An Opening ChapterWho am I? Well, that should be simple. I'm James Potter; Gryffindor, Marauder, and Chaser on the house Quidditch team. I'm several other things as well, but it would probably just sound conceited of me to start mentioning them here... then again, this is my dairy so I can probably get away with it.
I call it a diary... it's hardly a diary, it's just a little way of keeping records, but that doesn't sound as good. I don't like the use the word diary but still, I doubt anyone will ever read this apart from myself... at least, I hope no one apart from myself reads this.
If there is one thing that I do want to get clear, it's this: I want Lily Evans. You might know her, you might not. (How can you not?) She's my year and house, and she's a prefect. She also hates me which really sort of sucks, but one day, I'm betting she'll change her mind. Until then, I'm not about to sit back and let life pass me by. There's fun to be had and there's a life to live, and I'm completely in for the ride!
As for this book? Well, I've called it The Bed Post Diary, but that's a bit of an exaggeration. It was a choice of that, or The Big Book of Snogs, and I though Bed Posts sounded better, and maybe a little less obvious? I'm not sure. Any way, my idea is to keep a little record of my experiences with girls because... well, because I want to. There's no real purpose to this, I just want to. In order to do so, I'm going to have to back track in time a little to get back to the start, and then I'll continue on from there, and we'll see how many pages I can fill before I FINALLY get Lily for myself.
Here's hoping that she never ever ever sees what's written in these pages, or I won't have a chance with her!

The BeginningMy very first kiss. How horribly naive does that sound? But, I guess everyone has to start somewhere.
It was February 14th. We were thirteen. It was a Hogsmeade weekend. The excitement of finally being in third year and old enough to go into Hogsmeade still hadn't wore off, and I made the most of every available Hogsmeade weekend that there was. This particular weekend, consisted of watching what seems like thousands, though was probably only hundreds, of couples walking hand in hand through the streets, and everywhere you went there were loved up stares and students holding hands. It wasn't just the students either. It seemed like everyone in Hogsmeade was busy snuggling up to someone they loves as well.
My fellow Marauders? Well, I'd long since lost them. My head hadn't quite been in the right place at the time I was so lost in my thoughts, thinking about all those couples there with their significant other, and that it must be like. I'd stopped walking while we'd been heading to Zonko's, and I'd just stood there, looking around the street for a while. There were a couple of third years and maybe a couple of fourths wandering around on their own or in small groups, but everyone else seemed to be all paired up.
I found myself walking aimlessly, weaving off the main street and into one of the estates that I hadn't previously explored before, thoughts of the day still on my mind. I almost hadn't noticed when I wasn't alone on the street anymore. Elise. She's a Ravenclaw in my year. I'd had many lessons with her, and worked on a couple of projects with her, too. I think it was safe to say that we were friends.
We talked for a while, discussing the day and the implications of it. It seemed that I wasn't the only one trying to escape from the mass of romance permeating the air that day. Somehow, we ended up on the topic of kissing, both admitting that it was something that neither of us had done before, yet both wanted to do.
I think it was me who came up with the crazy idea that we should kiss so that we'd know what it was like next time. Strangely enough, Elise agreed. It was an awkward sort of kiss considering we were thirteen and had no idea what we were doing, but that wasn't the point. We'd kissed. That was what was important.
It was completely platonic and never mentioned again after that day, and we went back to just being friends as if nothing had ever happened, and that was probably a good thing. Still, it was a pretty good end to the day.
Kiss Number One: Completed

Second SuccessI'd half expected that, only being in third year, that one kiss with Elise would be the only one I'd get that year. I mean, how many thirteen year olds could even say that they'd kissed someone? I considered myself lucky just for that, but it seemed like I was going to get lucky twice in one year.
Several months passed and by that point, I was fourteen and even more of a rebel than ever. The Marauders were pulling off at least one big prank a week with several smaller ones in between. We were also getting a lot of detentions, as expected.
It was one Friday towards the end of third year... All four of us had been separated during detention, each in a different room with a different professor. I'd been stuck with McGonagal, and there'd been another girl in there too. A Hufflepuff this time. I knew her fairly well, too - Jessica. She was always quiet except from when Quidditch was involved, then she was the loudest, most dedicated fan you could ever meet.
McGonagal was called away to deal with some commotion that Peeves was stirring up, leaving us alone. Jessica had been really talkative, babbling on and on about Quidditch and how she wanted to do this that and the other, and it seemed like her plan in life was to marry a famous Quidditch player when she was older, but when she was a bit older and still in school she'd already decided that she would only date Quidditch players.
Then, out of the blue, she'd leaped out of her seat and ran over to me, her lips on mind before I'd known what was happening. She'd then admitted that she wanted her first kiss to be with someone who played Quidditch, and that she wanted to be someone elses first kiss too. I didn't have the heart to tell her that she was my second.
She'd skipped off quite happily after that detention. She'd gotten her Quidditch kiss, and I'd been left totally stunned. Two kisses! And I was still in third year. My future was looking bright. Kiss Two: Achieved.

Enlighten the PartyChrissy was my third kiss and it also came a whole lot sooner than I'd expected.
That summer had been host to one of the Ministry of Magic's infamous balls at which practically every pureblood would attend, and the families of most of the top workers who worked there. A huge ball room was created complete with drinks, buffet, live music, and numerous other things. While there were a lot of adults there, there were also lot of their kids there, too.
Usually I found the Ministry balls to be ridiculously boring, what with my dad dragging me around and making me introduce myself to endless numbers of 'influential people'. I mean, I know that it's important to make connections and all that, but then, I thought I was a bit young, and it was all a bit pointless.
Usually my mother wouldn't let me out of her site at those things, but I think there was something about being fourteen that made her a little less overbearing that night. I'd been allowed to go off and talk to some of the others who were my age there, and after about an hour there'd been a group of us between thirteen and sixteen who'd decided that enough was enough, and we all found an unused room to hide out in.
It was connected to the ballroom, so it wasn't like we'd gone far, but at least it was somewhere a bit out of the way where we didn't have to act all prim and proper and be formal all the time. We could just sit around on the floor and chat and stuff. We must have looked a right sight sitting there in out best clothes, mind.
Anyway, someone came up with the idea of playing truth or dare, and those dares very quickly lost their innocent streak. One of my dares was to kiss the girl on my right, and me being me, I did. How was I to know that her uncle was the minister?
Well, regardless of who she was, there was kiss three in the bag, and it hadn't even been six month yet!

Middle Name: ArroganceSo, I think all that kissing I'd been doing had really inflated my ego, making me twice as much of a rebel and ever more cocky and arrogant when I returned to Hogwarts for my fourth year. I'd started the year wondering what I would manage to achieve, and whether I'd get any more kisses soon. I got more than that.
Poppy Presswell was a girl that I knew fairly well from being in classes with her over the years. We were given a project in October that we had to work on and we ended up spending quite a lot of time together. Somewhere in that time, I decided that it would be a smart idea to ask her if she wanted to be my girlfriend. Yep, literally just like that. 'Do you want to be my girlfriend?' Looking back, it's cringe-worthy, but it worked because she'd said yes.
It was the kind of relationship that a lot of people that age have - the kind where you agree that you're 'going out' but then end up pretty much ignoring each other for a month and not really talking. It was her giggly group of friends that had started shoving her in my direction and insisting that we talk. Hogsmeade weekends came into play again. I managed to sneak an hour away from the Marauders to spend some time talking to Poppy.
By time December came around we were talking more and laughing quite a bit together, but there was still a level of awkwardness there, and we still hadn't kissed. Stupidly, I asked her outright if she wanted to and it just sent us back to square one with the awkward avoidances. As far as relationships go, it was absolutely terrible.
It didn't end well either, and that was entirely my fault...

Double TroubleChristmas that year meant a holiday in France with my parents, and boy was it a good holiday! We went somewhere different to where we usually go, but I had twice as much fun as I usually do.
There were a number of small homes to hire, but these homes were top notch and mega fancy, and there were quite a few on them in the area, this meant we were close by to other holiday goers. Good news for me, in the chalet across from us was a family from a different part of France. A family, with twin daughters my age.
They were called Zurie and Villette. Strange names, but they suited the two girls perfectly. I concluded then and there, French girls were hot. So was their accent, even though they didn't speak very much English. I'd never been more grateful for my parents making me learn french growing up as I was in that moment.
We were only there for a couple of weeks, but they became pretty good friends to me, and my parents and theirs got along really well together as well. One night, our parents met up with another couple who were there and the six of them started drinking and stuff, which left me and the twins to find our own entertainment.
The Marauder in me came out to play, and I found a way to sneak some alcohol for the three of us. We were rather drunk rather quickly, not quite realizing how powerful the stuff would be. Alcohol plus two hot girls equals a whole lot of snogging for me, and boysh were they good at it!
That was a brilliant Christmas, it really was, and I still keep in touch with them from time to time. I didn't go down to well with Poppy once she managed to find out about it, thanks to Sirius and his loud gob, so that was the end of that, but I certainly don't regret it. Christmas in France turned out to be the best yet.

Bad DecisionsSo, everything ended pretty badly between myself and Poppy, but I was at an age where I didn't really think things through, and I really didn't care all that much. All I knew was that I was a Marauder and a Quidditch player and the combination was gaining me a lot of attention, and I had this belief that I could have any girl I wanted at that time. One girl breaking up with me seemed insignificant, especially since I never even got to kiss her.
My naive belief had led me back in to Lily Evans, and I must have asked her out a dozen times a week for a while then. I got the same answer each and every time, but I had this big-headed, ego-fueled belief that she was just pretending and that she'd say yes sooner or later, she just wanted to play hard to get.
I suppose asking her out while snogging another girl probably didn't go down very well... Chloe was the year above me, but she was more than willing to join me in the broom cupboard for a bit of a snog. Up until that point, I'd only heard that people used the cupboards, but I'd never done it myself at that point. There's a first time for everything.
To say that we snogged in the broom cupboard would probably be a bit of an understatement. It was more of a full-on make out session, which was pretty damn hot. I won't say I didn't enjoy it though. It seems like being a year older gave Chloe a bit more of a wild streak than the girls my age.
It was tons of fun, that was until we stumbled out of the closed to see Lily standing there. She'd looked horrified, so I did the only thing I could think of and asked her out... Let's just say neither of them were particularly happy with me in that moment...

Coming Full CycleBefore I knew it, February was upon me again, and that came with the realization that I'd gone almost an entire year since my first kiss. And what had I achieved in that time? I'd kissed six different girls and had a girlfriend. Pretty impressive, huh? I sure as hell thought so.
That Valentine's Day, I was determined that I wasn't going to be going down to the village alone. I was going to find myself a date for the day. A proper date, seeing as what happened with Elise the previous year had been a completely coincidence where we'd just happened across each other in those streets.
This particular February, me and Sirius created a list. It was another over inflated ego thing, but we made a list of girls and rated them in different areas, totting up the scores. Still being in fourth year, there weren't really that many girls who were able to score particularly high on that scale, but of those that fell in the top ten, we would attempt to ask one of them out for the Hogsmeade weekend. We both succeeded.
I the day with a Hufflepuff girl, Marly. She was a smiley blond who had a little too much energy. She was pretty as hell, though as the day went on I realized that she fell squarely into the blond stereotype. She was as dumb as she could be and had no common sense at all. Part of me wanted to just leave already, but that would mean Sirius would win bragging rights, so I stuck around.
When I spotted Sirius heading down the street at the end of the day, I knew what was coming. We'd agreed to meet up and take the carriage back together, and 'discuss' AKA brag, about the day, so I knew I had to act fast. I'd grabbed Marly and kissed her quickly, thankful that she kissed me back, rather than freaking out, and... let's just say I think I looked the smuggest that whole journey back.
One year on, and I was still rocking this girls thing!

Break The StreakI noticed, after I'd stopped bragging that day, that a bit of a pattern had occurred. Maybe you've also picked up on it by now, but in one year, I'd kissed an awful lot of blondes. Now, some were air heads, but some weren't at all, but there was still a definite pattern coming out. The only exception to that were Jessica, but then, I hadn't instigated that kiss, it had been entirely her doing. Then there'd been Poppy, who wasn't blonde, but I didn't get to kiss her.
So, I wasn't exactly basing my judgement off a fair experience, but it seemed like blondes were more up for the snogging than any other hair color. So, I decided that I'd have to do a little more research and break away from the blondes a bit. I once again referred to the list that Sirius kept hidden in his drawer, and picked out another name from the list. Iris. She, I knew, was one smoking hot brunette, so I decided to risk my chances.
This next stoke of luck fell on my fifteenth birthday, where I managed to to corner, so to speak, and I somehow managed to convince her to give me a birthday kiss. It was terrible of me, I know, but at least I got to kiss her. She was always a really shy and quiet girl, but she agreed to it anyway, and I had to conclude then and there that blondes weren't the only damn good kissers around. I managed to steal a couple of kisses from her that day but she later made it quite clear that she didn't want anything more from it. Neither of us wanted a relationship, and she didn't want to get a reputation either, which I could sort of understand.
So that was the end of that, but it had been a pretty damn good birthday, and I decided that I'd have to test out a couple more brunettes and other hair colors before I made any sort of decision.
I still believed that a certain red-head, should she ever say yes, would top them all on the kissing scale.

CelebrationsMy next kiss came a little closer to the summer after a long day out on the pitch. Gryffindor completely smashed Slytherin to smithereens in one of the best, most action packed games that Hogwarts had seen all year, and ultimately, we won the Quidditch cup. Now, a successful Quidditch match almost always ends in a party, but this was a party to top all parties. We'd won the Cup, and it didn't get much better than that.
Those of us on the team were basked in all sorts of glory that night and I have to admit, I was happily lapping it up. I loved the attention. Besides, we were even more popular for once again sneaking in a whole ton of booze for people to drink - even more than we usually had at these kinds of parties.
While partying, I ended up dancing with a girl, a third year, I believe, but I'd drank so much that I really didn't care what age she was. She was quite happy to dance with me, and in the crowd that were packed into the common room, there wasn't a whole lot of space to be keeping a distance from each other. It didn't take long before i decided to take my chances and kiss her.
She seemed a little surprised at first, but then again, she was only a third year, but that surprise quickly wore off and she was quite happy to kiss me back. Now, my alcohol soaked memories are a bit hazy, but I'm pretty sure we ended up hogging the couch for quite a while that night. I couldn't have given a damn about what people thought - I was snogging a girl again, fairly making out with her even. Lucky her though, considering I had only had a proper make out session earlier in my fourth year. She had a head start.
I was sort of glad that Lily wasn't a party person and had long since left, because I don't think it was the sort of thing she'd appreciate seeing...

Summer LovingSummer came around again quickly, and my parents had, once again, planned another holiday to fill in a couple of weeks. Well, it wasn't so much a holiday as just a very important meeting that my dad had to go to, which meant me and my mum got to go along and spend time in China with him.
I don't know if any of you have been to China before, but some of those girls are cute beyond measure, and the I met there was all that and more. Her name was Suyin, and I'd could only have been there for a matter of hours before we met.
She was gorgeous and pretty damn amazing. I could have quite happily stayed there all summer if I could have. She took me to all sorts of places and showed me parts of China I'd only ever heard about in books. She taught me the culture and the language as best she could, and it was like living in a little bubble world, just me and her.
Does this sound too corny and mushy for you? Well, the ending isn't quite so cheery. We'd grown pretty close, but only to the point of a couple of hugs and stuff, nothing more than that. Then one evening before we went out separate ways we kissed, and I'd promised her that I'd meet her the next day. She'd been shy that perhaps I wouldn't like her after she was 'too forward' which seemed completely strange to me.
Well, that night my dad got an urgent message and we left for home at once, cutting our trip in China short. I didn't get a chance to say goodbye to Suyin. I felt pretty bad. She'd been worried that I wouldn't show up, and then I hadn't, because we'd left in the dead of the night. I'd tried writing to her but they're insanely strict about letters over there, and they... well, they never gave her mind.
Besides, I had other stuff to worry about that summer, such as Sirius coming live with us after his dick-prick parents kicked him out. Thoughts of China were quickly buried under the reality of life.

Bikini BazongasWell, in an attempt to push the memories of everything that had been going on aside, and as a general mind number, myself and Sirius headed off to a pool party that someone we knew was throwing, because, if nothing else, it would mean some hot, bikini clad girls. Well there was that, but we certainly got a lot more than we bargained for that day.
There were a lot of older people at the poll party, adults that is. The host had many of her friends over, all in their twenties and totally smoking hot. We didn't care that we were two of the youngest people there, we were surrounded by bikini's and that was awesome enough. Unlike most of the girls we went to school with, these women has real curves and the like. Hot.
I didn't expect anything would happen, but it seems some of those women had something different on their minds. I knew that one of them had approach Sirius, but I'd stopped paying attention when one approached me, too.
I probably shouldn't go into too many details here, but lets just say I'd never known a party that was quite so fun as that one. We stole away in a little corner of the pool, and boy was she strong willed! She knew what she wanted and how to get it. I don't think she even told me her name, but that was the last thing on my mind.
Everything I'd done before then had all been so innocent - kissing and a bit of making out now and again, but that was then and with girls my age, but this? It was an eye opener, I'll give it that.
Well, how to say this without saying too much... basically, her hands traveled to placed no hands had been before, and I say more skin that what I was used to seeing too. Her bikini top was practically none existent to start with, but... well. She looked better without it on.
That pool party was one heck of an experience, and by time I had to go back to school again, I was beginning to wonder about more than just kissing girls...
I knew what my new goal for the year was, and I couldn't wait!

Return JourneySeptember first marked my first day as a fifth year. A fifth year! Where has the last couple of years gone? Time was flying. I was no closer to getting Lily on my side either, and she didn't even appreciate me trying to congratulate her on becoming prefect. Surprise, surprise.
Well, anyway. We'd arrived at the station in good time and luckily for me, my parents had decided to say goodbye on the other side of the barrier, which became a good thing as I don't think they'd have liked seeing what happened next.
I was just standing on the platform, happily minding my own business, when out of the blue a girl strutted up to me, grabbed me, muttered a quick 'just go with it' in my ear, and kissed me full on the lips. She more than took my by surprise, I didn't have a clue what was going on. Before I knew what was happening she'd grabbed my hand and pulled me onto the train and away from the door. Then she disappeared off, leaving me stunned and a little confused.
I didn't think I'd ever get an explanation about what it was all about, but I was wrong. That night in the common room I saw here again. She was one of the seventh year girls, which explained why I didn't recognize her straight off. Apparently, her ex-boyfriend had followed her to the station because he didn't believe that she was telling the truth when she'd said she'd found someone else, and I was just the first parent-free guy she saw and decided I'd be a good choice.
I didn't know whether to feel flattered, or worried that some guy was going to start hunting me down for being with 'his girl'. I'd see two guys fighting over a girl before, and it didn't look like quite the sort of fight I wanted to get myself into.
Anyway, I got a quick thank you kiss off her for going along with it and not flipping out. It's all in days work, you know.

The Kissing KitchenFifth year appeared to be off to a very, very good start for me. I'd only just arrived at the school and hadn't even spent one night and I'd already kissed the same girl twice. Not a bad start. Is it any wonder than my ego was practically bursting at the seams?
In hindsight, I shouldn't have been quite so cocky and big-headed about things, but I couldn't help it then. It was just too much awesome to pass up. I was popular, which is what pretty much every guy wants to be in school. Things were going just right for me.
I'd only been back in school for a few days before I decided to take my first venture out after hours. I managed to avoid a couple of prefects thanks to my invisibility cloak, and slipped down to the kitchens for a midnight snack.
When I got in there though, I found that I wasn't alone. There was a Hufflepuff girl in there - a red head called Sophia. It was only then that I realized that even though I'd managed to explore a bit away from the blonde craze I originally went though, I'd never actually kissed a red head. Funny really, considering it was Lily who I still wanted the most. Then again, I guess there are less reds than any other color, but as soon as I saw Sophia I had a mission in mind.
We baked cookies. Yup, at one in the morning, we stood in the kitchens, and baked cookies... Hello, yes, my name is James Potter. Cookies... Yup. Why? I don't know. She was already mixing up some batter when I arrived, so I have no idea why she wanted to make them at that time of night? Why did I agree? Well, I had a mission in mind, and it seemed like a good way to get in her good books.
Let me tell you this, it worked. We talked a bit, then started flirting, though she was a bit reluctant and shy about that part at first, but she soon got used to it. By time the cookies were cooking I was being pretty brazen, and I pretty much just asked her straight out if I could kiss her... I think I told her that I'd never kissed a red-head before, and wanted to see if they were any good. She didn't think I was serious at first, which I told her I wasn't - I'm James (see what I did there?) and once she realized that, she agreed to it.
It was only a short kiss but it was sweet, and it was followed by cookies, so all was good. And, I'd achieved what I set out to do - I kissed a red-head. I had to say, all colors had their own appeal, but I still wanted Lily the most... someday.
Until then though, I had other goals in mind.
