop his feet from guiding him over to where she was sitting. ”Boo,” He whispered softly, behind her ear, arms sliding around her waist a split second later. ”I saved your life, again. You owe me.”He laughed softly before stepping away from her, moving out of her space. He wasn’t going to push her. He wanted to gauge her reaction before he did anything. What ‘anything’ was he wasn’t sure, but he was waiting anyway.

Emily gasped when the arm slipped around her waist, and her hold on her wand automatically tightened ready to retaliate when a familiar voice whispered in her her ear. Instantly she relaxed and deemed him lucky as Chase moved out of the way before she could nudge him in the stomach for frightening her AGAIN. Shaking her head she laughed ever so slightly, loosening her hold on her wand as she turned to look at him, surprised he'd already moved so far away.
Emily began wondering whether he'd moved because last time she'd threatened him, or like everyone else was he worried about her. She really hoped it was the former of those two options, more sympathy was not what she wanted right now. She was willing to leave and go back to her room if he tried to be like that with her. "One of these days your going to knock us both over this ledge." she told him, arching an eyebrow as she looked at him, giving him a smile to let him know she wasn't upset.
Turning back she laid her wand beside her, her eyes scanning the view laid bare before her. "It's past curfew, shouldn't you be with your friends, getting drunk in the common room and hitting on girls?" she asked, being sure to add a teasing tone to her voice as she looked back over at him, so he knew she was joking. What she craved now was normalcy and for the most part, despite really not knowing each other, this was all she was used to with Chase, and it was a welcome distraction from her mind.

Like last time, all she did was gasp, but this time she recognized his voice and relaxed quickly enough. It was only then that he noticed the wand clenched in her hand. Damn he was lucky. It also told him that the attack was still playing on her mind. He didn’t blame her for keeping it close though. Her small laugh was enough to let him know that she wasn’t about to hex him to oblivion, which he was rather relieved about. ”You make it sound like we’re meeting here again, sometime.” He grinned, and sat against the ledge, still leaving enough space between them. ”Besides, you’re the one who keeps sitting so close to the edge. If it’s anyone’s fault it’s yours… Babe.”He winked at her and gave her a lopsided smile. He knew she didn’t particularly like the nickname and that was why he paused before saying, so she knew he’d done it intentionally as a joke and reminder of their previous visit, rather than just a slip up/automatic response. She looked back out over the view he took a few seconds just to look at her, committing the moment to memory. What she needed, was a distraction. Something to take her mind off the attack… with him, that something meant he should probably act pretty much how she expected and not act like he was holding her at arms reach or anything. After being in the same room as Lachie he knew how much his friends hated the sympathetic looks and acting different, so he was sure Emily felt the same. He shrugged his shoulders and cast her another of his most charming smiles. ”Been there, done that, got the t-shirt. Speaking of curfew, shouldn’t you be with your friends in the common room giggling about girly stuff, and… whatever it is you girls talk about?”He reached up a hand to brush back some hair behind her ear which had fallen into her face and he smiled, letting his fingers linger on her cheek. The rest of him kept its distance from her, not leaning too far into her personal space. Damn, what was with this girl having this effect on him?

Emily laughed lightly and shook her head, not responding to his comment about them meeting up here again. These two times had been purely accidental, not entirely unwelcome but accidents nonetheless. "Hey I've not fallen yet so I think if it's anyone's fault sweetie it'd be yours..." she responded, calling him sweetie again as she knew he didn't like that. The look on his face the last time they'd spoken up here had said it all. Besides, he had it coming if he was going to insist on calling her babe.
Rolling her eyes again she frowned and looked over at him. "Girlie stuff? Okay first I don't giggle and secondly I prefer to study..." she told him with a nod of her head and a smile. It wasn't like she'd hide the fact she'd much rather study than sit around gossiping about boys, make-up and hair-styles like her dorm-mates did. Though now she tried to think on it they hadn't really done anything like that since she'd returned, in fact the dorm room had been unusually silent apart from the odd whisper...another reason she really didn't fancy returning to her room at the moment.
Emily found herself instantly pulled out of her musings when Chase decided to brush a loose lock of her hair, back behind her ear, surprising her somewhat. The gesture was rather intimate, his fingers lingered somewhat longer than they should on her cheek, but instead of brushing his hand away she simply waited until he removed it and shot him a small, somewhat shy smile. "Thanks..." she said quietly, looking away from Chase she glanced up at the sky. "So what brings you back up here? I'm not getting in the way of some booty meeting again am I?" she asked, pulling a face as she turned to look over her shoulder towards the door, then back at Chase.

”Brainbox.” He winked at her. Personally, he wasn’t the type to spend his free time with his nose in a book, but he was used to those who did. He wasn’t surprised to find out that Emily was the studious type – she looked it, in a way. He smiled to himself, pretty, funny, and smart? What more could I guy ask for? He didn’t understand why his mind kept thinking of such things because he’d never been the type of guy to go for serious relationships or anything – in fact he spent most of his time vowing to be a life-loving bachelor till he was at least 30. So why was he thinking so much about this…thing, or whatever it was, with Emily? When she only thanked him when he brushed her hair back, and didn’t hex him, he couldn’t help but smile at her. He’d almost been expecting her wand pointed in his direction or at least his hand batted away. ”Oh, most definitely,” He winked, and gave her a lopsided grin, before answering seriously, ”I was restless. My mind won’t settle for a minute.” He was smart enough not to mention that it had anything to do with the attacks playing on his mind, but he was sure the unspoken words still hung in the air between them. There were several long seconds of silence between them before Chase couldn’t help but try and lighten the mood again. Thoughts raced through his mind but he wasn’t sure which to grasp and act upon. In the end, he chose the one that was probably the craziest of them all. Reaching around her he picked up her wand and flicked it once, casting the only non-verbal spell that he knew. A soft melody spun through the air, warming it. With a smile he stood and stood in front of Emily, knowing he was setting himself up to be refused and laughed at but choosing to take his chances. He held both hands straight out towards her and gave her a goofy look. ”Dance with me?”

Emily nodded her head lightly understanding what Chase meant when he said his mind wouldn't settle for a moment. Her own had been running at a hundred miles an hour for the past few days, with no signs of slowing down at all due to the obvious. It seemed though that now the whole school was on edge, all of them worried whether they were at risk of attack too and mulling over who the attackers could have been.
"Same here...I haven't been able to switch off in days..." she told him, surprised she'd actually admitted it out loud, to him of all people. There was no doubt in her mind that Chase was like the other students, his mind firmly on the attacks and what they meant for the school. "It's like some moments I manage to simply forget anything happened, then I'll catch a look from someone, a whisper, even a shadow on the wall and it's like I'm transported back to that forest..." Emily trailed off, shaking her head as her cheeks flushed bright red upon realising she'd once again shared way too much.
Hadn't she come here to forget? It looked like that task itself was impossible. As she began mulling over something to say, something to do to fill the silence that had fallen over them, Emily felt Chase reach around her. Following the path of his hand she frowned as he picked up her wand and flicked it once. Though before she could turn to him and ask what he was up to soft music filled the air around them. Pausing she chuckled softly and shook her head again before looking at him. "Smooth move..." she said.
There was a smile on Chase's face as he stood up, one Emily couldn't help but return as he held out both hands to her, a goofy expression filling his features as he asked her to dance. "You really are full of surprises aren't you..." she commented, biting down on her lip, debating her next move. With a small smile though she doubted there was any harm in accepting so nodded her head, her smile widening slightly, "But yes I would love to dance with you..." she said, slipping her smaller hands into his and allowing him to help her up.

Chase expected that she’d have been feeling the same way –worse- in the days since she’d been back after the attack, dodging shadows and chasing the memories. She’d been attacked here, how hard must it be to be in this school every day? The illusion of the school as a safe sanctuary had been shattered for them all. He watched her as she spoke and opened up about her feelings, the turned bright red. Chase was sure that she didn’t talk about her feelings much and bottled it up inside. What did it mean that she was opening up to him? He didn’t want to look as if he felt sorry for her because he knew she’d hate that, but he wanted her to know that she could open up to him the way she was without feeling embarrassed and to let her know that he was listening. He let her speak, letting his hand brush lightly over the top of her hand that was still on the wall, hoping that it would be seen as a comforting gesture. When the melody started to play she chuckled softly and as he put her wand back down he looked at her and winked, before standing up and asking her to dance. ”Bucket loads of them, Brainbox.” Again, another trademark smile. He hadn’t called her Babe this time, but he wondered what she’d say if he started calling her brainbox. When she slid her hands into his, accepting his offer to dance, he beamed. He really had been expecting a rejection but this was a very welcomed surprise. He pulled her gently to her feet, taking a few steps backwards away from the ledge before moving one hand to wrap around her waist and closing a little of the distance between them. For several minutes there was a comfortable silence between them as they swayed to the music in a simple dance. Chase kept his eyes on her the whole time. She was so… "Beautiful."

Emily smiled softly as Chase helped her to stand, pulling her up effortlessly. Naturally he moved them a few steps away from the ledge, before his hand slipped around her slim waist and he moved them closer together. Biting down on her lip, not looking right up at him, Emily kept one hand in his as the other rested lightly against his chest, able to feel the warmth of his skin through his shirt, but really it was the only place she could place it besides his shoulder which would just feel awkward considering he had her hand.
The mood although comfortable in a way was still slightly awkward for Emily. This is not what she'd expected of Chase, not to say he was incapable of being sweet and kind of romantic but they really didn't know each other and the dance felt extremely intimate. Something heavy hung in the air between them, what it was Emily had no idea but she knew something more was bubbling beneath the surface, something more than just flirting, this dance only confirmed it and if she was honest Emily really didn't know what she thought about that.
"Beautiful."
Emily heard the whispered word and felt her cheeks flush once more, not really sure what to say in return. When had they stopped joking around. Emily sighed quietly and forced herself to look up at Chase, "So..." she started, only just realising she didn't know what to say. Looking down she mulled over a few things in her head before finally asking the first question that popped into her head, "What do you think of the new DADA teacher?" Emily looked back up at Chase as she spoke, hoping the blush in her cheeks had somewhat faded.

Sh*t! Did he really just say that out loud? He’d seen the flush of color on her face before she changed the conversation and asked him about the new DADA teacher. Damn it why couldn’t he keep his mouth shut and control what he was saying? ”He’s alright I guess…” Chase shrugged, not really wanted to talk about it and not convinced she did either. Damn he needed to fix this situation before she ran off on him again. He had the feeling that there wouldn’t be a time number 3. Concentrating briefly, he tried to reconnect himself with the spell that had started the music. It took a few seconds before he managed it, but once he did he upped the tempo a little to something with a little more beat and jive. Acting like nothing had happened he spun her around, catching her off guard. Laughing, he began to dance them a little faster acting more like his usual self. He even accidentally-on purposely skimmed his hands a little too low as they trailed down her back. Inside, he was cringing. He was well and truly making a mess of this situation.

Emily simply smiled at Chase's response to her question about their new teacher. To be honest she hadn't been sure what she'd expected him to say, she'd simply been trying to make conversation to cover the awkwardness she'd suddenly felt. She couldn't really claim to know Chase or how he was normally, it'd been nice to see that side of him if she was honest and if she was honest with herself she hoped she'd someday get to see a lot more of him, he seemed like a great guy, one she actually really wanted to get to know a bit more.
Chase silently changed the tempo of the music and before she could react, he'd spun her out away from him. Laughing she latched her hand tightly to his so as not to lose her balance, the surprise catching her off guard in a somewhat pleasant way. As he pulled her in once more his hand skimmed down her back, touching a little lower than was politely allowed. Emily arched an eyebrow and grabbed his hand so she now held them both, "Don't be getting ahead of yourself there sweetie." she laughed, her hand gently patting his chest as she moved out from him, still holding his hands.
It was strange how comfortable she felt goofing around like this with Chase. Most guys wouldn't be able to get away with as much as he did, but for some reason Emily found she didn't mind so much. Feeling herself loosening up a little, she began to move in time to the music, feeling herself smile for the first proper time since the attack as she twirled herself underneath his arm, her blonde curls bouncing over her shoulders, "That the best you got...?" she asked, teasingly about his moves, shooting him a playful smile.

Thank god! Chase silently thanked whatever fate it was that let the awkward moment pass from memory as the beat kicked up and she twirled away from him, holding onto his hand tighter. She laughed and told him not to get ahead of himself as he let his hands travel lower than he should have. As she had done before, she touched his chest and he could feel the soft warmth of her hands through his thin shirt. He grinned back at her. As they danced he could see her relax and really get into the moment, the smile on her face showing how much fun she was having. He was glad that he’d been the one to make her smile that way and he intended to keep it on her face a little longer. She twirled herself under his arm and teased him, asking if it was the best he had. ”You wish it was, babe.” He said with a grin, seconds before he grabbed her around the waist, spinning her around and around, laughing the whole time. As soon as he stopped to let her feet touch the floor he spun her around, one hand going to her waist to stop her from falling with the sudden change. At that moment the song drew to an end and, automatically, he dipped her low over one arm, stopping with his face just mere inches from hers, close enough to feel her warm breath on his cheek. He went no closer and instead grinned down at her. ”Still doubt me?”

Emily found the babe comment didn't even bother her at the moment so didn't respond when Chase called her it. Instead she returned his grin before letting out a small surprise gasp when Chase grabbed her around the waist and spun them around. Quicker than it happened she was back on her feet and being spun around again, all the while laughing as was Chase, it was a definite welcome change to how she'd been feeling lately, for a moment that darkness that had consumed her had slipped away.
Sooner than she would have liked though, the song itself drew to an end and before she could even mourn it's ending, Emily found herself dipped back low, over Chase's arm, a move she really hadn't expected from him. One of her hands automatically wrapped around his arm, whilst the other found it's place against his chest, fisting the material between her fingers on instinct. Yet before her initial shock could pass and she could berate Chase for pulling that surprise move on her, Emily felt her heart beat quicken when she realised how close his face was to hers.
”Still doubt me?”
She couldn't stop the smile that formed over her lips at his words and she met his gaze straight on. "Not as much no but I do believe you could still do better..." she said, arching her eyebrow and struggling not to smile. Biting down on her lip, Emily decided to take a risk. If the attack itself had taught her anything it was that life was too short to fool around. So with that in mind, before she could think on it too much, Emily tugged herself up into an upright position so she was stood in front of Chase. Grabbing his shoulders she leaned up on to her tiptoes and pressed her lips against his...

Chase loved seeing her smile. The bright spark he had seen in her eyes the last time they’d been up there in the Tower had been unsurprisingly absent as of late, but at that moment, with her lying dipped back over his arm, the spark was back. He couldn’t look away from her eyes. That was until she bit her lip and pulled herself upright. That one little actions was sexier that she could ever imagine and he fought to bite back the groan that wanted to escape him. He didn’t have long to worry because she grabbed his shoulders and leant up, pressing her lips against his. For a second Chase did nothing as a million sparks of electricity flew wild within him. If there was one thing he really hadn’t been expecting, it was for Emily to kiss him! Sure he might have tried to kiss her again, but this was not what he was expecting. He certainly wasn’t going to complain either! One arm wrapped around her waist and pulled her close to him while the other threaded gently through her hair and around to the back of her head, keeping her close and deepening the kiss that they shared. He tilted his head to the side, giving him better access to her mouth before letting his tongue dart out across her lower lip, then pulling it into his mouth gently and nibbling in softly with his teeth. As he released her lip he pulled back a fraction of an inch to steal a gasp of air and he couldn’t hold back a groan as he realized exactly what he was doing – kissing Emily with her body pressed flush against him, warm in his arms. ”Emily…” He closed the distance again, not quite willing to let her go and end the moment quite yet.

Emily felt every nerve ending in her body explode as soon as her lips met Chase's. As he pulled her closer to him, his hand going in her hair, she let her hand move over his chest to wrap tightly around his shoulders, pulling her body all that more closer to his. Needing the leverage as her legs threatened to buckle under the tirade of things she was feeling in that one moment. Emily would be the first to admit her surprise at what was happening now but she couldn't hel but sink into the moment.
"Emily..."
As Chase breathed out her name, Emily smiled against his lips, returning the kiss as he moved in once more. What happened after this she had no idea, but right now she couldn't find it in her to care or even begin worrying. What happened, happened. If it was just going to be one of those things that happened and then was never spoken about again, she could live with that. It'd be disappointing sure, but she was young, this was only high school, and Chase, well he was something of a ladies man, it was hard to imagine him sticking to one girl, but if that turned out to be the case she'd deal with it somehow.
Regretfully the need for air became too much to ignore and Emily pulled back, her hold on his shoulders loosening a fraction as she struggled to catch her breath, looking up at him, that familiar spark that had been missing back in her eyes. "That was...erm...a lot better...forget what I said about doubting you," she said, laughing ever so lightly as she bit down on her lip. Her hands slid down to rest on his chest as she lowered herself from her tiptoes, for some reason a little bit reluctant to put too much distance between them.
