James looked to the two marauders on either side of him and grinned. "Ready boys?" They were currently crouched down behind a statue in the entrance hall, awaiting the appearance of a certain Slytherin as he made his way to dinner. The three of them had a nifty little trick up their sleeves that they wanted to try out, and tonight, they'd agreed, was the night to put their plan into action.
Peter was elsewhere, creating a diversion. Or at least, that's what he was supposed to be doing. The last thing they needed was a Professor to walk down the stairs mid prank. This was something that they'd planned to perfection and they weren't going to let it go wrong now. "Where is he? Someone check the map."

Once again, Remus was part of something that he couldn't control. Crouched behind that statue with James and Sirius, he felt like he'd failed Dumbledore yet again by being unable to keep his mischievous friends out of trouble. James asked if they were ready, and Remus thought, No! No, I'm not ready! I'm a Prefect for Merlin's sake! What he said was much different though. "James, we really shouldn't be doing this." Typical Remus, only giving a sentence or two against his friends, not wanting them to cast him out. The werewolf couldn't help but feel bad for Severus Snape, who was the Slytherin they were waiting for to spring the prank. The poor guy was always being picked on, especially by James and Sirius. In his own defense, Remus thought, But what could I do to stop them? They do what they want anyway. Nothing I say will make any difference, and I don't want to end up like Severus. It was a borderline selfish thought but it was the truth.
It was a bit late for dinner, and Remus hoped that perhaps Severus was too busy studying and had forgotten to eat dinner. He looked down at the map and his stomach knotted. A black dot labeled Severus Snape was coming down the corridor, approaching the main staircase. There was no turning back now. "He's here," Remus whispered, nudging James' arm.

Severus had been studying in the library since half past three. It was only October but he wasn't keen on getting behind on his homework. He hadn't been alone until at least quarter to five, and the sudden departure of the other students startled him out of his work. Dinner, it's dinner. Time to pack up and get a bite to eat before practicing for Transfiguration. He had many books with him so it took him quite a while to pack his things back into his bag - something he chose to do without magic for reasons only known to himself.
As he strode out of the library and down the staircase, he planned where he would sit today. Of course, he'd be down toward the Death Eaters end of the Slytherin banquet table. Yaxley never minded his company, so he was always the first Severus thought of. Or he'd sit at the end of the table with his head down. Eating was more important than socializing. Something else that bothered him... he'd probably see Lily. Well, there was a very good chance that he would see her but she never responded to him, or even looked his way. It was like he was dead to her and he'd give anything to change that.
He was so wrapped up in these thoughts that he never noticed the three boys hiding behind the statue in the Entrance Hall. He began walking down the stairs, checking to make sure that his bag was clasped tightly so as not to lose anything.
