TURN THE PAGE i'm a book half unread Lachlan simply wasn't feeling up to going to Potions today. They were still doing the same thing they were last lesson - the Draught of Peace -, so why did Lachlan need to turn up to class anyway? Perhaps it was his foul mood, or the fact that he hated repetition, but as he stalked up the stairs towards the roof of Hogwarts, he could feel no remorse for skipping class on this bright early morning.
He had slept quite badly. Even that was an understatement - someone with a cold three beds down from his had decided to snore all night, thus keeping Lachlan and the rest of the boys in a constant state of consciousness. He and Trent had tried everything: stuffing a pillow in his face, casting Quietus (which had no effect at all) and Lachlan accidentally conjured a bouquet of flowers out the end of his wand. Even stuffing those into the boy's face had no effect. Eventually, Trent tried casting a Caterwauling Charm, which should have woken the kid up from the high-pitched shriek that erupted from the end of Trent's wand, but to no avail, the kid continued to snore right through it.
With massive bags under his eyes and the kid still snoring away in the Hufflepuff dorms, Lachlan decided that a nice nap in the sun would do him some good.
Stepping out onto the flat level surface of the roof platform, Lachlan eyed off a spot next to the wall where he could lie down for a bit.

Hestia woke up late. She'd already missed half of potions class by the time she sleepy sat up in bed. She debated whether or not it was worth going to class and decided it wasn't. She wasn't to worried about it. They were studying the same potion they had last time- draught of peace. She knew the potion pretty well already, so instead of going to class she decided to have a free day for herself. She jumped out of bed, threw on some clothes and left her room. Hes had decided to go outside. Why waste such lovely weather inside?
She walked down the halls quickly with her head down trying not to get caught. She wasn't accustomed to skipping out on classes or getting in trouble. Finally she reached the stairs to the roof and began climbing. When she reached the top she pushed the door open slowly, listening to the loud eerie creak it made. She stepped out onto the roof, into the warmth. Hes looked up at the bright sun and closed her eyes and smiled. She stood like that for a moment, enjoying the warmth washing over her.
Hes scanned the roof looking for a place to sit. She began to walk along the flat roof, following alongside the wall when she tripped over something. She looked back behind her down at the ground to see what it was. A boy was laying there on the ground. She stepped back and bent down to look at him.
"Hello?" she whispered quietly. She thought maybe he had passed out and so she poked him to make sure he was alive. He was breathing, at least. "Are you alright?" she added, still whispering.

TURN THE PAGE i'm a book half unread As Lachlan lay down in the middle of the rooftop floor, a thought passed through his head. Was this really the best place to have a nap? But, alas, the demon on his shoulder said 'meh', and within the next two minutes, Lachlan was fast asleep. To most people, having a nap would mean going back to the dormitory, but with Lachlan's bad experience the night before, it was just better to sleep somewhere else. Preferably somewhere quiet; and so, the rooftop would do for now.
Lachlan awoke, his senses feeling a bit groggy as someone jabbed him in the side. He could faintly hear a small voice talking in his ear, but Lachlan barely paid any attention to it. His eyes fluttered open and shut a few times before he finally came to the realisation that it was Hestia Jones crouching above him.
Hestia never really ceased to amaze Lachlan with how stunning she was. Lachlan had to blink a couple of times to really make sure that it was all actually happening, and wasn't another dream-like sequence playing out in his head. "Mmmm, I am dreaming aren't I?" he said in his most flirtatious voice, grinning crookedly at her. It probably looked very silly, as he was so groggy after being woken up from his nap. "Hey Hestia. I'm fine, really. A lot better now that you're here." Slowly, he sat up, regaining consciousness.
"So that probably wasn't the best place to have a nap..." It took him a few seconds to come back to realisation. "Wait! What are you doing up here?" The both of them were skipping Potions - or perhaps Hestia had come to collect him under Slughorn's orders. "You're not here to take me back to class, are you?" Uh oh. This wasn't good.

"Mmmm, I am dreaming aren't I?"
Hestia now recognized the boy. Lachlan Parker, who was in Hestia's class as well. At least she wasn't the only one skipping Potions. She didn't feel so bad now. And she wouldn't be alone either which made it even better. She thought she was going to have to spend her morning alone outside. Lachlan was a fun guy, although he said weird things sometimes.
"Dreaming?" Hestia asked. Even when she looked clueless she was absolutely adorable. "No, you're not dreaming. I'm pretty sure you're awake. Unless you're like one of those sleep walkers in which case you aren't awake but you're still not dreaming but it may seem like it because you're a sleep walker. If that makes sense."
"Hey Hestia. I'm fine, really. A lot better now that you're here." Lachlan still looked half asleep as he sat up. His grin made Hestia giggle quietly.
"Oh good," Hestia said standing back up and smiling down at Lachlan. "I'm glad I could help, I suppose."
"So that probably wasn't the best place to have a nap..."
Hes giggled again. "Hmm, probably not. You know if I hadn't gotten to you the birds might have. They would've pecked at you with their beaks til you woke up. Guess you're pretty lucky I got here first, huh?" she teased smiling brilliantly at Lachlan.
"Wait! What are you doing up here?" Lachlan asked, a worried look on his face. "You're not here to take me back to class, are you?"
"Haha, oh no nothing like that. I slept in a little late. Well, a little more then a little late," Hes amended. "Missed over half of class, so I figured why not just enjoy the rest of my morning and that's what I'm doing now." Hes stepped over to Lachlan's side and slid down the wall, plopping beside him. "How 'bout you? Why are you skipping?"

TURN THE PAGE i'm a book half unread Lachlan blinked a couple of times as he took in Hestia's answer. She doesn't really get my hints, does she, he asked himself as he propped himself up on one elbow, staring over at the pretty blonde. "Yeah, that makes sense," he said slowly, "but I don't think I'm a sleepwalker." He flashed another cheesy grin at her, hoping to impress her somewhat. "Else I would have found my way to somewhere much nicer." He was trying to insinuate he'd find his way into the girl's dormitory, but the sentence hadn't really come out right and he was probably just confusing the poor girl.
He pulled himself up so he was sitting cross-legged on the ground, parallell to where Hestia was still crouching. She had a sweet scent to her and was wearing a bright yellow dress; a colour that matched her sunny personality very well. "You look very nice today," he said, smiling as he leant back on his hands, eyeing her up and down. "And yes, I am rather lucky that you found me here first. Better you than Filch - or, anyone else for that matter." But especially Filch. Nobody liked being found by Filch. Not even Mrs. Norris.
"Well," he started, pushing his fringe out of his eyes as he spoke, "I really couldn't be bothered going to class. We're learning the same thing as yesterday, so, why bother?" It was nice to have some company on such a morning, even if Lachlan did look awful thanks to the lack of sleep he'd gotten. But I wish I had a good reason like you. The boys dormitory was pretty eventful last night, what with Diggory snoring so loudly."
He heard the sounds of birds chirping overhead, and for whatever reason it was, Lachlan's stomach began to growl. Perhaps it was the thought of eggs, but Lachie was beginning to grow rather hungry. "Hey, should we go down and have some breakfast?" he asked, hoping that they would spend the rest of the lesson they had off together. "I'll let you sit next to me..." he winked and laughed, waiting for her reply.

"Yeah, that makes sense," Lachlan said slowly, "but I don't think I'm a sleepwalker." He smiled at her again. He's kinda cute Hes though to herself, smiling back brilliantly. "Else I would have found my way to somewhere much nicer."
Hestia paused, looking confused. "You mean like, Paris or something? I don't think you could sleepwalk all the way there though," Hestia said rethinking it. "Maybe somewhere closer like Honeydukes? That'd be a much nicer place to sleepwalk right?"
"You look very nice today," Lachlan complimented her, smiling as he leant back on his hands, his eyes scanning her up and down. "And yes, I am rather lucky that you found me here first. Better you than Filch - or, anyone else for that matter."
"Well thank you," Hestia said, graciously accepting his compliment. She'd always been proud of her style. Even wearing school robes, she managed to look good. "Ugh, Filch," Hestia said shivering. The guy creeped her out. And she always felt bad for that poor cat.
"Well," he started, "I really couldn't be bothered going to class. We're learning the same thing as yesterday, so, why bother? But I wish I had a good reason like you. The boys dormitory was pretty eventful last night, what with Diggory snoring so loudly." Hestia now noticed the deep circles under his eyes resulting from his lack of sleep last night. It explained why he'd been taking a nap on the roof.
"Hey, should we go down and have some breakfast?" he asked, a hopeful look coming across his face. "I'll let you sit next to me..." Lachlan winked and laughed.
"That sounds pretty good, I didn't realize how hungry I was until now," Hes said nodding. "Well, now silly, where else would I sit?" Hes asked laughing. Lachlan said some weird things sometimes. "Come on!" Hes said happily, grabbing his arm and pulling him and towards the roof door.

TURN THE PAGE i'm a book half unread Lachlan just laughed and shook his head. He'd forgotten how much fun it was to hang out with Hestia; you just had no idea what it was she was going to say next. He thought about Paris - his parents had taken him there once when he was about eight. His younger sister, Melisa, was only five at the time and going through that stage of constantly asking questions. Why are we in Paris? she'd constantly ask. Family memories. Memories of his muggle life - something that wasn't always welcome at Hogwarts, with the Wizarding War brooding outside the school.
His eye caught the blush in Hestia's cheeks at his compliment. Well, perhaps his failing attempts at flirting weren't going as badly as he had first thought. Good. Lachlan was in need of some lady company; and if it was someone as fun to be around as Hestia, he was sure to find happiness. "Yeah, I'm starved, too," Lachlan was always hungry, though. Always.
With the swift pull of Hestia's hand, Lachlan was on his feet and being pulled towards the roof door. "We'll probably have to be sneaky about it," Lachlan said as the two of them travelled down the staircase. "Imagine if we get caught skipping class." His stomach flipped at the thought. Lachlan wasn't very accustom to skipping class and had no idea of the penalties of being caught. Ah well, it was an adventure.
Eventually, after much walking an hiding behind walls to check if Filch was lurking, the two Hufflepuffs made their way into the Great Hall and sat down at the far end of the table decorated in yellow. They were camouflaged by a few older students who probably had a free period. "See him?" Lachlan whispered to Hestia, who was sitting next to him. "That's Amos Diggory. He was the one who kept us up all night snoring." Amos, who had probably heard his name by Lachlan's failed whisper, looked over at the two of them suspisciously. Lachlan pretended to smile and wave, before hiding behind Hestia's back. Ungh. Lachlan could only hope that he wouldn't sleep tonight.
"So what do you have next?" Lachlan inquired as he pulled a pile of bacon onto his plate and stuffed it all into his mouth. He was a bit of a grot sometimes, but he didn't really care.

"Yeah, I'm starved, too. We'll probably have to be sneaky about it," Lachlan said as he traveled down the stairs with Hestia. "Imagine if we get caught skipping class."
"Oh my, your right. Probably detention. I've never had a detention before. Does that stay on your permanent record? I've never had anything bad on my permanent record. Well maybe except for that time back in first year when I accidentally exploded my boil cure potion. But do you think that would honestly be on my record?" Hestia stopped. She was talking non-stop, barely letting Lachlan get a word in edge wise. She giggled. "Sorry about that. Listen to me just talk, talk, talk."
They reached the bottom of the stairs and began ducking and hiding behind statues and walls to avoid Filch if he was around. They eventually made it to the Great Hall, although it took them a good fifteen minutes longer. They sat down at the end of the Hufflepuff table, hidden by a group of older students.
"See him?" Lachlan whispered to Hestia. "That's Amos Diggory. He was the one who kept us up all night snoring."
Hes looked down the table at the boy Lachlan had just pointed out. The boy, as if hearing his name looked down at them, and she smiled friendly down at him before turning back to Lachlan who'd asked her what she had next while shoving some bacon in his mouth. Hes daintily took a piece of toast and sipped some orange juice thinking.
"I have Muggle Studies. Not that I need to go. You?" she asked Lachlan, taking some more toast.

TURN THE PAGE i'm a book half unread With most of his friendships, Lachlan usually did most of the talking. Most people said that Lachlan Parker could talk underwater; which, in the case of the bubble-head charm, Lachlan most definitely could. But, being friends with Hestia was a nice change. He didn't have to constantly talk to keep the conversation going or fill in blank silences. Hestia had a train of thought that was usually said out loud, and Lachlan didn't mind one bit. Walking down to the Great Hall with her was nice; although, Lachlan soon came to the realisation that his romantic advances weren't going to get him very far. There were always plenty more fish in the sea. "If they have permanent records here at Hogwarts, I'm screwed," Lachlan said in return, unable to stop smiling, "but honestly, I think we're both safe. Don't worry too much about it," he finished.
Sitting down at the end of the Hufflepuff table, Lachlan and Hes were completely hidden amongst some of the older students. After stuffing a few bits of bacon in his mouth, Lachlan realised he was being a bit of a grot. Hestia had only grabbed a bit of toast and some orange juice, whereas Lachlan's plate was full of all the different oily foods in front of him. Almost sheepishly, Lachlan wiped his hands on his trousers and reached for an apple.
"I have Muggle Studies, too!" Lachlan said, suddenly coming to the realisation that he, Trent and Hestia were all in the same class. Oh, how unobservant Lachlan was this morning. "I love Muggle Studies. I'm muggle-born, see, so that class is basically the biggest waste of time. And I still get marks for it." Well, at least he thought he was clever. "So you're not going to go to class, then?" he asked casually, taking another bite out of his apple. If Hestia wasn't going, he didn't really need to, either. He'd just get the notes off Trent later. Good old Trent...

"If they have permanent records here at Hogwarts, I'm screwed," Lachlan said in return, still smiling, "but honestly, I think we're both safe. Don't worry too much about it," he concluded.
"Oh goodie!" Hes exclaimed delightfully. "My mother would be so dissappointed and I don't want any bad marks on my record if I plan to work at the ministry." Hes had always dreamed of working in the Department for the Regulation and Comtrol of Magical Creatures because she absolutely loved animals.
"I have Muggle Studies, too!" Lachlan said. "I love Muggle Studies. I'm muggle-born, see, so that class is basically the biggest waste of time. And I still get marks for it. So you're not going to go to class, then?"
Hes paused. They were studying teley-visions today and she wasn't quite sold on the idea of little people moving in a box. She probably shouldn't skip class today but hanging out with Lachlan sounded a lot better then hearing how light bulbs in a box and three colors were used to create moving pictures on a screen. Hes sighed. She'd just have to get the notes from someone else. Maybe Lachlan could help her understand it.
"Nope. Probably should but I think we could both use a break, huh?" Hes smiled at him. "But there is one condition to this for you if I'm going to hang out with you instead."

TURN THE PAGE i'm a book half unread "The ministry, huh?" Lachlan said, frowning. "What kind of job at the ministry?" If he had any luck, he'd be working alongside the gorgeous blonde beside him. Lachlan aspired to be an Auror one day, but, he really needed to work on his duelling skills if he was going to accomplish that. He made a mental note to ask Emily to help him out a bit later on that night, as she was pretty good at it and Lachlan was - well, not so good. He could see Hestia working in many different departments, but knowing Hestia's love for animals, her ideal job would probably have something to do with the department of Control of Magical Creatures. "Yeah, I guess they don't really like hiring people with bad school records." he confessed, after thinking about it. Good thing he was doing so well in Herbology...
He could see that Hestia wasn't all too keen on the idea of going to Muggle Studies - and, afterall, Lachlan was already a muggle. He didn't particularly need to take the class anyway, so perhaps a bit of time well spent with Hestia was the way to go.
Lachlan's ears piped up at the sound of a 'special condition'. Yes! He was finally going to hang out with Hestia in the broom closet - just where he knew he always belonged. His flirting had not been in vain! "Well, I'm sold." he said in a rush, winking at Hes. "What's this condition you speak of, m'lady?"
Lachlan just hoped it wasn't anything to do with schoolwork.
