Ash couldn't think of a single person that he knew that actually liked History of Magic. Everyone he knew used the lesson to catch up on sleep or late homework or something, and very few people actually took notes. It was the most pointless lesson to be in. Professor Binns just drawled on and on in a monotone voice as he read of a chapter of Hogwarts a History, or so it seemed. Most students were convinced that the old ghost had just memorized the book by heart over the years.
Usually, Ash didn't mind taking a lesson to sleep or catch up, but today, he was wide awake and his homework was all caught up. Where did that leave him? Bored. Bored out of his mind and in desperate need of some fun... And of all the lessons History of Magic was the least fun.
Or was it?
Binns didn't notice whether you were there/ weren't there/ walked in late/ walked out early/ fell asleep/ stayed away/ sat down/wandered around... The guy didn't seem to see anything, he just kept droning on.
So...surely he wouldn't notice a bit of fun going on in the class room, would he? With a grin, Ash slipped his wand from his pocket but kept it low under the table.
On the desk at the front of the room was a huge stack of papers that hadn't moved in all the years Ash had been here. He'd even sneaked a peep through the first couple. They were dated 1922. Talk about old! And useless.
With a flick of his wand, the papers fell from the desk and scattered across the floor. Heads from all around the classroom looked in that direction but none moved. And Binns? He stayed blissfully unaware that anything had happened.
Step One, success.
Another flick of his wand and a muttered incantation later, the sheets of paper began to fold and twist - magical origami. And the best thing? They were pretty indestructible.
Paper animals of all shapes and sized began to march around the floor, trails of dust falling behind them where some of the papers had been falling apart.
There were dozens - hundreds, of these small paper creatures running around now, from snakes, to elephants, to cats, to birds and bees that actually took flight, to fish that flopped and flapped on the ground and... did that paper cat just eat one?
This was brilliant! He'd done this with the intention of just setting paper animals free around the class and instead he had created a war zone of sorts. Cats ate birds. Dogs chased cats. Elephants stomped as mice ran circles beneath their feet... It was mayhem! And it was brilliant.
Between things running around flying around and climbing up the chair legs, no one seemed to know where to look or how to react to anything that was going on.
Still, Binns remained unaware.
