[/color][/b]Bryony is about 5 feet tall with long brown hair and large brown eyes. A little on the short side, she's praying she'll go through a growth spurt like her dad says he did at her age. She's trying hard to keep her weight down, but sometimes she does get a bit chubby when she doesn't get out enough, like in the winter time. She dresses casually, mostly muggle clothes, and loves skirts and anything sparkly or pink or girly especially. [/blockquote][/blockquote]in-depth appearance:
[/color][/b] Bryony is a very cheerful girl, she tries to see things in a positive way, and tries to look on the bright side of things. The glass isn't just half full, it's half full of tangerine juice! She tends to be openminded, and give people a chance to show her their good side, before she judges them bad. Some people thinks she's naive because of that, but she tries to ignore that.in-depth personality:
She gets excited very easily, and throws herself into things with an enthusiasm that can be a bit intimidating. She tends to get overambitious with projects and her potions partners view her participation with reactions ranging from timid smiles, resignation or outright dread. Often her attempts to make things better and improved lead to minor explosions and the occasional unexpected result. Full of school spirit, if she had been a muggle she would have been a cheerleader.
While she does tend to laugh easily and make friends quickly, she does have one little secret that only one or two people share. While discrimination against muggleborns is discouraged, she couldn't help but be aware of it since day one, and does her best to not show her ignorance when widely known subjects are discussed, and does her own research privately, later. She isn't ashamed of her background, but she doesn't want to subject herself to the inevitable ribbing and nosiness she'd seen other people go through. Sure, girls like Lily could get away with it, she was smart and stunning and a born leader of her year, but Bryony wasn't exactly in her league. So, for the first and only time in her life, she went throught the discretion is the better part of valor idea. She doesn't lie, and she has never flatly said she's a halfblood, but with her mum off god knows where, people naturally assume that that is where she gets her magic from, and she doesn't bother to correct them.[/blockquote][/blockquote]

Bryony grew up as a muggle to two parents, and lived a fairly normal if somewhat disorganized lifestyle. It seemed her mum was always trying something else. Palmistry, seances, crystals, aromatherapy, it was always something. It sometimes seemed as if her first five years of life were filled with some weird new smell every time she'd wake up. Patchouli incense burning, or sage burning, or some other not so legal substance, there was almost always something burning somewhere in the flat. Open windows, fans, and shallow breaths were the rule up until she was about six.
When she turned six, the battles between her mum and dad became epic. The recurring themes were, 'you are trying to keep me from realizing my full potential" "you are trying to rule over me, just like a man" "you are not in harmony with your inner essense" (mum), "You need to grow up and take responsibility for your life, we have a daughter" "Life isn't all about burning pretty things and blowing money on spiritualists and fortune tellers, we can't afford this" and "Why did I marry you? I should have just went and married that nice Esther from the church bake sale mum used to go on about" (dad)
After about the five millionth argument, her parents finally split. More accurately, her mum ditched them to go 'find herself' in Ireland, presumably because of the leylines, or the deep supernatural history or some rot.
This brought her dad around to some serious thinking. He buckled down, hired a sitter and began making great strides at work, motivated by wanting to give Bryony some stability. He rose in the ranks with record speed, eventually landing a great position that allowed him more flexible hours. He began participating more, going to her school assemblies, listening to her recite her lessons at night, and began scheduling annual vacations once they were on their feet. Eventually his bitterness towards Aurelia faded, and he allowed her to come around once in a while to see their daughter, though her efforts on this front were a bit lopsided and forgetful. He tried to compensate by being more attentive and buying her expensive things to make up for it, and encouraging her girly side, hoping she wouldn't feel the loss of a mother figure. Overall, Bryony shrugs her mum's absent mindedness off, and is glad her dad is such a great parent.

Melissa sighed and shifted on her feet. She had visited several graves and none of them really held her interest. That sounded kind of harsh in her head, but how else to say it? She had seen everyone else all enthusiastic, but this lesson merely creeped her out. Until she arrived at Hogwarts, she never believed in ghosts or anything supernatural. Everything relating to ghosts and the dead or undead made her uncomfortable. Except zombie movies. Those rocked!
And now she was here in a graveyard. Trying to coax out a ghost. Why? Sometimes she thought the teachers got some kind of sick kick out of freaking them out at times, but kept that bit to herself. She wandered around idly and wondered, if one of them died of a heart attack tonight, would Serafina sip a couple of pints before turning them in?
She hadn't been watching where she was going but found herself farther than she would have gone from the teacher if she hadn't been lost in her thoughts. She stopped at a rather plain headstone and peered at the engravings. Underneath a rose carved near the top of the stone, she read the following,
Athena Hargrove
January 15, 1956 - March 21, 1972
The stress was too much,
excessive homework caused
our angel to gain her wings too soon.
Heed her life as an example.
Melissa frowned. She wasn't sure she liked this part. She concentrated on the headstone, wondering if she was supposed to speak out loud, or think or what. She didn't hear anyone else speaking, unless they were whispering. Before she could come to a decision, a tired, papery voice began to speak.
"Hello...why are you here? I'm taking a nap"
Melissa felt awkward and began to stammer, "Ummm....hi? I hate to disturb you and all, but see this is for Divination class, and--"
Before she could finish her sentence the voice suddenly became alert, and very very LOUD.
"Oh my god, what is wrong with you people?! ?! ?! I didn't get enough torture in life with this homework crap and now I can't even have a peaceful afterlife now?
GET OUT!! Go back to where you came from!! LEAVE ME ALOOOONE!!!!"
Melissa squeaked, and felt all her blood drain to her feet. Without thinking about portkeys or going alone in the dark, she ran as fast as she could back to school, her robes flying out behind her.
