Transfiguration was by far one of Ferret's favorite subjects. However, it wasn't today. Someone decided it would be funny to turn Ferret into...well a ferret! Once she had turned back, she had turned the boy into a mouse and scare it into a hole.
Professor McGonnagal was not pleased.
So the class was dismissed early while the Professors went to look for the mouse boy and she was to wait outside the door until they came back.
That was three hours ago.
Sighing, the girl leaned against the wall, holding her bag to her chest. She was bored and had no book to read. So instead, she pulled out a small compact mirror. Looking around and noticing no one, she looked into the mirror and began to practice changing her eye color.

With Remus' help, Peter had finally been able to transform into a rat for a substantial period of time. Needless to say, Wormtail was absolutely over the moon about it. Ever since that night spent at the Shrieking Shack, Peter had been itching to transform back into his animagus form at every opportunity.
Thankfully, he had Transfiguration last on that Thursday afternoon, and he'd successfully managed to transform his partner, Ferret, into a ferret. If only she knew the ironic situation they were both in! Ferret the Ferret, and Wormtail the Rat.
Just as the tugging sensation behind Peter's navel subsided, someone's boot nearly landed on his head, and so he scurried off in between two cobblestone bricks and waited until the coast was clear.
The class was empty, except for McGonnagall, who was sitting behind her desk, and Ferret, who was practicing something in the mirror. Peter didn't want to let anyone know about his animagus form, and so instead, he scuttled towards Ferret and let out a very mouse-like yelp in order to get her attention. Perhaps she'd turn him back into a human now. Where was the rest of the class, anyway?

Looking down, upon hearing the squeak, one of her eyes in the shape of a cats, the other a deep red, Ferret noticed a mouse looking up at her expectantly. The first thing she did was let out a sound of surprise, her eyes flashing back to normal. The second thing she did was cough, as McGonnagall looked up at her. A few students rushed into the room, telling her they could not find Peter. Sighing, she older woman gave her a warning look, silently telling her not to leave, before exiting the classroom with the other students.
"Merlin's beard Peter!" she gasped, clutching at her heart. "Don't sneak up on me! Wouldn't it have been easier to go to the Professor?" Pulling her wand out of her bag, she muttered the counterspell, allowing Peter to once again take a human form.
"And just for the record, I do not regret turning you into a mouse."
The assignment was to turn a muff into a raccoon. Sure there was a lot of miss aimed spells but she did not like when people changed her appearance. It was one of her pet peeves, probably because she could change herself at will.
Remembering this, she stiffened. Peter did not know she was a Metamorphagus. Only close friends, professors and family did. Peter was not one of those people. And she was praying that he had not noticed. It wasn't something she shared. A lot of people would be after her if the news got out.

Peter watched as the Professor left the classroom following a group of students. People were looking for him? Heck! Half of them were probably wandering around thinking 'who the hell is Peter?' He was usually just known as 'the guy who hung out with James, Sirius and Remus' but he didn't mind being the unknown other really. It at least afforded him a bit of privacy every now and again.
Ferret gasped and told him not to sneak up on her, and asked why he didn't just go to the professor. Still being in his other form, Peter just squeaked in return, unable to form words like this.
Ferret cast a spell to change him back and Peter felt his body change and grown back to his human form, a feeling that was becoming more and more familiar to him now.
"And just for the record, I do not regret turning you into a mouse."
Peter grinned at her. "In that case then, I don't regret turning you into a ferret." In fact, Peter had been really surprised when he'd done it. It was nothing like what the assignment wanted him to do, but the fact he'd managed to transfigure an actual person? That was cool. Human transfiguration wasn't something they taught for another year or two.
Ferret stiffened and gave Peter a strange look. He just raised an eyebrow as he looked back at her. He had no idea what she was going all weird over and no matter how hard he thought about it, he couldn't think of anything. Or could he? What was it that he'd seen briefly when she'd first noticed him in front of her? When she'd had the mirror in her hand, that was...
There'd been something funny going on with her eyes but Peter hadn't given it much thought. Now he was though - how had she done that? "Say, before... was that like... wandless tranfiguration or something? What you were doing with your eyes? It looked cool." Wandless was the only thing that Peter could think of to explain away what he'd seen.

Oh thank god! He associated her eye color changing with wandless magic. Thank Wizard God!
"Yeah," she said, smiling at the boy. "But you can't tell anyone ok? We aren't suppose to use wandless magic until seventh year and the teachers might think I'm being a smart arse and make me do extra work."
Leaning against the wall, she looked up at the ceiling. There was nothing interesting to look at but it was enough to try and fix her eye color.
"Gratz on turning me into a ferret though. Though the assignment was to turn the muff into a raccoon. How you got me into a ferret, I don't know."

Peter laughed. "Extra credit work… how dreadful." He rolled his eyes. "If I was ever smart enough in any subject to be offered extra credit I'd take it. Not that it would ever happen of course. Peter wasn't exactly made of brains, and that wasn't going to change anytime soon. He could scrape a pass in his lessons and that was as good as it got for him. At least he wasn't failing, though that was probably only thanks to Remus's help.
Peter looked around with a sigh, wondering what to do now. He had a feeling that leaving wasn't an option, at least not until McGonagall got back and saw that he was okay… How long that would be though he had no idea. He wondered what they could talk about until then.
Peter laughed. "I think it was a one off stroke of luck. I wouldn't know how to do it again even if I wanted too." It'd been cool though. Maybe he'd ask Remus later to show him how he'd managed to do it… If he could get the hang of a spell like that…
"So…what else can you do wandless?"

Ferret frowned. "Peter, I'm sure you're very smart. You just need to find your subject." She smiled. "Look at me. I am TERRIBLE at Charms, absolutely awful. I have to ask Lily HUNDREDS of times for help on the same assignment. But I'm good at Transfiguration, as you saw." She smiled.
"Once you find your subject, you will do great! Hey, maybe your good at something like Muggle Studies, or Care of Magical creatures, or "The History of Wizard's Chess!". Something you enjoy you will find you are good at. So, what is something you enjoy?" Ferret moved closer to the boy, eager to hear what he said.
