"Silence!" She snapped at the first sign of a student talking as they entered the Great Hall. She could remember back to her own days when she'd been at this school - back to when talking as you entered an exam had earned you a good, hard whip with the cane.
She wouldn't stand for any of that nonsense today. These students were going to abide by every rule, and when she read out the list of exam rules and conditions she wouldn't leave out a single thing, even if it took half an hour and bored these students half to death. These were their NEWT's and the couldn't afford to be messing on and chattering. They ought to be recalling the 50 ways to... to do something or other! Talking was simply out of the question.
She waited until every student was settled into his or her seat before she began the long and tedious job that she loved so much, of reading out the long, ministry approved list of exam rules. They would be having their theory exam first, and when that was over, she'd read out the new list of rules for their practical, and she'd ensure they each sat in silence until it was their turn to be called into the chamber out of the back of the room, and only once every single student had completed their full examination would she let them go.
Nothing, repeat nothing, was going to mess with her plans today.
"Now, you have exactly two hours to complete your paper. When the hourglass reaches empty you will hear a loud chime. If you do not put your quill down and cease writing when that bell chimes, you may be disqualified." She took a long, hard look at all of their faces. "Now, you may proceed." With a flick of her wand, the large hour glass over turned and the sand began to fall, marking the beginning of the test for Hogwart's current 7th years.
