Emily wasn't sure what to do. Part of her didn't want to return to the castle and remain cooped up but she also didn't see the point of going to the party just over the hill, it wasn't as though she would be much fun. Sighing softly, the blonde Gryffindor hovered on the path between Hogsmeade and where the party was being held, trying to decide what to do. In fact she'd been stood deliberating over the decision for 20 minutes now and was still no closer to figuring it out.
Really it shouldn't be this hard. The party was breaking every rule the school had set in place for this weekend. Usually Emily hated breaking the rules but had been known to do just that on certain occasions. However that had been with Lachie or Chase. The thought of both boys sent a spark of pain through Emily and she had to close her eyes tightly to fend off the tears that threatened to start. Shaking her head she sighed softly and leant against a near by wall.
Lachlan had been taken out of school soon after Rio Connors death by his parents and had gone away. Where, Emily didn't know because since he'd left he hadn't been in touch. Chase, well Chase had finally gone back home with his Mum and Sister and Emily hadn't seen him since. It had been over a month now and she hadn't seen, or heard from her boy-friend, not since the roof of Hogwarts. Not since he'd said 'I love you'. Had he meant that? Or was it just a way to get her to move, or not follow him.
Of course she had sent letters, to both him and Risa. The little girl was the only one to respond. Right now Emily wasn't even sure if her and Chase were a couple anymore. He needed time and she understood that, Risa never said much, so Emily was doing her best to be patient even though it was killing her. Just a reply, just one reply that's all she wanted to know he was okay, but nothing ever came.
Shaking her head, Emily pushed up from the wall and took five whole steps towards the party. Going to the party, drinking, it'd be a good way to forget her troubles for a while. Then again, she didn't believe in drinking away your problems. No good ever came from that. So sighing softly she finally made her decision and turned on her heel, determined to leave only to go crashing into someone else. "Oh my...I am so sorry..." Emily gasped, her hand reaching out just in case the other person needed steadying.

Liander waited until the door had swung shut behind him and the latch had fallen into place before he turned and flopped against it, closing his eyes and rubbing his hands roughly over his face, before sliding them into his hair and gripping hard. The sharp pain of it was enough to make him let out the breath he'd been holding, and in that moment, his shoulders slumped in defeat. What had honestly possessed him to go home today? Most people only saw their families at Christmas and settled for letters between then, so why, honestly, had he decided it would be a good idea to sneak in an extra trip home?
More like, what had he expected to be any different than normal? He was always and forever going to be the black shade of the family, and there was little chance of that ever changing. In fact, there was zero chance of that ever fading if his parents ever found out the truth. His biggest secret...
Sighing again, Liander moved away from the house and wound his way through the familiar paths that led back to the center of Hogsmeade. There were both advantages and disadvantages of living so close to home, and knowing the backstreets was definitely an advantage. Most students stayed on the main road and the shops there. Very few ever ventured further away.
Living so close, Liander was also very aware of where and when all the local parties were, and although he wasn't too much of a party person himself, he'd showed his face once or twice. He knew which were the okay parties and which were the 'underground' style ones that were best avoided. So knowing that, he knew that there'd be a whole load of students heading over to the usual Easter weekend bash in the valley. And where better for somewhere to chill out a little after a hard day? He wasn't usually much of a partier, but he was willing to make an exception right now. Who knew, he might even bump into...
No. No. He wouldn't let his mind go there. He was straight, and completely uninterested, and Liander refused point blank to let himself fall in any way, shape, or form, for a straight guy. Something like that could only end badly.
Up ahead, Liander could see a blond head hovering on the path that would lead to the party, though he couldn't make out who she was from here. She looked torn between whether to go to the party or whether to turn around and go back. As he neared she started walking forward as if going to the party. That was her decision sorted then. Liander stopped concentrating and looked down, checking what was in his pockets to make sure everything important was secure.
What he wasn't expecting, was for just seconds later a body to connect with his. His arms went up automatically to grab the arms of the person, though thankfully, the blond haired girl didn't have nearly enough strength in the collision to send him flying in quite the same way as what happened in the Quidditch changing room not so long ago with Noah. No, again, forget him.
"Sorry, my bad. I wasn't watching where I was going." Wasn't this the girl who, just seconds before, he'd watched walk towards the party? How come she was going in the opposite direction now? "Are you okay?"

Emily gasped, feeling the steadying hands on her arms, just like hers on the other person. Luckily though neither of them fell over, which was a major plus in Emily's mind, she really would have felt guilty then. Brushing her hair from her face she looked up into the face of a blonde boy and didn't recognize him. Sure she'd seen him around and was almost positive he was Hufflepuff but that was as far as her knowledge on him went. Smiling softly she shook her head and waved her hand, "No it was my fault, loitering on the path, I should have been watching where I was going I'm sorry." she said softly, giving him a sheepish smile.
"Are you okay?"
She smiled again and nodded her head, "Still in one piece..." she joked playfully, feeling strange doing so. She almost felt guilty for doing it, considering what was happening with Chase, she frowned and shook her boy-friend from her thoughts, ignoring the horrible sensation in her stomach. "What about you are you okay..." she trailed off realizing she didn't know his name so stuck out her hand, "Emily Prescott...sorry for almost knocking you flat." she joked again, though it didn't hold any weight.

Liander looked at the blonde trying to work out what he knew about her, which wasn't a lot. But then, considering that he could never remember anyone's names anyway, he wasn't all that surprised. He felt like he recognized her from somewhere but he wasn't entirely sure where... wait... didn't she have something to do with that boy... Chase? Yeah that was it - the boy in the Great Hall. Wasn't this the same blonde haired girl who'd ran out after him the day he'd received that awful news? He was pretty sure it was, though that didn't help him remember her name or anything. Gryffindor though, he was almost sure of that.
"You should been watching? I was staring down at my feet, I think the blame is on me." he grinned, the asked if she was okay. "I'm glad. I wouldn't want to be the one to carry you back to school in bits. I think there'd be a little too much explaining to do."
He stepped away and watched as emotions seemed to flicker across her face, going from the playful grin to something that looked a whole lot more sinister. Liander frowned. "Liander Hughes, and I'm definitely not convinced you're okay. Something is on your mind." Though that something probably wasn't anything she was willing to talk to someone she'd just met over, so he better not push the issue.

"You should been watching? I was staring down at my feet, I think the blame is on me."
Emily smiled softly and shrugged her shoulders, tucking a lock of her blonde hair back behind her ear. "Well I think we both need to watch were we're going in the future..." she said with a light smile that didn't really touch her eyes. This guy was nice which of course made sense considering the house he was in, it almost seemed wrong to see him out here alone. At his comment about having to carry her back to the school in bits she laughed slightly and nodded her head in agreement, that would be a bit much to explain.
"Liander Hughes, and I'm definitely not convinced you're okay. Something is on your mind."
Emily smiled and nodded her head, though immediately stopped when he commented that he wasn't convinced she wasn't okay and that there was something on her mind. Emily bit her lip and had to wonder if she was that transparent. Blowing out a breath she shrugged her shoulders and looked up at Liander, "Your right. I'm not okay. I do have something, or more precisely someone on my mind but I don't want to bore you..." she said softly, shooting him a smile. Glancing over her shoulder towards the hill the party was being held she nodded to Liander, "After all you look like you were heading that way, to the party before I...well...before we both almost killed each other." she finished with a smile, wringing her hands together.

"Your right. I'm not okay. I do have something, or more precisely someone on my mind but I don't want to bore you..."
Emily sent a smile his way but it didn't reach her eyes. She looked away down the path before looking back at him.
"After all you look like you were heading that way, to the party before I...well...before we both almost killed each other."
Liander shook his head. "Only because I couldn't think of anything else to do. And somehow a drink sounded like a good solution to too many problems." His mind drifted for a moment as faces flashed through his mind - his younger brother, his parents... Noah... There were too many things on his mind right now, but alcohol probably wasn't the smartest solution of all.
Liander look back to Emily and narrowed his eyes slightly. "I'm guessing by someone you mean a certain fifth year Hufflepuff who's not in school at this moment?" If he could've remembered the boys name he would have used it but, as normal, he couldn't. "I'm all ears if you want to talk about it?" He didn't know how much help he could be, but sometimes just talking about it was enough, right?

"Only because I couldn't think of anything else to do. And somehow a drink sounded like a good solution to too many problems."
Emily laughed softly and nodded her head, she herself had had the same idea, though in the end had decided against it. Emily knew alcohol did nothing to solve problems, nothing whatsoever so why even bother. She would much rather return to the castle, gorge on the sweets she'd purchased today, curl up in her bed and lose herself in one of the books her Mother had sent to her, either that or hole up in the library and study some more. Though lately that was all she'd been doing, and there was only so much information the brain was able to take in before it refused to accept anymore for a while. "It does have that appeal but, probably not the best thing to do. Pigging out is a much better though not healthy option." she said with a small smile.
At his comment she smiled sadly and sighed before nodding her head, looking past his shoulder briefly. "Yeah Chase. My boy-friend well...I think he's still my boy-friend, we haven't really talked in a while..." she confirmed, ignoring the stabbing sensation in her chest. She looked at Liander and nodded her head. "That'd be great." Of course she barely knew him but perhaps this was what she needed. Someone unbiased. Separated from the issue to talk to and she'd return the favor. He had something on his mind like her, "Tell you what, I'll tell you whats on my mind, and share whats on yours...something tells me you need someone to talk to as much as I do...what do you say?" she asked softly.

"It does have that appeal but, probably not the best thing to do. Pigging out is a much better though not healthy option."
Liander grinned and nodded. "Yeah, I'm usually more of a hot chocolate and marshmallows person than a drinker, so..." He didn't mind some sugary comfort, either, and it was starting to feel really appealing to him right then.
It seemed like Liander had hit the nail right on the head. It was the 5th year boy that was on her mind, just as he'd expected it would be. It'd been about two month now, hadn't it?
"Tell you what, I'll tell you whats on my mind, and share whats on yours...something tells me you need someone to talk to as much as I do...what do you say?"
Liander looked down at his feet for a second, surprised he'd been that transparent. Well, he did say he was going to the party to drink away problems, so that probably did it. There didn't seem to be many people he could talk to, and it always seemed like there was too much that he couldn't, or shouldn't say, and it just... It made the world feel like a very lonely place at times.
He glanced at the path behind him and let his eyes drift back in the direction of the village. There was still quite a while before the carriages would be there to take students back up to the school, and he quite frankly couldn't be bothered to walk it, like many students would. "Tell you what, how about we head back down to the village and sit in Puddifoots? We'll be able to see when the carriages get down here, and there's plenty of time for something stuffed with sugar. It's got to be warmer than standing out here, right?"
There was usually a lot of stig surrounded the coffee shop in question, and it was usually seen as the 'couples' place, but having grown up in Hogsmeade Liander knew that that really wasn't the case, and there were no such rules in that place, it was purely a Hogwarts Student rumor that it was an entirely romantic venue. "Sound good?"
