Frequently Asked Question
1. What year is it?
It’s currently summer 1976. The Marauders have just finished their 5th year at Hogwarts and they’re enjoying a fabulously plot filled summer before they return for their 6th year.1. How do the months work?We work on long month/short month rota, meaning that month lengths alternate between lasting 2 week and 4 weeks. Our ‘long months’ usually coincide with an event, such as Halloween, Christmas, Valentines, etc. Our short months are the months in between where there’s no big occurances. See the ‘Month Changes’ for more details.1. Can my characters ‘get it on’ in the broom closet, or anywhere?Read the rules. No, of course they can’t – not unless you use the ‘face to black’ method and don’t get graphic about it. Proboards is PG-13, and this site is no exception. That stuff happens, but we don’t want to read about it.1. Can my character get pregnant? If you think it would be an interesting plot line then PM an admin and we can discuss it. Obviously there are limits to this – such as Lily Evans isn’t going to have a baby when she’s 15, and Severus Snape isn’t going to be running around with a brood of screaming toddlers as a result of a spree of one-night stands, so keep it reasonable!1. Why are these questions all numbered 1?Because the admin writing this overuses the Ctrl+C shortcut and is an idiot that forgot to edit the numbers. So sue me!6. How do I earn House Points? There are a ton of ways to earn housepoints! Even just by signing up you’ve earned some points. Each new character gets 5 points for their house, and then after that, the more posts you have, the more points you earn. We call these milestones – over 25 posts, over 50 posts, over 100 posts...etc. You get points for each new milestone you pass! These are updated every couple of weeks. You also get housepoints if you win a place in one of the ‘Of The Month’ awards. Also, each completed thread earns points too – so don’t forget to post in the ‘Completed a Thread?’ board to collect them! Teachers and Prefects are also allowed to take and give housepoints as they see fit, but they need to PM an admin with detail of who, where, why, and link the thread so we can check it’s reasonable!7. How many characters can I have?Look in the rules! You can keep as many as you can keep track of. If that means you only have one character, then only have one. If you can keep up with 10 then go for it by all means! Just make sure you keep all your characters as active as possible8. How old do my characters need to be to join The Order/ become a Death Eater? There’s nothing really mentioned in canon, but generally we say that to join the Order you must be 17 or older, and to join the Death Eaters over 15. If you’re younger than these ages, then you can still be aligned with that side, and support them, but you won’t be drafted into secret meetings and such.9. What’s going on with Voldemort and Dumbledore? Both Lord Voldemort and Professor Dumbledore are classes as plot devices on here, which means they aren’t just owned by one player. If you need to use one of them for a plot then PM an Admin and ask for the password, or ask an admin if they’ll RP him for you! As well as this, there will be random and regular plots made by them which anyone can join in.10. What’s up with The Professor?Professors can be pretty important to plots, especially since this is set in a school, but Professors seem to be jinxed on here and never last long. So, as an alternative, we created an account simply known as ‘The Professor’ who can be used to represent any professor or adult in Hogwarts necessary for a plot. Alike above, there will be random plots/threads started up with them that anyone can join. If you have an idea, check out The Professors Plot Page! If you wish to sign up using a Professor account then feel free, then are still allowed and welcomed!11. Peeves? The schools’ nefarious trouble maker. He’s pretty much the same as what The Professor it. He’s there to mix things up a bit and add some drama around the school. Voldemort and Dumbledore post plots more specific to order members/death eaters, but there are some students who don’t fit either category or members who don’t want to be involved in threads like that, so Peeves is a plot started that those members/characters can get involved with! He’s likely to trap students in the broom closet or lock them in a classroom full of flying objects. He just generally causes trouble. If you have ideas for him, again, post in his Plot Page!
