Images of what had happened were seared into his mind and no matter what he did he couldn't escape them. He wanted nothing more than to forget everything from the moment he left the broom cupboard with Emily to now, and he wanted to go back and play it all over. If he did, he sure as hell wouldn't spike the punch with love potion again.
He'd even been spiked twice. Once by the potion on Dupree and then by his own. Who knew the love potion he used was that strong? he didn't even drink it really, did he? Lachie... he shuddered. Lachie kissed him and he tasted the remains of the punch that way...
Oh god... Lachie. How the hell was he supposed to be able to face him again? Like it wasn't bad enough that they kissed he had to go and take his best friends pants off, didn't he! Urgh! He really, really, couldn't face Lachie again. No amount of hoping was going to erase those memories... the memories of him and his guy best mate locking tongues, grinding bodies, and trying to go to the broom closet together.
A chill ran through him. He didn't even want to think about what he'd be doing now if the professors hadn't ended the potion... he had the feeling it might involve their dorm room and their costumes being abandoned... Chase cringed. Now that was a nightmare worthy thought - guy on guy definitely came with a few requirements he was NOT willing to try. Oh gods... Chase shook his head. His ass hurt just thinking about it. If he wasn't still sitting in a public place, he would cry. But, he didn't.
When he'd finally stopped rocking on the floor in horror and had eventually left the great hall, his mind had been caught up on two things. Lachie. And Emily.
Emily... Well if being caught in a broom cupboard with another girl wasn't enough, he'd certainly f*cked everything up now, hadn't he?
Where he sat, in the entrance hall, he put his head in his hands and sighed. Just when he thought things were really going to work out - after he'd spilled his guts out to her about how he felt... did she really think he'd been lying about all of that? Did she think he'd just said it to cover up for... Lachie? What was she thinking now? ... He was pretty sure she didn't know about the potion but... Urgh!
He groaned outloud and shook his head, which was still in his hands.
He'd spent the past few hours trying to ignore the stares and whisperes and sniggers from other students and although he knew he should leave, he really didn't know where to go. He didn't want to go back the the common room and risk bumping into Lachie right now, but if not to bed, then where? So, there he stayed.
He didn't really know how much time had passed he just knew that he felt completely numb. He'd messed up his friendship with Lachie, his relationship with Emily, and pretty much made himself the laughing stock of the school... it was too much. He just felt emotionlessly dead.
God damn it...

Elena laughed as she made her way through the courtyard, her steps slightly askew but somehow she still managed to walk upright and in a straight line WHILST admiring the stars above, somehow finding them beautiful thanks to the amount of fire whiskey in her system. She just left the Slytherin's own private after party being held in the forest, which was strange for her as she was usually the last...but despite popular opinion she knew her limits and when to stop, so instead of sitting around watching her peers get wasted and high she'd decided to head back to the castle, leaving a disgruntled Granton behind.
She found the smile on her face widen when she allowed her mind to drift back to the fun they'd had. That guy certainly knew how to please her...great thing about their relationship was there was no pressure. It was a purely friends with benefits kind of deal...great benefits at that. Elena had long since lost the wings off her costume, she'd tossed them down somewhere after they'd began to bug her some 3 hours into the ball.
Stepping into the entrance hall she was quite surprised to see a lone figure sat on the steps and upon closer inspection she found herself smiling again when she realised who it was. It was Chase Connors. Chuckling she began to walk towards him, her own flask in her hand, "Well, well, well, I thought you'd be tucked up in bed with Prescott by now...oh no wait, it's Parker now isn't it?" she asked, unable to stop the small chuckle that escaped as she sat down on a step beside him, but one up. "Gotta say I didn't think you were into guys...my gaydar's obviously faulty..." she joked, inclining her head down look at him.
It was only after taking a moment, she could see he wasn't looking too good. In fact this guy beside her looked completely different to the one she'd met in the broom cupboard. This one looked completely devastated, his head was buried in his hands and his shoulders were slumped. Damn. "Come on dude...things can't be that bad..." she said, shoving his shoulder gently before she pulled out a pack of cigarettes. It occurred to her they were still in the entrance hall and in full view of any teachers who were patrolling but she couldn't care less. Lighting one she inhaled, releasing a soft sigh before holding the packet out to Chase as an offering...

make believe your secrets find the graveYOU'RE SELLING ME OUT TO THE GIRL I CAN'T AFFORD TO LOSE Chase had no idea how long he'd been sitting there for but he saw sure that it had been long enough that a lot of people had already called it a night and headed back to their dorms to call it a night.
Thankfully, no one had tried to talk to him or disturb him. He should have known that the peace couldn't last.
"Well, well, well, I thought you'd be tucked up in bed with Prescott by now...oh no wait, it's Parker now isn't it?"
Now there was something that probably would never happen - being in bed with Emily again. Not that they'd even been in a bed together... he sighed as he thought back over the past week or so since their first date. Had it really only been a week? A couch, public showers, and a broom closet... he mentally smacked himself. Great going Chase, man. Way to catch a girl you want - bang her in a closet. Ever heard of a bed and candlelight?
If it was possible to glare at himself, he would have at that moment. But Elena spoke again before he could let his thoughts go much further. She was really not the person he wanted to talk to right now. And her mocking tone? It wasn't helping.
"Gotta say I didn't think you were into guys...my gaydar's obviously faulty..."
Chase was vaguely aware of her leaning to look at him but he paid no attention. Damn it the whole of the school the school probably thought he was gay now. And after what nearly happened earlier they had every right to think it, but... Chase groaned. Way to rub it in...
Emily shoved his shoulders as she sat down next to him. Things cant be that bad? She was there! Still, he said nothing, part of him hoping that if he just ignored her then she'd go away. She'd done nothing but make things worse tonight.
A familiar smell hit his nostrils and he glanced up. Cigarettes. He stared at the offered packet for several seconds before deciding 'what the hell' and slipping one out.
He wasn't a smoker and he had no intentions of becoming a smoker, but that wasn't to say he'd never done it before. He was something of a social smoker at the most. Once he got past the initial few drags and got used to it he usually quite enjoyed it. Still, not a long term habit he wanted.
Lighting up he took a long drag, and sighed, staring into the space ahead of him before muttering a gruff "Thanks"
Several minutes passed in silence before he glanced over to her, noticing she looked a little disheveled compared to earlier. His eyes went down to the flask that was on the step beside her and nodded to it. "Tell me that's alcoholic, and if so, share it."
Drinking alcohol from the hands of a Slytherin wasn't something he'd want to do in most circumstances, but tonight he was more than willing to make the exception. He needed something to more to make him forget everything that had happened. Heck, he'd settle for something that would let him walk into his dorm room without freaking out just so that he could get to bed...
Chase looked up at Elena and waited for her reply.

Elena found herself smirking at Chase as he let out a low groan after her comment, clearly what had happened was really getting to him. Rolling her eyes, she shook her head and looked away, wondering why some people were so stupid. Couldn't they just laugh things like this off, it wasn't exactly the end of the world...then again he was a Hufflepuff not a Slytherin..."That a boy..." she said when he took a smoke, offering a lighter she lit the end for him before sitting back, her eyes still resting on him.
"No problem...you look like you need it..." she chuckled, not adding that he looked like he needed a lot more than just a smoke. The silence didn't make her uncomfortable, in fact she was probably one of the only people around who enjoyed the silence as opposed to filling it with mindless words. Though after several long minutes ticked by Elena couldn't deny she felt his eyes on her so turned to meet his gaze, only to see Chase glance down to the flask sitting at her side.
"Usually I'd tell you were to get off but since I'm feeling generous and you look like crap...enjoy..." she said, handing him the flask, surprised that he even wanted it. He didn't look like someone who drank too much but then again, after what had happened tonight she imagined he had a lot of humiliation to drink away. She watched him for a moment before taking a long drag of her cigarette and leaning forward on her knees, "So since we're sharing...wanna tell me why your moping down here, all alone instead of heading back to your room?" she asked, genuinely curious.

Rather than say anything he just took the flask from her and traded the place of the cigarette for that of the alcohol. He took a few seconds just to enjoy the burning sensation in her throat as the liquid burnt its way down. At the very least it fought off some of the chills that had began to set in. With the front doors of the castle wide open, and as it was now technically November, his Robin costume wasn't exactly keeping him warm.
While the alcohol worked its magic, he switched back the cigarette, but he still kept a tight hold on the flask. It still seemed pretty full and he had no intention of giving it back quite yet. He was going to need a bit more to drink if he was going to be able to face Lachie tonight...
"So since we're sharing...wanna tell me why your moping down here, all alone instead of heading back to your room?"
Chase scoffed and shook his head, giving her a somewhat incredulous look. "Did you witness the part where I nearly took my roommates pants of him or were only there to witness your destruction of my relationship?" Now that he'd had time to think of it he was beginning to feel a little bit of resentment towards the girl who sat beside him. She really hadn't helped things with Emily tonight.

Elena simply kept her eyes trained on Chase when he didn't answer her straight away, and she wasn't surprised that even after taking a drink from the flask, he kept hold of it. Rolling her eyes she took another long drag of her own cigarette stretching out her legs in front of her, and running a hand through her long blonde locks. She was looking forward to bed now, her body was suddenly beginning to ache from the extra curricular activities she and Granton had been involved in only hours before the Slytherin after party.
When he shook his head though and scoffed at her question, Elena smiled, finally glad to be getting some reaction from him, and also because she knew what followed next. "Oh don't worry baby I was lucky enough to witness both...most of the school was in fact so don't worry..." she said, patting his shoulder, not bothered at about the look he was giving her. "And lucky me gets to witness your pity party here...certainly been a good night all around I reckon." she said.
Looking at Chase she gave him a smile before pushing herself up to her feet, in the process snatching the flask back out of his hands and taking a long swig of it as she took a couple of steps away from him, and back towards the entrance door. Taking one last drag of the smoke in her hand, she savoured the rush of nicotine before flicking the stub away. Turning on her heel she looked back at Chase and took a few steps back towards him, taking a sip of the flask before holding it back out to him.
"You know what your problem is? Your so ready to blame everyone else for this except the one person whose fault it actually is." she said as a matter of factly, crossing her arms over her chest and leaning back against the wall all the while keeping her eyes trained on him. She didn't mind him blaming her, but he was going to have to listen to a few home truths, "You really think your little girl-friend would have been so quick to believe what she saw in the hall if you hadn't of screwed up only hours before...to be honest I'm surprised she believed whatever bull you told her then to get her to forgive you..." she said with a shrug, looking down at her nails. "Truth is Chase...everything that happened tonight is your own doing, you planted that mistrust in her head, you spiked the punch, you broke whatever you two had, up into tiny pieces..."
Elena paused looking down at Chase for a moment, not feeling at all sorry for what she was saying. He needed to hear it, she didn't care if it upset him, though she wasn't a total B*tch, which is why she said the next thing. "Look sitting here, moping around in this pity party for one, blaming everyone else for your mistake is not going to get you the girl or help you work things out with that friend of yours. The only way things are going to get better is if you make the effort. Get up, stop sulking and feeling sorry for poor little Chase and go and fix things..." she told him, shooting him a small smile.
Like previously mentioned...she wasn't a total heartless cow like many believed....

Chase didn't comment, knowing that he'd probably end up saying something to harsh to her if he did. Not the he should care about being a prick towards this particular Slytherin, but he still wasn't about to risk it. It was only when Elena snagged the flask back out of his hands that he started paying attention again. He was going to drink that! Damn it...
He watched as she moved away from him, finish her cigarette, move back towards him, take a drink from the flask, and hold it back towards him. Well, he wasn't about to risk her changing her mind before he could have another drink so he took it straight from her and gulped, wincing again at the steady burn in his throat. There was a reason most people drank this stuff in small doses and not in huge swigs. Chase shuddered involuntarily.
Chase looked back to Elena as she spoke. What did she mean? He quickly finished off the rest of his own cigarette and flicked the end away, not caring that they were still inside the school rather than outside.
"You really think your little girl-friend would have been so quick to believe what she saw in the hall if you hadn't of screwed up only hours before...to be honest I'm surprised she believed whatever bull you told her then to get her to forgive you..."
Ha! Even as she spoke Chase rolled his eyes, muttering under his breath. "Not that you helped much." True, that was kind of his fault, but how was he supposed to know that the blonde head he saw coming down the stairs wasn't Emily? What purpose did a Slytherin have to be up there at the time anyway? He wasn't taking the blame for that.
The not letting her out of the cupboard bit... Sure, that probably wasn't the wisest decision, but it's not like he was even going to do anything, it was all joking. Emily had believed him because he told her the truth.
Heck! He'd all but poured his heart out to her up there after Elena had left the scene. What more could he have done that tell her just how much she meant to him?
... But that was just it, wasn't it? Why was she so fast to believe what she saw in the hall when not even an hour earlier he'd been telling her exactly how he felt about everything that was going on between them?
Chase took another swig while Elena went on. Damn it he didn't want to be hearing all of this! But then... she was right, wasn't she?
"Truth is Chase...everything that happened tonight is your own doing, you planted that mistrust in her head, you spiked the punch, you broke whatever you two had, up into tiny pieces..."
"Stop!" Damn it! This wasn't helping him, this really, really wasn't. It was just making him feel like complete and utter sh*t. All he'd wanted to do tonight was set Lachie off after some random girls and give them something to laugh about. He never planned for any of this to happen. He hadn't asked to be spiked in return. He hadn't wanted Lachie to be looking at him. He hadn't wanted to ruin his friendship and his relationship tonight. And that relationship... it was so new as it was, what could he really do to fix this?
Something about what Elena said played on his mind and it took him a while to pin point what it was that seemed so... off. His eyes shot to her. "Hang on, how do you know it was me that spiked the punch?"
He didn't want to dwell on it. Anyway, by then Elena had already started talking again and he quickly turned his attention back to her words.
"Look sitting here, moping around in this pity party for one, blaming everyone else for your mistake is not going to get you the girl or help you work things out with that friend of yours. The only way things are going to get better is if you make the effort. Get up, stop sulking and feeling sorry for poor little Chase and go and fix things..."
"You're right, as much as it pains me to say it." He took a final gulp from the flask before holding it back for her to take, the weight of it significantly lighter than when she'd first gave it to him. "Problem is, it's after 1 in the morning. What the hell can I do to fix anything at this time?"
Chase shook his head and pushed himself unsteadily to his feet, wobbling slightly, more from the numbness that had accumulated in his long sit on the cold stone steps than from the alcohol, though that probably played its part too.
What was he doing asking Elena what to do? She wasn't about to start telling him all the answers. He needed to work this out himself. Well, his first point of call should be his dorm room and his bed. And if he could try and sort things out with Lachie in the process then all the better.
Something stirred uneasily in his stomach at the thought of facing Lachie. Even now the very idea was a daunting one. What was he supposed to say? How was he supposed to act? How could he even look at him?
Chase sighed and shook his head, wishing he hadn't been so hasty in handing back the flask. "To bed it is, I supposed..."

"Hang on, how do you know it was me that spiked the punch?"
Elena looked down at Chase and shrugged her bare shoulders, "I didn't...not really, it was just a rumour...you just confirmed it..." she said, not too surprised that the rumour had been true. Guys like Chase always pulled stupid pranks like this at school events, then would sit around and sulk when their plans fell through. It was rather amusing actually because it was mostly the guys in her house who screwed things up this badly. Glancing down at her perfectly painted and sculptured black nails she sighed quietly before he spoke again, drawing her attention back onto him.
Taking the flask from him, she took a sip, finishing it off before screwing the lid back on. Looked like another refill was in order when she got back to her room. "Of course I'm right dude...common sense...you were just to wrapped up in your pity party to come to the conclusion yourself..." she said offhandedly pushing off the wall, not wavering in her heels surprisingly considering how high they were.
"Problem is, it's after 1 in the morning. What the hell can I do to fix anything at this time?"
Elena watched as he stood unsteadily, not that she'd reach out to catch him if he fell. Sure she was going out on a limb just talking to him, stopping him from falling was not something she was willing to do. "Well as a girl myself I'd recommend you leave Prescott for tonight...trust me...find her tomorrow, grovel, tell her the truth and hope she likes you enough to accept you back...as for Parker, well..." Elena trailed off and shrugged her shoulders, taking the first step towards the grand staircase that would lead down to her dorms.
"Just grow a pair and face him...it's not like either of you were in your right minds...there have been a lot of questionable things I've done in the heat of the..." she trailed off and waved her hand, her eyes glazing slightly as she thought on some of those things she'd done. "Good times...Never mind I wouldn't want to bore you, just get to your room and sort it, he's just as guilty...pair of you just need to get over it...move on...it was simply bromance gone wild..." she laughed and shook her head.
Yeah. It was definitely time for bed now she was beginning to feel a little friendly. Looking at Chase she nodded her head and began to climb the steps, her heels echoing loudly through the near empty hall, "Bed it is...oh and Connors..." she turned to face him, a small smile on her face, "Next time you pull a stupid prank like this, probably best to leave your best friend and girl-friend out of it...as this was a one time thing...don't expect me to help you out every time you screw things up...oh and don't tell anyone about tonight...and I am talking about both occasions..." she said referring back to the broom cupboard incident as well.

"Well as a girl myself I'd recommend you leave Prescott for tonight...trust me...find her tomorrow, grovel, tell her the truth and hope she likes you enough to accept you back...as for Parker, well..."
And that was exactly what he was hoping to do. There was little chance of finding Emily now, and chances are she'd still be too angry with him to even hear him out. He'd at least need to give her till tomorrow to cool off, though even that might not be enough time. But no, he'd look for her tomorrow and try and explain everything to her, and keep his fingers crossed that the truth didn't make her hate him more.
As for Parker indeed... That was going to be the hardest, he was sure. He just had absolutely no idea what to expect from it. Would Lachie be able to laugh this off or was he going to be seething angry? Well, being labelled as gay wasn't going to do either of them any good which he had no doubt Lachie would be thinking about. Oh well...
Chase looked at Elena and raised an eyebrow as she mentioned something about questionable things. He tried to not smirk at her. It wasn't hard to imagine the blonde in front of him doing 'questionable things' at all, but, he pushed the thoughts away. She was right, it was time to head back to his room at sort things out. Bromance? Now that made him snigger.
"Bed it is...oh and Connors... Next time you pull a stupid prank like this, probably best to leave your best friend and girl-friend out of it...as this was a one time thing...don't expect me to help you out every time you screw things up...oh and don't tell anyone about tonight...and I am talking about both occasions..."
Chase laughed and shook his head, "Help not expected, believe me. And you secrets safe with me. I'm saying nothing."
With a sigh, Chase looked back into the Great Hall where only a few students and some Professors still hung around. Well, hopefully everyone else had a fun night out of this. For Chase, it had been downright strange. Who'd have thought he's end the night drinking, smoking, and talking with a Slytherin? And Elena no less.
"Well, this is goodnight from me..." He took a few steps towards the direction of his common room still somewhat reluctant. He paused and looked back. "Thanks for the drink."
