Maddison was not normally one for being disrespectful to her elders, but on this one occasion she could have been forgiven. No matter how hard she tried, she could not get her head around Herbology and the Professor knew this The dark haired witch hated the lesson. She was not stupid, she could see that recognising herbs was an important thing to know as a witch, especially if one did not want to poison oneself. But she could not tell the difference between dittany and mandrake or any other plant really. They all looked the same to her and it did not help that this lesson was so boring to her. Her eyes looked across the field and she could just see the tops of the hoops. Her blue eyes taking in every detail that she already remembered by heart. The Slytherin Beater wished she was out on that Pitch right now. Soaring amongst the clouds, bat in hand ready to whack some heavy bludger towards some unsuspecting player.
"MADDISON!"
Her head turned from the Pitch towards the Professor. Panic showing on her face. The Quidditch freak had her eyes on the Pitch way too long and she was badly caught out this time.
"Do you think that your grades are so high that you do not need to pay attention in class? Let me tell you one MacKenzie, you need to start listening or you will fail your O.W.L'S this year! After this leso to the Library and serve a two hour detention. I want you to research and study plants and herbs from your text book. I want to see at least a foot of parchment in notes, completed by the end of the Detention."
Maddi's eyes shone with tears, not tears of pity but tears of anger. Ok she did not pay attention this time, but surely the Professor should have helped her more instead of belittling her in front of the whole class?! The Fifth year student was so tempted to pull her wand out and show the snotty Professor how good she was at Transfiguration. Maddison pictured the bossy idiot running around the floor, squeaking. A long tail following her and the rest of the class laughing at the panicked Rat scarpering manically around the classroom floor.
At the end of the lesson, Maddison stormed out and made her way to the Library. It was not so lucky for her that it was the end of the school day, it was bad luck however that this dete she would only be getting leftovers for dinner. Kicking the door as she walked past it, she entered the Library cussing the Professor loudly. A loud hushing sound came from behind a stack of books and Maddi ignored it and threw her satche onto the closble. Pulling her parchment, quill, ink and text book out, she set to the long and arduous task that was ahead of her.

Leander sat at her usual table in back corner of the library, and, from there, she usually heard very little of whatever noise was made elsewhere. It was like being lost in her own little world.
This afternoon though, her own little world was a rather distracted one.
She had a ton of Transfiguration work that she should have been doing but she just couldn't bring herself to focus on it. There were too many things racing through her mind to concentrate. Her eyes caught on the book cases around her. In all the years that she'd been here, and over all the years that she'd hidden herself away at that little table, she'd never once looked to see what the books there were actually about.
Curiosity finally got the better of her. And besides, it was a distraction from the work that she should be doing. Pushing her books to one side she stood and wandered around, eyes skimming over the titles on the shelves that blocked in her small world. She had no idea how long she'd been browsing titles for but it had been long enough for her to get a crick in her neck from having to tilt her side to the side to read the names on the spines. Herbology books? After all this time that she'd sitting here over the years and she'd never once paid attention to the fact that she was surrounded by Herbology books. Well, they were sure to be helpful now that she'd seen them. Herbology was her second favorite subject - after Care of Magical Creatures of course.
A loud noise made her spin around. Sounded like someone was in a bit of a huff... For a place that was supposed to be silent, it had the most noisy door of any room in the entire castle. Aside from the Hospital Wing perhaps... That squeaked at the worst moments... but the library one always seemed to slam. It sounded like it had a bit of help with its slamming today though...
Leander rubbed her neck. It was probably someone reluctant to do project work... or had too much work and too little time... they were the usual ones to come in in a grump...
Shaking her head she returned to the small table and settled down. She really needed to get some of this transfiguration done... But maybe she could just do her History of Magic essay first...?

Her mood was a bad one, but something made it even worse. She realised that she had picked the wrong tex bok up by mistake. This one was about Different cauldrons, sizes and materials. Clutching her head in her hands, she pulled her hair a little bit. A habit she had that helped her to contain her anger. Getting up and scraping her chair noisily she walked around the Library looking for the right section. Due to her not coming to the library that often, she had to search for the Herbs section.
Gritting her teeth, she cursed silently as she walked around. She was losing writing time and every inch counted when you had detention. The Herbology teacher actually had a long wooden ruler that she made a point of using to measure your parchment in front of you whilst looking at you in the worse possible manner. A frown can be a very bad thing. Disapproval was just as bad if not worse and Maddi hated anyone disapproving of her. Right now she had no choice, she sighed loudly and was fixed with numerous frown and angry stars back. Wow some people really take this Library thing seriously. she thought to herself, her blue eyes scanning the shelves. She would take a broom over books an day and not one that you sweep with either!
Her mind wandered away from Herbology and back to the Quidditch pitch, playing with her team mates, little Reg and Granton. She could not help but admire him, he was her Captain, he was quiet and mysterious and just plain hot. She just wished he would notice her a little more, rather than the astute nod when the bludger hit it's target in practice. A cough from another student broguht her out of her daydream and snarling a little she kept looking for the right section.
The fifth year student, found a section on herbs and it uses, territorial climates and she knew she was on the write track. Ironically it was at the very back of the huge library in a small and narrow corner. Walking into a shaded corner, she missed a book that was lying on the floor and tripped over it. Swearing quietly she picked herself and the book up and placed it back in it's rightful place. It was then she spotted a blond girl sitting at a table. She smiled a little as she recognised her, Leander was her study buddy, she wondered if she knew anything about Herbology, this girl could well save her. "Hey Leander...er hi. Sorry about the noise, I just er...anyway are you busy?" she asked noticing that the Gryffindor was about to start some work of her own on a lamplit table.

Footsteps headed her direction but she never thought much about it. People hardly even came back here. They never seemed to have need to. Which was slightly surprising seeing as the books were for a popular subject. But then, she took Herbology too and she couldn't remember a time when she'd needed to use another book other than her textbook either...
It seemed she was wrong and whoever it was, was heading into her corner. She glanced up, quill still unconnected from her parchment but before she had a chance to see who it was the person tripped over something on the floor. Leander recognized the who the swearing voice belonged to. She should have known the minute she heard the door slam at the other end of the library that Maddi would be behind it. Leander couldn't think of anyone she knew who hated being in the library as much as Maddi did.
Why she didn't just do her homework and stuff in her common room or somewhere else, she didn't know. But maybe, since she was down here, she had something she needed to do today? A book? Herbology, perhaps? Well, that would make the most sense since they were in the herbology section.
As Maddi picked herself up off the floor Leander watched her. She didn't look too happy at all, and she had the feeling that there was more than just tripping over to blame for that. It didn't take long until Maddi noticed her sitting there and she raised a hand to wave at her.
Leander didn't call many people around the school her friends, but of the few she did, she would consider Maddi one. Which was strange considering that Leander was a Gryffindor, and Maddi was a Slytherin. Being honest, the first time they'd crossed paths in the library Leander had seriously considered running away from her the minute she saw her - not because she looked frightening or intimidating or anything like that, but Leander had come across a few Slytherins by that point and started to suspect the same attitude and opinions from them all.
She'd been surprised when Maddi had been so nice, and couldn't believe that she'd spent so long talking to her, but even as she was there was one thing that had been stuck on her mind. What would Maddi say if she found out she was a muggle born? Well, neither of them had outwardly said anything about her blood type, but there was a few things that she'd said that hinted at it, so she assumed that Maddi knew. The fact that the two still talked just showed how different Maddi was from a lot of the other Slytherins, and how you really shouldn't sterotype people.
"I'm busy not being busy." She smiled at Maddi as she headed in her direction. "I should be doing another Transfiguration essay, but I'm taking up any option that involved not doing it. Why?"
For someone who usually didn't talk to people, or talked quite shy and quiet, it was surprised sometimes that Leander felt she could talk so easily in front of Maddi.
(ooc:sorry it's a bit awful)
