Here's where you can apply for a position of Prefect, or Head Boy or Head Girl. Beware, these positions also come with extra responsibilities. It's the responsibility of Hogwarts Prefects to maintain any rule breakers within their own house: they can take house points away from fellow house-goers if they are caught misbehaving. They can even give detentions - but only to people in their own house. Prefects are also expected to patrol the corridors at night to ensure that nobody is out of bed after curfew.

Head Boys and Girls also have authority and responsibility. However, just because you're a prefect, doesn't mean that you'll automatically be considered for Head Boy or Girl. Head Boy and Girl can be chosen at random. They are chosen out of all of the seventh year students and are expected to lead the prefects, and in turn, the whole school.

Either way, both Prefects, Head Boy and Head Girl have access to the Prefects Bathroom - a special bathroom reserved just for their use.
