Rules!
Yes, rules suck. But they are necessary. And we have some. We’ll try and keep them brief but please make sure you read them and before joining, and keep abiding by them after you have joined us. It might even be a good idea to keep coming back and refreshing your memory on what our rules are. From time to time they do change, things like the codeword you need in your application will vary from time to time, so keep up-to-date!

Characters
There are no limits here on the number of characters that you can have. If you can only keep up with three, then only make three. If you can keep up with ten, then kudos to you, but only make ten. If you can’t keep up with all of your characters for some reason and can’t keep them all active then consider dropping who you don’t use. Every goes through times when they struggle with a characters, such as someone else has left the site and you feel there’s no one there to post with anymore, but try and find an open thread and see what new relationship arise! If that doesn’t work, really think about whether you’re going to keep using them or not.
Activity
We only ask for a minimum of one in-character post per week, though more is preferred. We don’t ask for 20 posts a day or anything as extreme as that, but try not to keep others waiting around for weeks at a time for replies. If you are going to be away, leave a message in the absences board so we know why! We will have Activity Checks in every ‘short month’ on the site. See the FAQ for more details! Posts in the Out Of Character boards don’t count either.
Face Claims
Check the Face Claim before you post your application! There’s nothing worse than making a character based around a specific face only to be told that you can’t use that person after all! If you are playing a canon then make sure the face claim matches the description of that canon. For example, there’s no point using a character with blond hair if you’re playing James Potter, or one with Red hair if your character is blond, know what we’re saying? Keep it relevant.
Canon
We’re a Marauder Era RP forum, meaning Harry, Ron and Hermione haven’t even been thought of yet, never mind born, so they’re obviously not going to be around. Similarly, Edward Cullen and Sam Winchester don’t exist here, nor does Rachel Berry, so... just don’t. Also, no making up canons that don’t exist. You’re not Remus Lupin’s great uncle from America, or Lucius Malfoy’s estranged cousin from New Zealand. Keep them real.
Godmode
You’ll find this everywhere – don’t godmode anyone. At all. If you do wish to, PM the other person in advance and ask them if they’re okay with what you intend to do. Everyone gets a choice in what happens to their character, so don’t take that choice away from them.
Mary and Gary
Everyone has flaws. Everyone. Even you. Even Dumbledore. Even your kickass Slytherin b*tch who thinks she can rule the world. Yup, even her. Basically, no Mary Sue or Gary Stu characters – they’re unoriginal, no one likes them, and they’re just plain annoying. If we think your application sound too Mary or Gary we’ll ask you to change it and give them a few faults.
Respect

Admins
We do our best and we listen to what you have to say, but sometimes what you ask for just isn’t practical. If we say no to something, it’s for a reason, so please try to respect any decision made by the Admins – we said it for a reason.
Members
Respect each other. You’re characters may fight and hate each other, but that doesn’t mean you have to flame each other too (Congrats! The codeword is ‘Fawkes’!). If you’re having trouble with another member PM an admin and we’ll try and help. If you’re sound insulting another member in any way then you’ll either get a warning or a temporary ban. Make racist or homophobic comments or threaten someone, and that ban might just be permanent. You’ve been warned.
Guests
If a guest is asking comments in the cbox don’t disrespect them. Similarly, if they’re asking for help or information on the site try and help them, but if you don’t know the answer then don’t just make something up. Direct them to an admin, or link them to a page than can help them. But basically, dear members, don’t scare the guesties away!
Rating

Site rating
All proboards sites have a PG-13 rating. This means that all content found one the site needs to be suitable for someone age 13 to read. If content breaks the PG-13 rating then the site risks being shut down. We don’t want that, so try and keep it reasonable. If you don’t know whether it’s breaking PG-13, the fact you actually have to question it suggests it probably is, so... ya know...
Swearing
Limit it. Everyone swears, it’s part of life and part of our language, but don’t make a habit of swearing a dozen times in one post. We’re not as strict about swearing on here as we used to be, but there are several swear words that will automatically change themselves if you post them, usually adding an ‘*’ in place of the vowel: Sh*t.
Woohoo’ing
You know that whole PG-13 thing? It applies here. You wouldn’t want a 13 year old opening up and page and finding out all the scrubby details about how babies are made, so keep it behind closed door, people. Use the ‘fade to black’ method. It sucks, we know, and we all hate it, but it must be done. Similarly, keep all graphic content to a minimum. Things get gory, sure, but we don’t need the explicit detail.
And There You Have It!
They are our basic rules here on Alohomora
Please abide by these rules and if you have any questions
or queries about anything said here then as an Admin!
If you’re caught disobeying the rules you’ll get hung by your
thumbs in the dungeons, but you’ll get a warning first!
Have fun and happy posting!
