IT'S HARD FOR ME TO SAY but I think you've taken my heart away
Today was one of them days Millie wasn't really in the mood for going out into the halls, conversing with her peers. All she wanted was to spend the day in her room, if that meant she was alone so be it, she didn't mind, it simply meant she didn't have to put on the façade that she was okay, that there were no secrets she was hiding away from those she cared about.
In reality today was one of those days she just wanted to shut the rest of the world out for a while. It was draining wearing a certain mask all day, hiding your true self for fear of what your friends, or worse what your family would say or how they'd react to the news their one and only daughter, the future wife of God knows who was in fact, not only into guys but into girls aswell. It wasn't a topic easily brought up in a letter...and they wouldn't understand anyway.
Sighing quietly to herself, Millie folded her clothes up neatly, having decided to clean out her drawers, and colour co-ordinate all of her clothes. It was a pointless task but it kept her busy since she'd already completed this weeks homework. She was dressed in her usual jeans and long sleeved t-shirt, topped off with a hooded sweatshirt. It was clear she preferred to hid certain aspect of her body, no one knew though it was her arms she was keeping concealed from the rest of the world.
"They'd freak if they knew." she thought to herself, even Tay. Speaking of her best-friend, Millie began to wonder where she was, though realised quickly her friend was probably buried in the library once again. Chuckling to herself, Millie shook her head as she picked up the first pile of blue t-shirts and carried them to her drawers. Behind her she heard the door open and with a smile didn't even need to look around to know who it was, "Manage to dig your way out of the library I see...." she teased.

and i don’t ever wanna know what it feels like to be a shadow of myself AND I DON'T EVER WANNA COME BACK DOWN FROM THIS FEELING There were times that Tay wished that she didn't get quite so lost inside her own little world, and that she could actually focus on real life without losing herself inside some funny little dream world of her own. This time, she'd done her usual trick of staring out of a window for about an hour watching the clouds. It was something she found herself doing a little too often for her liking. It really didn't help her get her work done. Or help her find Millie like she'd been planning to do over an hour earlier...
Shaking her self away from the window she finally got around the climbing the rest of the stairs up to her tower. If it wasn't for that one little window ledge halfway up the stairs between fifth and sixth, then she wouldn't get distracted walking up, but it was just so perfectly placed.
Muttering the password she slipped into the common room and looked around. No Millie here. Tay wasn't really surprised. Neither of them spent much time in the main part of the common room unless they were together. There was a handful of students milling around and most of them were either reading or talking quietly over a bundle of parchment. A typical afternoon in the Ravenclaw tower. Work, work, work.
And that was something that Tay probably should be doing too.
No one looked up at her as she made her way over to the stairs at the back of the room, though she probably wouldn't have noticed even if they did. Her mind was a bit caught up on earlier that day when she'd been sitting alone at lunch. Her eyes had been drawn to the Hufflepuff table and they'd caught on two people, and one in particular. Her friend Trent, and his friend. Most definitely on his friend.
As Tay pushed open the door to her dorm Millie's voice drifted out towards her and she smiled. "No library for me today. I had some clouds to stalk." Millie knew just how bad she could be for getting distracted staring at clouds.
Her eyes settled on the piles of clothes on her friends bed and she raised an eyebrow and gave the piles a funny look, absentmindedly pushing the door closed behind her. Were they color coded? "What's this? Your new OCD?" She threw Millie a cheeky grin before heading over to her own bed which was next to Millie's and throwing herself down on it. Even now she was still trying to push the images from earlier out of her head. It was just a silly crush.

IT'S HARD FOR ME TO SAY but I think you've taken my heart away
Millie glanced over her shoulder to look at Tay and chuckled, "What again? Seriously Frazi what are we going to do with you...? Maybe there's some kind of 12 step programme we could get you into..." she joked, sticking her tongue out at her friend before laughing softly and turning back around to her bed, where she picked up the stack of yellow tops and placed them in her drawers.
There'd been many times over the years when Tay had simply ended up in her own little world in the middle of a conversation, staring absently at the clouds in the sky. Sometimes it even took a swift push to pull her friend back to the present, but then that push would usually cause her uncoordinated friend to go tumbling to the ground, so Millie tried not to do it too much due to how many bruises Tay would earn herself.
At Tay's question, Millie narrowed her eyes and threw a small pillow at her friend as she went and sat on her own bed, hitting her squarely in the head. "I do not have OCD missy...it's called being organized...and a little bored..." she said, laughing lightly at the end as she finished putting her things away. Tugging down her sleeves over her hands she went and jumped onto her own bed, crossing her legs and turning to face Tay.
"So what's your reason for cloud watching today...usually indicates that there's something, or perhaps someone on your mind...so spill Frazi" she said, plucking a grey plush elephant from her pillow, one of the few cuddly toys she owned. Placing it on her lap she focused on Tay, waiting for her friend to talk, she had seemed awfully distracted lately...

and i don’t ever wanna know what it feels like to be a shadow of myself AND I DON'T EVER WANNA COME BACK DOWN FROM THIS FEELING Tay smiled at Millie's use of her old nickname. Out of everyone, Millie was perhaps the only person who could get away with calling her Frazi. She's used that nickname coming into her first year but as the years moved by, she began to feel like she'd outgrown it, and made everyone call her Tay. Everyone except Millie; her best friend always be the exception to any rule.
She stuck her tongue out in return. "I don't need a programme, I just need a reality check."[/c]
"Organized?" Tay had to laugh at her somewhat crazy friend. "Organized usually means tops in one drawer, bottoms in the other. Organized doesn't mean primary in the top, other colors in the bottom, blacks and whites inbetween. That's called obsessive. I supposed you've organised your underwear too. By color, or by appeal factor?" Tay's laugh turned into an all out grin. She loved winding Millie up.
"So what's your reason for cloud watching today...usually indicates that there's something, or perhaps someone on your mind...so spill Frazi"
Tay sighed somewhat dreamily and looked across at the stuffed animals on her own pillow and grabbed one. Why was it that whenever they talked on their beds like this they almost always had a cuddly in hand?
Millie knew her too well. But she was right, there was someone on her mind. An older, Hufflepuff someone. While she wasn't sure of his name, she sure could picture him clearly in her mind when she closed her eyes - see that grin... the cheeky wink... the sweeping hair...
Shaking her head she pushed the thoughts aside again and glanced briefly at Millie before looking down again and fiddling with the paw of the someone dopey looking stuffed dog. You know Trent? The one I sometimes work with in the library?" She'd pointed him out to Millie before so Tay was pretty sure she knew who she was talking about. "Well... I don't know. It's one of his friends he hangs around the castle with... I can't help but think he's kinda cute." Color heated her cheeks again as she said the words outloud for the first time. Saying them made them feel more real and she wasn't sure she liked it. It was a stupid school girl crush! That was all. Sadly.

IT'S HARD FOR ME TO SAY but I think you've taken my heart away
Millie narrowed her eyes at Tay playfully, looking at her drawers momentarily before turning back to her friend, fighting back a small smile as she shrugged her shoulders, "By both appeal and colour...kept me busy for a full hour I'll have you know," she laughed lightly shaking her head. It was scary how well Tay seemed to know her, "It may be obsessive yes, but at least I now know where everything is..." she said with another shrug of her shoulders.
Tay's expression became somewhat dreamy and Millie narrowed her eyes slightly at her friend, a smile on her face. She would know that look anywhere. It sure as hell hadn't been on her own face but this wasn't the first time she'd seen Tay look like this, and now she was finally figuring out the reason for it or to be more precise find out who was behind it.
She watched the other girl closely, smiling softly as she did, "I know Trent yes... she nodded her head, her smile widening as it clicked into place who Tay was talking about. She didn't know him personally but she knew Lachlan Parker, Chase Connors and Trent, they were a well known group around the school. Well to be honest it was thanks to the other girls around the school Millie even knew who Lachlan Parker and Chase was...she obviously knew Trent through the girl in front of her, "I think I know who your talking about...guys pretty hot Tay not just cute...you should try and talk to him he's a nice guy...plus your hot, he'd be crazy not to wanna get to know you." she smiled, winking at Tay. Of course Millie knew him to be a bit of a player...wasn't there some kind of rumour going around about him already dating someone? She didn't really pay attention to rumors so didn't think on it too much, if Tay really liked Chase Connors, Millie was all for getting her friend to go for it.
Being best friends meant you got away with saying a lot of things, and that was one of them. Things would surely change if Tay ever found out Millie's secret, but she loved the other girl like a sister so simply hoped it wouldn't change things too much. justify]

and i don’t ever wanna know what it feels like to be a shadow of myself AND I DON'T EVER WANNA COME BACK DOWN FROM THIS FEELING "And by 'kept you busy for an hour' you mean you took full advantage of having the room to yourself and help a one girl fashion show and rated each choice on a scale of 1 to 10." Tay shook her head and laughed. She'd come to expect these crazy little things from Millie. She came up to the strangest solutions to boredom sometimes...
"Sure, till the next time you get your laundry back and throw it in the first free space to get it out of your way." Which was probably true...
Fiddling mindlessly with the floppy ear of the dog Tay's mind went on a big time back-in-five walk about, and she let it. She'd noticed him ages ago - end of last year probably, but she'd only really noticed him since starting back at school this year. Was that because she was older, or because he was older? She didn't know. But if one thing was pretty sure, she hadn't been wasting opportunities to take a peek at him whenever she's seen him.
"I think I know who your talking about...guys pretty hot Tay not just cute...you should try and talk to him he's a nice guy...plus your hot, he'd be crazy not to wanna get to know you."
She looked at her friend and her smile grew. "You're right, cute doesn't quite cover it. There's a definite element of hotness there too." She'd still say cute summed him up in a word, but that didn't seem to be a very... appreciated word among guys. Which she could understand, but seeing as she was never going to speak to the guy and he was never going to find out what she thought, then there was no problems with her thinking he was cute.
And there was just the problem with the rest of Millies sentence. She couldn't just go up to him and talk to him! "No matter how nice he might be, some random 4th year trying to talk to him in a corridor probably isn't going to be high on his list of things to do. I think I'll pass. And plus, I'm not hot. I'm me. Look at me. I day dream to clouds, I fall over all the time - I'm never without bruises!" Tay sighed and laughed, rolling her eyes. "Please, M. If it was you, yeah, he'd probably want to get to know you. I'm nothing special. Come on! I wear over-sized band tees and beenie hats..."

IT'S HARD FOR ME TO SAY but I think you've taken my heart away
Millie shook her head at Tay and rolled her eyes at the same time. "Okay first off your not just some random fourth year, your friends with one of his close friends, so of course he'll want to talk to you and once he does he'll realize just how fantastic you are..."
she pointed out with a soft smile. This wasn't her simply trying to bring up her friends confidence, she was telling the truth. Tay was beautiful, she funny, smart and as Millie knew only too well, she had fantastic taste in music, it was after all what had brought both of them together. "Second you are special Frazi, you gotta start owning that. Tripping over your own feet, losing yourself in clouds, it's all part of what makes Abigail Frazier as brilliant as she is." she said with a smile, tugging down the sleeves of her shirt again. There was no way on this earth Chase Connors would look at her twice, she wasn't his twice plus if he knew half of the secrets she kept, he'd start running just like everyone else. Sliding off her own bed, Millie went to sit opposite Tay on her friends bed. Crossing her legs, she plopped her cuddly toy on her lap and looked at Tay, "You should go for it...talk to Trent, he could introduce you both." she said with a shrug of her shoulders, Chase Connors would be crazy if he didn't want to get to know her friend.[/blockquote][/blockquote] x - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - x

and i don’t ever wanna know what it feels like to be a shadow of myself AND I DON'T EVER WANNA COME BACK DOWN FROM THIS FEELING What? Now that was news to her. Since when was Millie friends with him? "Closest friends?" So here was Tay not even knowing his name while Millie was off playing the best friend with him? Well... it kind of made sense that Millie would know him, actually. Tay knew that Millie was friends with the other guy that Trent was friends with and that they talked sometimes - she even thought that Millie might have just a little bit of a crush on that guy. What was his name? Chase? Well, Tay didn't really see the appeal. Sure he was good looking but he wasn't really her type. The other friend though? Now that was a different story.
Her attention went back to Millie as she kept talking, and she was pretty sure that her friend hadn't even heard her question. But then, Tay didn't really want to know. If he knew Millie, then he definitely wouldn't look twice at her, so what was the point.
"Second you are special Frazi, you gotta start owning that. Tripping over your own feet, losing yourself in clouds, it's all part of what makes Abigail Frazier as brilliant as she is."
Tay shot a glare in Millie's direction. Urg! She really hated that name - hated anyone calling her it. Abigail really didn't suit her at all - never had. Any one who dared call her by that name would receive a deadly stare. Any any professor who called her by it? They definitely weren't high on her like list either.
"Millie..."She warned. "First of all, you know better that to ever mention that name. And secondly, the only kind of special those things make me is the stupid kind."
She shook her head and looked the other way. She needed to stop putting herself down like that, but she couldn't help it. She liked who she was, she just knew that when there was a choice of her or her best friend, her best friend would get the guy every time. Millie was part veela. She was born to be beautiful. She didn't need make-up or effort to catch guy's attention, she just needed to be herself and if she wanted, they'd be at her feet.
And thinking things like that only made her come across as jealous, which she wasn't. She wouldn't like that amount of attention. She saw the way that guys stared at Millie whenever she was around and it was slightly disturbing just being the friend next to her, she couldn't even imagine being the one who was the focus of those stares... No, Tay was happy being 'just Tay'.
She looked back at her friend as she came and sat on her bed and told her that she should try and talk to him and even to ask Trent to introduce them, and she just laughed and shook her head, looking down at the dog that flopped in her hands. "No Mills. Just leave it. I don't know anything about him aside from the fact I think he's good looking and he's friends with Trent. I'm not making a fool of myself by asking to talk to his friend who's name I don't even know... Can we talk about something else now? Like... Who do you like right now?" It was a conversation that Millie usually seemed to avoid, but Tay tended to ask anyway. At least it would turn to focus off her... hopefully.

IT'S HARD FOR ME TO SAY but I think you've taken my heart away
Millie chuckled as Tay shot her a glare after she used the friends first name. Usually she only did it to wind her up and alas it always seemed to work. When Tay began to talk again Millie rolled her eyes, waving off her friends warning and then shaking her head and shooting Tay an exasparated look, frowning when her friend shook her own head and looked away from her, "I'm tired of you putting yourself down like that Tay. I mean your beautiful, funny, an amazing person I don't understand why you don't believe thats enough to make you special.." she sighed, tugging at her sleeves as she hopped off th ebed.
Millie only wished she was like Tay, her best friend was incredible, Millie was just confused as to why she couldn't see that. If Chase wasn't interested in pursuing anything with her, should Tay finally pluck up enough courage to talk to him then he was insane, but Millie knew there were plenty of other guys out there who would love a chance of getting to know Tay. Tay was just a little too blind to notice some of the attention she got around the school.
"No Mills. Just leave it. I don't know anything about him aside from the fact I think he's good looking and he's friends with Trent. I'm not making a fool of myself by asking to talk to his friend who's name I don't even know... Can we talk about something else now? Like... Who do you like right now?"
Rolling her eyes Millie let out a frustrated sound as she turned back around to Tay, shooting her friend a glare followed by the smallest of smiles so she knew this was all meant in the best way possible. "This isn't the end of the conversation girlie, just talk to him you wouldn't be making a fool of yourself...I think you'd be surprised..." she said with a smile, that slightly faltered when she listened to the rest of the question. Shrugging her shoulders lightly she sat on the edge of her own bed, placing the cuddly toy she still held back onto her pillow, "There's no one I like...not right now anyhow" she admitted honestly, looking at Tay with a small smile.

and i don’t ever wanna know what it feels like to be a shadow of myself AND I DON'T EVER WANNA COME BACK DOWN FROM THIS FEELING Tay didn't miss the chuckle that came with her glare. But then, Millie saw enough of what she'd dubbed her 'name-glare' to not be fazed by it anymore. She was probably the only person who could get away with saying Tay's name and not ending up getting the silent treatment.
"I'm tired of you putting yourself down like that Tay. I mean your beautiful, funny, an amazing person I don't understand why you don't believe thats enough to make you special.."
Tay sighed and looked away, not responding. They'd had this argument a ton of times and it always ended up in the same way. Right now, Tay didn't really want to play out the end of it again for the thousandth time.
As expected, Millie sounded a little frustrated at Tay's sudden topic change. A sound that was followed by a glare to match.
"This isn't the end of the conversation girlie, just talk to him you wouldn't be making a fool of yourself...I think you'd be surprised..."
Tay rolled her eyes and muttered a quiet, "Yeah, right." under her breath. She made sure it was quiet enough that Millie shouldn't be able to hear it. She really didn't want to have anymore of this conversation. Tay's mind was pretty set. She wasn't about to start talking to him over some silly little one-sided crush. No way. End of story.
Even from where she sat Tay couldn't miss the way Millie's smile faltered when the focus turned to her own fancies. She watched as her friend sat back down on her own bed, keeping her focus on the cuddly toy in her hand rather than on the conversation for as long as she could. Eventually Millie responded and sent a small smile in her direction. Tay frowned. "No one at all? Surely there's someone that catches your eye. Every time I as you you have the same answer..."
Millie could be a complete girly-girl, but when it came to boys and crushes? She seemed to clam up and not want to talk about it. A thought struck her. "Mil, if it's like... a Slytherin or something you can say. I mean, I'm not about to judge you, you know that..." It was a complete stab in the dark, and Tay was just waiting for Millie to deny that possibility too, and repeat her previous 'nobody' comment. But, Tay had to ask.
Tay put her stuffed dog down on the bed beside her before jumping up and clambering off, stumbling slightly as she somehow managed to fail at standing on her own two feet.
She closed the few steps between her own bed and Millie's and grinned at her friend before flopping down next to her on the bed. "Okay then... new topic..."
Millie was still sitting on the edge of her bed so Tay reached over and poked a finger in her side, sticking her tongue out at her friend. If they were going to change the topic it needed to be one that was completely off the subject of boys and crushes. Neither of them particularly wanted to talk about that sort of thing anymore, or at least not their own.
"Did you see that new dress that Mafalda got in the post the other day? You of all people should know I'm not really one to judge, but oh god it was awful!" There had only been Tay and Mafalda in the room at them time it arrived, the owl bringing it directly to their dorm room window rather than at breakfast, but that was probably a good thing.
The dress had been the most horrendous salmon color and it honestly looked like one of those weird, poofy, paper christmas decorations that usually hung from the ceiling by string and ripped as soon as you touched them. It also had the the stranges sequin pattern over the chest. Since Tay spent a lot of time picked pictures out of the clouds, she tended to find them every where, which is why at first glance at the sequins she'd been convinced there was a purple elephant and some hopping frogs, but it was definitely just her imagination. At any cost, the dress had looked absolutely awful! It was something you would never ever see Tay willingly wearing.
If anything was going to get Millie talking again, it was the topic of a fashion fail.
