Chase took the stairs two at a time, ignoring the shouts and questions flung his way from his roommates he left below. He had a little something he wanted to do before he went into the Ball and it involved a certain blonde haired Gryffindor who he just happened to be dating.
He only went to the first floor and waited. Why the first? Because that was where the rather well placed broom cupboard was. Just on the corner next to the stairs. So, when his gorgeous blond-haired girl came past the corner he hid behind, it would be easy enough to grab her and pull her in with him.
He wedged the door open slightly so that he wouldn't be fighting with the door handle later, then stood watch at the corner for Emily, waiting for her to arrive.
Peeking around the corner Chase spotted blond and dived back around before he could be seen. What was Emily wearing? Something short and black from the looks of things, but at least she was coming down on her own which made things easier. For him at least.
What would she think of his costume? Being perfectly honest, Chase still didn't fully understand the reasoning behind it but he was sure that Emily would, being a muggle born just like Lachie.
As the footsteps neared, Chase hovered, ready to pounce.
3...2...1...
He lunged out, one arm wrapping around her waist, pinning one arm to her side, and the other covering her mouth gently as he tugged her quickly backwards and into the waiting broom closet. The door clicked shut behind them and the lights came on, dim but enough to see by.
Success! He had Emily just where he wanted her.
Only... It wasn't Emily.

For the first time ever involving a school social event, Elena found herself looking forward to it. Main reason being it was Halloween, night when all the freaks came out and it wasn't just her. Plus it was always fun to make fun of what some of the idiots in this school came dressed up as, especially the ones who believed they looked great when really they looked horrendous. Elena herself was wearing her trademark black, her outfit nothing special, something she'd probably wear on a daily basis minus the wings.
Narcissa had long since gone ahead after finishing her own outfit, which Elena thought was completely inspired. Never one to gush over a female friends appearance, even Elena had to admit Narcissa looked HOT. Then again, looking down at her own outfit Elena would easily admit to anyone who asked, that she knew how hot she looked. There was no one though she was out to impress unlike the rest of the female population at this school, who were all probably trying to dress provocatively to snag themselves some pathetic, sex-obsessed, drooling guy.
Flipping her long blonde hair over her shoulder, Elena walked down the first floor corridor with her head held high, her heals clicking loudly against the stone floor. She'd long since learned how to balance in heels on the somewhat uneven ground, so not once did her steps falter. Not at least until she was grabbed from behind, a hand slapping over her mouth to muffle whatever swear word she'd been about to verbalise. Elena felt herself pulled back into a dark closet, the person not letting go of her, as the door closed and the light came on. Immediately her eyes narrowed, "I admire your enthusiasm Connors but your not really my type..." she said, arching her eyebrow, "Care to let go of me now?"

(perhaps not the best picture to use, but meh.)
Oh sh*t... That wasn't Emily. A blond haired 5th year, sure, but not a Gryffindor beauty called Emily. Though, Elena sure what looking hot tonight. Even as he realized that he'd just 'kidnapped' the wrong girl he didn't immediately step away like he should have.
Elena's eyes narrowed at first, then an eyebrown rose as she asked in he was going to let her go. "I don't know. Do I care to?"
Alarm bells rang in his head and he knew that he should step back and release her, but after years of playing playboy and being free to do as he liked, getting his head around all the restriction of a relationship was taking a bit of getting used to. Not to say that he didn't want it -he did. He liked Emily. Surprisingly a lot and he wanted to be in a serious relationship with her... but fact of the matter, old habits die hard.
With a small sigh, he released the other girls waist, placing his hands on the wall instead, and looked at her, an eyebrow of his own raised and a smirk to rival any Slytherin on his face. It wasn't often you caught a Slytherin in this position, after all.
"So...."

Elena wasn't stupid and she didn't miss Chase'e hesitation to step away. In fact his hands remained on her hips for seconds after she asked if he'd let go, he even threw back a witty retort and for a few moments longer, Elena didn't think he was going to let go. Not that she was surprised, after all this was Chase Connors, a playboy, not that she'd ever been there with him herself but the boy did have somewhat of a reputation around the school.
Finally with some extreme reluctance by the looks of it, Chase let her go, his hands sliding down from her waist and instead moving to the wall. His arm just so happened to be blocking the door as well, looking at him Elena wondered if he'd done that on purpose and returned his smirk.
"So...?"
He let that one small word hang between them and Elena chuckled, his cockiness was amusing. One would even believe him to be a Slytherin if they got a look at that smirk on his face. Crossing her arms over her chest, Elena shifted her footing into a more comfortable stance and arched an eyebrow at Chase. For a moment she looked at him pointedly, then looked to the door before returning her gaze to the Hufflepuff boy.
"So...I'd imagine this is the time you move aside and let me out without me having to threaten violence." she said as a matter of factly, unable to help the small smile on her lips. The situation she now found herself in was amusing to say the least, of all the people to be pulled into a broom cupboard by, Chase Connors was not on the list, though there was no denying he was good looking...

"Threaten violence, huh? That almost sounds fun." Chase grinned as he said it, letting his gaze drop once more to the cleavage that he could see with his height advantage as he pushed away and stepped back. His grin grew. It was true, old habits really did die hard. But even if he was in a relationship with Emily, he was still allowed to look and appreciate, right?
Stepping back in the broom cupboard didn't exactly put a lot of space between them. Elena's back was against one wall and Chase's against the other, and he could still touch his fingers against the opposite wall. He let them drop though, then crossed his arms over his chest, still watching the Slytherin's face. He bent one knee and rested his foot against the wall, effectively blocking off the door again even though there was a slight space left. If she tried to leave she'd still brush past his leg no matter how she tried.
He couldn't keep away the half grin half smirk. It was just a rather... amusing situation to be in. Think about it: The broom cupboards are known for being the place for adventurous student to go to have a quick snog and neck on, and other than that, there was very little reason to go there. Now, he could say he'd been in the broom closet with this strange Slytherin girl on the night of the Halloween Ball. How would that sound to anyone? There was only one thing in everyone's minds when it came to the broom closet.
Emily probably would be less than impressed though and it would take quite a lot of explaining. Maybe he should just keep quiet about this whole thing... Probably the safer option.
Emily... She was probably already down in the Great Hall now. There was that plan ruined. Oh well, he might as well see where this funny little conversation was going to go since he wasn't exactly in a rush anymore.
Once again, he let his gaze drop for a few seconds.
"Not bad. Not bad at all." he paused for effect. "Of course I mean your costume." He didn't. She no doubt knew that. But it was a rather nice dress.

"I'm a Slytherin any violence I inflict on you won't be considered fun...well to some it would..." she chuckled, though it was still a threat, looking directly at Chase, she arched her eyebrow as he blatenly looked down at her cleavage. "You enjoying yourself?"This boy certainly was something else, and not in a way that made her want to get to know him. Though she knew a lot of guys like Chase, and knew how to handle them, though looking around there was barely enough room to move let alone punch him.
"Dude, why will you not move...?" she asked, seriously confused as to why he kept blocking the door, sure he'd lowered his arm but now he had his foot against the wall, which in turn put his knee in the path way. The only way out would include rubbing up against him and she wasn't going to give him that kind of satisfaction, he'd probably enjoy that. No, there was no probably about it, the smirk on his face said it all, he was highly amused by the situation he was keeping them in. Elena would admit it was a strange situation and not at all what she'd been expecting as she walked up from her common room.
Again his gaze dropped and he eyed her, "Not bad. Not bad at all." Then he went on and tried to make her believe he of course meant her dress, but Elena smirked, she wasn't an idiot, she knew he was checking her out and she had no problems with it. She had a great body, at least she believed so, it only served to feed that belief when someone else appreciated it to, "Of course you did..." she said in response, shaking her head and placing her hands onto her hips, "So the question stands, are you going to move and let me out or are you keeping me here because you want to make out? Because considering I'm obviously not the girl you intended to grab, you sure are doing your best to keep me here...!" she smirked, looking right at him, daring him to deny he was in fact not blocking her way out.

"You enjoying yourself?"
"Certainly." Chase grinned. It wasn't about to deny it. They were a fine pair to admire.
Elena looked confused as she asked why he wasn't moving, and he could also see the way she looked around and judged the distance between his leg and the wall to see whether she could get back him. He didn't answer her though, just let his smirk/grin widen.
He watched as she placed her hands on her hips. She wasn't fooled. She knew exactly what he'd meant. She questioned him again, and all the while he kept his eyes on hers, and he knew from her smirk that she was daring him to skewer the truth here.
Chase raised an eyebrow and a smile tugged at the corners of his mouth. "I don't need to move. You can easily get out... if you want to."He turned things around on her. "As for making out - you're the one who suggested it, not me. " He sent a wink her way. As for her not being the girl he intended, that was certainly the truth. He'd been expecting to be making out with Emily by now, not trying to one-up a Slytherin, though it was turning into a rather interesting turn of events. "And once again, I'm not keeping you here. The door is right there. I'm over here. You're the one who got dragged in here - I was supposed to be here. Perhaps it's you who is looking to make out... Well I wouldn't blame you if you did."
Talk about sounding cocky and arrogant! But hey, Chase was Chase and he would gladly admit he was a pretty good looking guy and he used that to his advantage.

Elena Elena narrowed her eyes dangerously at Chase and took a step closer to him, "Your an arrogant little boy...you'd fit right in Slytherin..." she said softly, her hand reaching out to run over his chest. Hey if he was keeping her here then he had what was coming to him, thing was she was in no mood for fooling around any more, "Word of warning, trap me like this again and set it up so I have to rub against you if I want to leave I will personally end you." she smiled, patting his cheek almost affectionately, reaching for the door handle only for the door to swing open on it's own, revealing...
[/blockquote][/blockquote] Emily Emily finally got out of the dorm, running a few minutes later than she'd intended to be out, but finally after perfecting her outfit she'd left the Gryffindor tower with somewhat of a bounce in her step. She truly had been looking forward to this evening, after all she loved Halloween, even more so when she'd been a mere child, going door to door with her friends trick or treating.
Shaking her head with a low chuckle, Emily began finally making her way down the first floor corridor, already able to hear the music floating up from the Great Hall. Her excitement for the night increased tenfold, and again she looked down at her outfit still feeling like it was a little on the short side...but what the hell, it was Halloween, a night to be someone else. Tonight she'd simply be a girl who didn't mind her skirts being on the shorter side.
Taking a breath she walked past the broom cupboard, a smirk tugging at her lips as she heard the voices inside. Though before she got too far her steps faltered and she ground to an instant halt, recognising at least one of those voices. Closing her eyes, Emily tried to convince herself she was simply imagining things but again the voice spoke, followed by a girls and there was a lot of talk about making out.
Spurred on by something inside her, Emily turned and walked towards the broom closet and without hesitation pulled open the door to find her fears confirmed. There was Chase, standing intimately close to another girl, a Slytherin and Elena Haworth of all people and Emily felt her heart constrict in her chest painfully.
"Would have been nice of you to knock Prescott...though I must thank you, this ones been looking for an excuse to get me to rub up against him, hence the arm and leg in front of the door..." Elena said with a smirk, looking to Chase comprehension dawning on her features as she looked from him to Emily, "This is the girl you were waiting for? Wow..." she looked at Emily and chuckled before brushing past Chase, extremely close and stepping out of the closet, "He's all yours..." she said again, winking at Emily before walking away.
Emily kept her eyes locked on Chase, not paying any attention to Elena, a girl who she disliked passionately even more so now she'd seen Chase....shaking her head, Emily let out a resigned chuckle and turned on her heel. Emily wouldn't allow him to see her upset, "Don't bother following me..." she warned him simply, determined still to go to the Ball, despite having witnessed what she just had. Her heart hammered wildly inside her chest as she watched Elena disappear around the corner, and with that she stepped away from the closet and turned to carry on her way to the Great Hall

Elena stepped closer to him and his eyebrows shot up, somewhat amused. Fit in Slytherin? Now there was half an insult. He'd heard it before. He wasn't expecting Elena to reach up and run a hand over his chest, so he took in a sharp breath when she did, and somehow it just didn't seem to fit with the threat that came his way. Not that he particularly believed she was capable of it. She was a Slytherin, sure. But dangerous? He doubted it. Most of them were all talk. Chase said nothing, just listened, slightly amused.
Just as Elena leant past him to reach for the door handle the door in question opened without assistance. His eyes shot up to head high to see who was there. A guilty look passed briefly over his face at the sight of Emily standing there, taking in the scene before her. This...didn't look good at all...
Chase glared at Elena as she spoke. What the hell was she doing!? At the metion of his current position he moved so that he was standing with both feet firmly on the floor. He narrowed his eyes, face serious for once. God damnit how was he supposed to explain his way out of this?
He looked to Emily, torn between whether he should meet her eyes or look away, and settling on looking in her eyes in hopes that he wouldn't look so guilty if he did. At the same time, he wasn't ready for the mix of emotion that he could see on her face.
Chase paid little attention to Elena after that, only narrowing his eyes to glare at her briefly as she finally worked out that he'd been waiting for Emily. Did that girl not realize exactly how much sh*t she'd just stirred?
Even with the space now between him and the door Elena still brushed past him on her way out. Intentionally no doubt. Bloody Slytherin...
Chase and Emily didn't look away from each other as Elena vanished down the corridor. He didn't care what the other blond was doing. She'd caused more trouble than he knew how to get himself out of. His eyes scanned Emily's face and searched her eyes. He could see that hint of betrayal there, and... acceptance, almost? Something in his chest pulled tight. She'd been expecting something like this to happen. She'd been waiting for him to be a complete jerk and f*ck everything up... God damnit!!!
Before he could say anything Emily spoke. "Don't bother following me..."
To hell he wasn't! "Emily..." She turned and began to walk away. A million things to say raced through his head in those few seconds but he dismissed them all, knowing they wouldn't be the right thing to say.
"Emily, please. Wait." He lunged forward to grab at her wrist and pulled her back towards him, his free hand going securely to her waist, both to stop her from falling and also so that she couldn't run from him. "Please, babe. Please just listen. Hear me out. It's not like that all all."
Even as he said it he knew that words were over used and never believed. Everyone used them. God Damnit!!!

Emily Emily ignored Chase as he called her name and shook her head as she carried on walking away. Though before she could get more than 2 metres away from the closet, Chase had lunged forward grabbing her by the wrist and pulling her back into him, his arm sliding around her waist effectively trapping her to him. Emily forced her eyes closed to block out her bodies reaction to his touch, how she all but sunk into his embrace.
"Please, babe. Please just listen. Hear me out. It's not like that all all."
At that Emily let out a small chuckle and regained control of her senses once more. Reaching her free hand down she pulled Chase's arm from around her waist and turned around to look at him, her face expressionless as she took him in for a moment. There was a sincerity in his eyes that threw her and forced her to stand there and not leave him alone in the corridor. A part of her wanted to hear what he had to say, wanted to hear what his excuse was. There was also a part of her that stupidly hoped he was right and it hadn't been like what it seemed at all, but his reputation was against him and she struggled to believe that.
"Fine, tell me then Chase, what was it like?" she asked, carefully pulling her wrist out of his grasp and crossing her arms over her chest as she looked at him, careful to keep the hurt she'd felt tucked away, not wanting him to see it. She would listen to him, she prayed he was being honest and she'd simply misjudged. Elena Haworth was after all, manipulative and could cause trouble in an empty building if she so desired.
Perhaps Chase had pulled Elena in there by accident, but if that were the truth why hadn't he simply allowed her to go once he figured it out. Why keep her there, blocking her way out like Elena said, so she'd have to brush up against him on leaving. Emily wondered why he hadn't thought of her, even if it was completely innocent why risk making things seem that bad...why...was she not enough to keep him satisfied?

Chase felt his shoulder droop and as she pulled away from his grasp, and he closed his eyes briefly, battling back a barrage of emotions. The emotions that swelp through him so suddenly shook him and he was, being honest, a little scared at some of them. What were these new feelings?
"Fine, tell me then Chase, what was it like?"
As she said it she pulled away from him completely and bit some space between them, crossing her arms over her chest and putting a barrier between them.
For once, Chase didn't try to hide how he felt or close himself off. He usually tried to keep control over just what he showed of himself, especially if it was something negative, but this? No. He wasn't about to hide from her. Perhaps she would be able to see just how much he regreted this situation that they were in, and how much he had to blame himself for.
He looked down for a few seconds try to find a way to organise his thoughts but he failed miserably. There was no good way to do this - whatever he said it would sound bad.
Chase sighed and met Emily's eyes again. Now she was here in front of him he couldn't understand why he'd been thinking any of the things that he had when he'd been faced with Elena in the broom cupboard. Those thoughts seemed so stupid and foolish now that he was back, standing face to face with perhaps the most beautiful and intriging girl in Hogwarts.
"I..."Chase faltered. Where did he even start? With a sigh, he stepped forward slightly and reached out as if her were about to touch her, but stopped himself, clenching his fingers into a fist before letting them fall back to his side. He closed his eyes briefly again before returning them to hers. "I'd been looking out for you. I'd wanted to steal you away before the night began and spend some time, just a while, just us. When I saw blond hair I thought it was you and hid till you got here. I... I thought I'd pulled you in there with me. I didn't expect it to be her."
There was a lot left unsaid and he knew it, but really, he had no easy way to explain himself. Why hadn't he just let Elena go? Why had all those thoughts passed through his mind? Why had he risked this?

Emily watched Chase carefully, not missing how suddenly deflated he seemed, how so unlike himself he was and if she was honest that surprised her somewhat. Sure she'd expected something, but seeing this side of Chase, a side that seemed at a loss of what to do or say, well it threw her off guard. As she waited for him to talk she watched a wide range of different emotions cross over his handsome face, guilt, disappointment, regret, sadness...all of which shocked her and all she wanted was to reach out, put her arms around him and bring back the other Chase. Instead though she remained fixed to her spot, refusing to do so until she knew what had gone on, she simply prayed it had been nothing.
He reached out to her, before obviously second thinking it and allowing his hand to fall to his side in a tight fist. He was faltering and the longer he took to answer, the more Emily was sure something had happened. It had to otherwise why was he taking so long... "I'd been looking out for you. I'd wanted to steal you away before the night began and spend some time, just a while, just us. When I saw blond hair I thought it was you and hid till you got here. I... I thought I'd pulled you in there with me. I didn't expect it to be her."
Emily nodded her head, she could understand that...kind of. It still didn't answer the other question though, the one that would determine how this conversation would end, would determine their next step, "I can understand that..." Emily said softly, letting her arms drop to her side as she let out a small sigh, looking around the corridor as she rubbed her forehead, working up the courage to ask the other question, before looking back to Chase, "But when you figured out it wasn't me...when you saw that it was Elena, why not back off, let her out the room. Why did you have to keep the door shut, block her way out...just...why Chase?" she finished lamely, taking a step closer to him, forcing him to look at her as she looked at him pleadingly, she wanted to know.

It looked to Chase as if she had to fight to build up the courage to ask her the next question. He knew what she was going to say before she even said it though. Even then, he still didn't know how to explain himself. He would just have to hope that what ever he said on the spot would be enough.
"But when you figured out it wasn't me...when you saw that it was Elena, why not back off, let her out the room. Why did you have to keep the door shut, block her way out...just...why Chase?"
She stepped closer to him and looked up at him, a pleading look in her eyes. He wanted to say something to reassure her that he was in this till the end - whatever it was and wherever it was going, but he didn't know what to say. His hands drifted automatically up to rest lightly on her waist, thumbs rubbing in small circles.
Chase shook his head slowly as he searched for the right words to say. "I don't know..."What sort of lame ass excuse was that? "I guess... I guess that I was grasping at straws I..." He looked off somewhere over her shoulder, not quite able to face her. "I've never been in a serious relationship. I've never wanted to be. But then, I've never felt for anyone the way I feel for you already. That scares me, Emily." He looked down into her eyes, torn with emotions he didn't understand. "It scares me a lot. And I... I don't know what I'm supposed to do. I want this. I want you, but I don't know how to. Whatever that was in there, it was nothing. It was never going to be anything. I just wanted to feel some sembelance of myself I..." He wasn't making sense. How was he supposed to explain that chat with Elena away as being him grasping for his old ways, when that would surely sound worse than anything else he could say to describe it. I was joking about making out with her because I'm scared to go serious with you? How the hell did that even make sense.
He closed his eyes and turned his face away, not daring to say anymore lest he push her away. He put all the emotion he could into his next words, knowing they wouldn't be enough. "I'm sorry."

When his hands came to rest on her waist, Emily didn't step back, she didn't fight it she allowed him this. Allowed herself this as well, his touch was somewhat soothing as she awaited his answer, listening carefully as he tried to find the right words. What was getting to her right now was the fact he refused to meet her eyes, looking instead at something over her shoulder. She longed for him to just look at her, at least that way she could actually see the truth for herself in his eyes.
"...I've never felt for anyone the way I feel for you already. That scares me, Emily."
Emily's eyes widened a fraction as he finally complied with her wishes and looked at her. The truth shone brightly in them, as well as a range of emotions Emily was shocked to see were directed at her. He cared for her that much was obvious, he was scared he said as much but didn't have to, the fear was there in his eyes. Maybe they'd moved to fast. Except as she thought that Emily instantly found she didn't believe it. They'd gone with the flow, their relationship had progressed quickly yes, but they'd both wanted it, and Emily wasn't regretting a moment.
When he closed his eyes and turned his face away from her, Emily sighed softly and closed her own eyes, letting her head fall forward slightly. "I'm sorry." There was a deep sincerity in his voice that finally convinced Emily to let this one go. Had it hurt to see him in there with that Slytherin of all people, sure it had, but did she believe they'd done anything? No. That was all that mattered, right? Blowing out a breath Emily looked up, making her decision.
"I know your sorry...look, I'm no expert in relationships, but one piece of advice I can give you is that if you want this...with me...then that can't happen again..." she said, placing her hand on his cheek, "It's okay..." she said quietly but honestly. Slowly the tension eased out of her body as she pushed herself up onto her tiptoes, completely forgetting where they were and kissed him softly on the lips. "Your an idiot Chase Connors...now what were you saying about stealing me away for a moment?" she asked, giving him a small smile.

"I know your sorry...look, I'm no expert in relationships, but one piece of advice I can give you is that if you want this...with me...then that can't happen again..."
He opened his eyes as he felt her hand on his cheek, and he smiled softly at her. He didn't deserve her forgiveness either. She much have known what he was thinking because she told him it was okay, then leanded up and kissed him softly. He kissed her back, needing her to know that he meant everything that he'd said.
"I don't want to make promises that I don't know I can keep. I want to keep them. I want this - you. I want whatever it is we are and that we're becoming. But I meant what I said; this scares me. This is new ground for me and I don't know where to step. It's hard to leave behind the path I know when I can't see what's on the other side of the hill, if you get my drift."He pressed another soft kiss to her lips."Help me. Help me do this. I want this. Don't ever doubt that. Just help me do it."
He pulled her in close, into a tight hug, not wanting to let her go until he heard her speak.
"Your an idiot Chase Connors...now what were you saying about stealing me away for a moment?"
He grinned sligtly at her, sliding his hands over her till he could link his fingers tightly through hers and he stepped backwards. "Come with me to our own little wonderland."He said with a wink. He took in what she was wearing and recognised it instantly. Alice in Wonderland. It was only now that he realized how good she looked in her costume.
He remembered his own and mentally grimaced. What a sight he must look pouring his heart out to her dressed as we was. He could kill Lachie for this...
He pulled her gently into the broom cupboard with him and let the door swing shut behind her, then pressed her against the wall that he had been standing against not so long before. He bend down and kissed her deeply, wanting to push away all the troubles and pains of what had just happened. "You look beautiful tonight." He only pulled away from her by a fraction to whisper the words to her before he claimed her lips with his again, one hand sliding gently into her hair while the other trailed down to where her dress ended midthigh and ran over the soft skin that he found there.
At least something that he'd planned for that night was happening. It all could have ended much worse...
