That winking Russian right up there ^ is Roman Ivanov. Roman to his friends. That commie twit to his friends and that Russian guy to almost everyone else. He's been at Hogwarts a year but that's long enough for people to know that getting on Roman Ivanov's bad side is something that's both incredibly difficult and incredibly bad for your health.
He's spent his entire life running from the authorities this has given him a rather dark and depressed look on the effect that having power can have on people. Consequently he has no respect or even belief in authority having any sort of good behind it and believes that any sort of power corrupts people. It's why he never applies for anything and why he never listens to teachers and why he never turns up for class.
He especially doesn't sit through Defence against the Dark Arts. He thinks it's a farcical lesson and give's pupils the idea that the dark arts are somehow fun or exciting. He's seen everything that the students read in their text-books from a very early age and even his teacher has to admit he's rather brilliant at defending himself from almost any magical attack.
Friends
Though quiet and prone to speaking heavily accented English that is almost impossible to decipher. Roman is quite a friendly, caring and charismatic guy who no doubt would've made as many friends as he possibly could make he smokes a lot and is known to drink vodka like it's water so anybody who likes a good-time or having a good time in general is probably going to get on well with him.
Enemies
He hates bullies and people who have no respect for one another. He'll stand upto anyone he sees picking on other students for no reason, even his own house-mates. He also doesn't take kindly to people making fun of his accent or where he came from. Furthermore 'In Soviet Russia' Jokes are only to be made by Roman
Lovers
I can't imagine that a girl would really want to go out with Roman, he's foreign, Russian, hate's going to class, drinks a lot and is rather paranoid that he's going to be stolen away in the night by Soviet Secret service. A girl who falls in love with Roman would love his quirks and his problems and love all of them just as much as they love his smile
