go to sleep with the pressure of everyone WATCHING AND WAITING THEY'RE YOURS FOR THE TAKING BUT I STILL HAVE MY DOUBTS
By now, most of the Ravenclaw population had long since learnt that you needed to keep one eye open and have your wits about you if you didn't want to fall victim to the next LearyBro prank whilst in the common room.
The two boys were notorious for the pranking and jokester ways and while most of their pranks were completely harmless, they had the ability to dint one's ego and leave them a little embarrassed. Until their next victim came along.
Of course, while most students kept their eyes open and their wits about them, there were a select few who didn't, and were the ones who were most likely to fall into their traps. Some pranks were just generally unavoidable, like the one Ash was planning now, but the unsuspecting victim was likely to be one of the careless few. Or he could be surprised. Who knew what would happen?
One thing Ash loved about pranking in the common room was that you never knew who was going to get in the way and take the brunt of it. They could try for a more specific target but there was always so much room for deviation...
The idea for this evening was decidedly muggle, but Ash didn't mind. There was something so much more fun about taking something muggle and giving it a magical / Leary twist to it.
Like water over a door!
With a grin and a quick look around to make sure that no one was around, he levitated the bucket of iced water so that it hovered just over the entrance way and used a sort of sticking charm to balance it in place, not touching the door, but where it would be affected should the door open.
Anyone leaving the tower would no doubt spot the bucket balancing there, but coming in? There was no way of seeing it from the outside.
Ash wandered over near to the stairs and hid behind a tall unit that was next to it. From there, he could see the reflection of the door in the mirror across the room while staying out of site. All he had to do now was wait...

[ It had been a long day and Kingsley was more than ready to collapse on his bed and cease any and all thought about anything. Normally he liked having his common room up in the tower. But today he found himself cursing as he made his way up all those staircases. Needles to say he was kind of tired and not in the best moods when he finally arrived at the door. He pushed it open with a resigned sigh...and was suddenly drenched in ice cold water. "what the- -" He whipped his wand out, pointing it around the room, looking for the culprit, which he found. It was a bucket. He realized he must look pretty stupid standing there dripping wet with his wand out like he'd been attacked. He quickly straightened and stuffed his wand back inside his robes, trying to pretend nothing had happened while looking to see if anyone noticed. He looked down at the bucket again. Buckets didn't just levitate in front doors and the drop when somebody walked through. He cast his eyes around the common room again, only this time he was looking for someone in particular. Or rather, someones. "Alright." he said loudly, still looking around. " You got me, haha funny. Water above the door., did;t see that one coming" When no one said anything, he dropped the fake cheery voice a little. "Okay the jokes up."still nothing, he was starting to lose patience. Which one of you was it?" It had to be one of them,or both, no one else would bother to put water above the door. He was starting to shiver a little bit, why had they/he used such cold water? Why couldn't it have been lukewarm? Though he supposed it could have been worse, they/he could have used scalding.

Ash heard the familiar click and swoosh of the door, followed by an exclamation. From where he stood he could see the person standing with their wand aimed at the bucket and he had to cover his mouth with his hands to stop himself snorting a laugh. Listening carefully, Ash pressed his himself back as far as he could to stay out of sight. That voice sounded familiar... It belonged to that 4th year, didn't it? The... what was he called? Kinney? Kingston? ... Kingsley? That was it!
Standing silently he could hear Kingsley growing impatient at the lack of response he was getting. Ash couldn't help but be somewhat amused though. So he expected it was one of them did he? Well it would have been a right surprise if it had turned out to be someone else who had set it up... Damn... If only he were a little better at human transfiguration he could have transfigured himself to look like one of the other students...
Now that was something he was definitely going to have to keep in mind for a later date.
Kingsley kept talking and Ash tried as hard as he could to stay silent, but failed. The laugh he'd been trying to fight back broke free and little and no matter what he did he couldn't stop the sniggers. Oh well. If he's stayed silent he'd still have been seen when Kingsley went to go up the stairs towards his dorm, so he'd have been found out either way.
This should be good...

Still nothing. A curse passed through Kingsley lips, which was weird since he never swore. He was just about to give up and head up to the dormitory, cautiously with his wand out, when he heard someone snigger.
He slowly rotated in that direction, falling silent as he listened for more. He cocked his head to the side a bit, if it was one of them then they were in the path he would have to take to get into his dorm anyway. He bent down and picked up the bucket, before walking in the that direction as quietly as possible. He reached the place that he suspected the culprit was hiding behind and slowly peered around.
Not to his surprise he found Ashton Leary, the younger brother, with a clearly amused expression on his face.
A part of Kingsley wanted to hex him, or get even in some fashion, or at least dump some of his pent up feelings on the guy. But he knew it hadn't been personal, as Ashton didn't know him well enough to play a prank on him specifically, he thought. Anybody could have walked through that door, it was just an unlucky coincidence for both of them that it had been him. That and Ashton was a year older and could probably take Kingsley.
So, forcing away all of his frustration and resentment he held out the bucket and said it what he hoped was a controlled voice, "I think this belongs to you."

He'd been heard. He knew it. The silence that followed told him that and Ash found it so hard to try and keep himself from making any more noise. It didn't take long before footsteps headed in his direction and he turned to look at the younger boy as he came into sight.
Kingsley held the bucket towards him. Ash could clearly see the flicker of emotions across his face and he couldn't quite decide whether he was about to receive a hex or not. He'd received his fair share of hexes over the years for his pranking.
He looked down at the bucket. "Feel free to keep it. Consider it a souvenir."

Kingsley could feel his irritation evaporating like boiling hot water. The only way he would have been able to hex Ashton is if he had seen him right after the incident, and probably not even then. Kingsley just wasn't that kind of person. He refused, however temtping it might be, to act on that fiery anger that came too easily and without rationality. It was perhaps his greatest strength.
But what wasn't his strenght was understanding. Which was why, though no longer angered by this event, he still viewed some of Ashton's other endeavors, and therefore Ashton, with contempt.
He kept this hidden though, and instead replied, "right." He glanced down at the bucket in his hand, his eyeborws kniting together. What the hell was he supposed to do with it? Maybe he could practice vanishing on it...that was the best he could come up with at the moment.
Now that all of that had been settled he felt his original exhaustion return in full force. "Well, see ya." he mumbled, turning up the stairs, but then an idea hit him. He turned back around the face Ashton.
"You didn't, set anything else up did you?" The last thing he needed right now was to walk into his dorm and get covered in dragon dung or something.

Ash shrugged. "Well...you never know when a bucket might come in handy." Which actually, was quite true, though it would be no good to retell the story of that winter when it rained to much that the roof in the Ravenclaw tower started to leak, but no one had dared go out after curfew to find someone to help out. In fact, no one seemed to have the guts to knock on the 7th year dorm to ask the head boy, who'd been a Ravenclaw that year, either. But that had happened in Ash's first year, and Shacklebolt was the year below him. He probably wouldn't even believe him if he said their roof had leaked. Not in a school full of magic, anyway.
There seemed to be a strange sort of silence hanging in the air between them before Kingsley finally muttered a goodbye and turned towards the stairs. By that point, Ash was already wondering if maybe he should set the whole bucket thing up again as wait and see who came through the door next...
He'd zoned out so much that it took him a few seconds to catch on to the fact that Kingsley was talking to him, and he flung around to face him, eyes widening. "Huh?" What had he said? Something up? Oh! Set something up? Ash laughed. Well, at least the kid was cautious. "Usually I would but that only seems to work if I know who's falling victim. You just have the lucky coincidence of walking through that door at the wrong time. So no. There's nothing to worry about." As for the next person who walked through the entrance door though... they might have something to worry about.

Kingsley barely heard his reply. He was already dreaming of his nice, soft, comfortable, bucket/water free bed. Not to mention warm, and quiet. But he did have that one concern.
He snorted, "You've got that right." It was just kind of interesting that he voiced the exact thing Kingsley had been thinking, even though as he thought about it he decided it really wasn't that unlikely. It also wasn't that important.
He was about to move but something held him in place. he looked over at Ashton curiously, trying to decide if he was lying. It would be just like those prankster types to tell him that just to get him off his guard. He wasn't exactly being discreet about his doubt, so he might be creeping Ashton out, though he didn't really care. He eyed him for a bit longer, though either he couldn't read pranksters faces or he wasn't as good at reading people as he thought.
"You're for sure." he said, "There really is nothing else?." He paused waiting for him to reply. "Your not just lying to me." He again waited for a reply. "I'm going to walk up these stairs and make it all the way to my dorm and nothing weird is going to happen?"

Kingsley kept staring at him, and Ash kept staring back, though it was growing increasingly harder. He wasn't intimidated or scared by the 4th year, but that weird, unblinking stare was getting a little bit off-putting. Ash found his gaze drifting just an inch or so higher than his eyes, so that he was looking at Kingsley's eyebrows, rather than directly into his eyes.
"There really is nothing else?."
Ash shook his head. "Nothing else."
"Your not just lying to me."
"No lies." Talk about being mistrustful! Jeeze it was one bucket of water!
"I'm going to walk up these stairs and make it all the way to my dorm and nothing weird is going to happen?"
Ash rolled his eyes dramatically. "Seriously kid, what's with the twenty questions here?"He laughed shortly, before sighing, holding both hands up in a surrendering type of way, palms facing the younger boy. "You are going to walk up these stairs and make it all the way to your dorm and nothing weird is going to happen." He repeated his words back to him again. "Happy now?"
You know, all this was making him really, really, want to prank him again. After all of the intense questioning it would be rather amusing to play another trick on him last minute. Seriously, Ash couldn't remember anyone ever staring him out and repeating the same question over and over in the way Kingsley had. It was actually really amusing and totally deserving of another prank... totally...

Kingsley sighed, he supposed he was being pretty annoying, but he didn't care. He didn't say anything in response to Ashton's question, he wasn't even looking at him. he just shrugged and said, "It's been a long day," his voice revealing his weariness. without another word or glance for Ashton he made his way up the stairs.
He supposed he believed Ashton about the whole tricking thing. He hadn't really thought there'd been another one anyway, he just been overly cautious. It was one of his weaknesses, and it got worse when he was tired or stressed. He shook his head and sighed again. It didn't matter now, as he doubted Ashton really cared all that much, and he'd reassured him that there was nothing more to worry about. Maybe he was being stupid, but he really did trust him on that, or he was just too tired not too.

Kingsley had looked away from him and he looked pretty tired and weary, but, he didn't question Ash anymore about whether there were any more pranks awaiting him. Still, no matter how he looked, Ash was still worked up and in the pranking mood, and he still felt that after all the staring out and persistant questioning, he definitely needed to think up another prank, and fast... but what?
He watched as Kingsley began to make his way up the stairs, head down, and a memory came to mind. What was that spell that Rhoan had used on that poor, unsuspecting 1st year? Oh yeah!
Ash pulled out his wand and very quietly muttered the incantation that made the stairs move, so that with each step up Kingsley took, he staying in the say place about half way up, never going any further. Of course, it wouldn't last for very long before he realized it but it at least gave Ash a change to think of something to do.
But... what could he do? It wasn't like he could go ahead of him and set something up or whatever... whatever he did he had to be able to do from where he stood... There were the obvious things... dung bombs...stink bombs... even water balloons but they'd be pretty useless since Kingsley was already soaked from the bucket that fell...
Ash stuck his hands into his pockets hoping to find something in there. He usually carried around some pretty strange and prank-worthy stuff. Tonight was no different. He pulled out a packet with an off-white power in and grinned at it. He'd been meaning to sprinkle some of it into his roommates bed to get 'revenge' for the other boy stealing his homework a few week earlier, but that could wait...
Kingsley Shacklebolt. A bag of itching powder. And a reason to prank. Now what to do with it...
Ash crept a few steps closer to the bottom of the stairs, glad that Kingsley didn't seem to have noticed that he wasn't moving yet. Popping open the bag Ash tried to levitate some out of it and conjured a light breeze to carry the powder up the stairs. A breeze in the tower wasn't uncommon, so it wouldn't seem suspicious, and the powder would disperse and just cover his lightly, no doubt getting to the skin at the back of his neck and head, probably even his lower arms. All pretty normal places to feel a little itchy.
The best thing about this particular itching powder? It took a while before it really began to work, and so it mean Kingsley should be well into his dorm before the worst of it began to kick in. And Ash could escape to his own room and be safely away. A subtle but certain plan. Perfect.

Kingsley had already forgotten about the whole affair and was just thinking about sleep. He wasn't really looking ahead of him, but rather at the stairs in front of him. So he wasn't exactly paying attention but he was sure he should be reaching the top soon, just a little bit longer. Just a bit more, just a bit more? Shouldn't he be there already? Nope, guess it was a little bit more. But no, he should really be there by now. His eyes flicked up, and then he suddenly straightened, staring up the stairs, aghast. he hadn't moved! but, but how...
He slowly turned around to face Ashton. He didn't usually get pissed off, but he was, right now. Still, he took a deep breath and forced his face and body to remain composed.
"Okay," he said, speaking slowly and articulately as though that would somehow help him control his temper. "As—interesting—as this whole eternal staircase thing is, if you could fix it, like now, that would be much appreciated." His voice was very stiff, but other than that he'd thought he'd done a pretty good job of not exploding.

Ash stood, watching in amusement as the 4th year started up the stairs, head down. How long would he go on before he realized that he wasn't getting anywhere? Clearly long enough. The amusement was obvious on his face as he once again fought not to laugh out loud.
Kingsley straightened suddenly after he'd glanced up, then he turned slowly to face Ash again. Ash tried to quickly wipe all amusement from his face and looked off to one side as if he wasn't paying any attention to the younger boy any more. Of course, being the only one here there was only him to take the blame.
The tempered annoyance in his voice was impossible to miss, and Ash knew for certain that this kid was never going to trust a word that came out of his mouth again, not that that bothered him.
"Easiest way to end it is to get off it, wait a minute, then go up again. Simple."
That wasn't the easiest way - Ash could easily just flick his wand and stop it, but he didn't need to tell Kingsley that.
Now how much longer till the itching powder kicked in?

Kingsley gave him a look that said quite plainly, "Are you kidding me?" But he wasn't about to argue. He turned around in a huff, mumbling curses under his breath, which was odd since her never swore. He slammed down on the bottom step with unnecessary force. Something in his back reacted to that and he found his hand reaching back almost involuntarily to grab it. The next second though, the feeling was gone. He pulled his back slowly, feeling slightly confused. he couldn't have just imagined that his back itched, could he? Well, he was pretty tired, so he supposed it was possible.
Shaking his head and muttering again he continued his way up. He'd was pretty fed up by this point, but he made each step strong and slow to make it seem like he wasn't bothered at all.
He tried to avoid looking at Ashton as passed him, but he couldn't stop himself from giving the guy a sidelong glance, before shaking his head and continuing up. He couldn't believe it when he'd finally reached the top. he was going to go to sleep and forget this whole, and with any luck Ashton would forget about as well and they would get along just great.
He had just reached his dorm and was about to open the door when his back exploded. At least that's what it felt like. He sank to his knees and his hands automatically reached behind his back to scratch at whatever skin they could reach. Itching powder.
He forced hands down by his sides, panting and gritting his teeth. He knew that itching it that way would only make it worse, though it hurt like crazy and knew he wasn't going to able to resist for long. His hand had rolled away and so he had to splay himself out to reach it. He wasn't sure if Ashton could see him but he sure hoped not since he was in kind of an awkward position. Ashton, of course he was the one who'd given him the powder, Kingsley mused bitterly as he preformed a spell that didn't get rid of the itching but certainly made it more tolerable.
he stood up slowly, dusting himself off, twisting and twitching and he dealt with the remaining uncomfortableness and tried to decide whether or not to approach Ashton about the situation. Approaching him before hadn't exactly ended well, but he didn't want the guy to think he could get away with this without some sort of reaction or he might do it again.
he opened his dorm room and then closed it, remaining on the outside and waiting to see what Ashton would do. he leaned against the wall, trying to quiet his heavy breathing and keep himself from fidgeting from his still slightly itchy back side.

Ash had watched with mild amusement as Kinglsey practically stomped back down the stairs, and it had taken all he had not to smirk and laugh as the itching power began to work its magic. It was harsh stuff, that was for sure, and it only got worse as you itched it more. There were various ways to ease it down but there was only one thing that would completely cancel out the effects of the stuff, and that something came with it’s own problems and consequences, so it wasn’t exactly the better option. It was a bit of a pick and choose thing.
Ash didn’t miss the look on the younger kids face as he started up the stairs again, but this time Ash didn’t try to charm them. Kingsley wouldn’t fall for it twice, and Ash didn’t want to be close when the itching powder really kicked in. Hopefully, Kingsley would get inside of his dorm before it really started, and if not, he would make sure to get in there quickly. He seemed a smart kid – he’d have to know something to ease it off- one of the spells or something, then he’d surely be smart enough to get a damp cloth and wipe the itchy area to pick up some of the powder that was there. All Ash needed to do was wait for a few minutes then Kingsley would be out of the way and he’d have a clear route up to his own dorm room.
Ash so that’s just what he did. He set up another bucket to hover over the common room entrance, this time filled with a thick sludge. He wasn’t intending to hang around to see who it hit though, he’d wait and hear that one through the grapevine, so to say.
Heading up the stairs himself, Ash expected to see an empty corridor and a clear path to his dorm. He didn’t expect to see Kingsley leaning against the wall and glaring at him. ”You know, if you were smart you’d have gone and washed it off by now.” He’d clearly cast some spell to ease the effects of it a bit, but still. Ash just walked past casually and tried to act like nothing had happened, and he didn’t even look at the younger boy as he passed.
