Christmas! Finally. The holidays were here. No more school. No more lessons. No more any of it. They were finally faced with 3 whole weeks of blissful quiet and lesson free days... Well... maybe not so quiet...
James had wrote home to his parents in the middle of November and asked what their plans were for the festive season, and surprisingly, they were just spending Christmas at home. No fancy holidays or trips abroad or anything like that, just an ordinary Christmas at the Potter household... Which was enough to spring a few ideas to mind.
Even after all the years of school with his fellow marauders they'd never actually manged to spend a Christmas together, always being called home by fussy parents who insisted on seeing their children. Not this year. James was fully set in his mind that this would be the year that they'd really spend Christmas in style and bring the new year in with a bang. The marauder would be spending the holiday at his place. No questions asked.
It had been simple really - writing home to his parents telling them of his plan... writing to the Lupin's... the Pettigrew's... The Blacks could go to hell though. They got a scrawled note in the best imitation James could do of Sirius's handwriting saying 'not coming home. see you in the summer' and that was all he needed to say. The Black's couldn't give a damn... which kinda sucked for Sirius...
But, with a little convincing all the parents were in agreement that the four boys could spend their first Christmas together. James couldn't wait.
Unlike usual, James had his bags packed and was ready to go long before the train left Hogsmeade for Kings Cross. He was usually scrambling around trying to get everything last minute. Not this time. He couldn't wait to get out of her. He could hardly sit still with excitement. They'd hardly even sat down on the train ride home before they'd pulled out the firewhiskey and began their celebrations. To the best maraudering Christmas! Cheers!
Well... to say his parents hadn't been best pleased at James stumbling half drunk off the train would probably be an understatement, but it was all in good cheer and they were more bothered about him being at home that what state he was in.
Stumbling in the front door, he raised one of the half empty bottles in the air. "To a thoroughly maraudering Christmas!" He grinned, watching as Remus, Peter, and Sirius all stumbled their way through the door behind him.
This was going to be great.

Christmas was here, and whilst to most students it was a great break from school, it was simply a reminder to Sirius he had the worst family in the history of families. He hated them and they more than likely felt the same way about him too, and he couldn't say it bothered him much the sooner he could break away from them the better.
The Potters were more than welcoming though, and Sirius always felt at home with them. So when James had all but ordered Sirius and the others to his house for Christmas, Sirius hadn't argued, in fact he couldn't think of a better way to spend the holidays, or welcome in the new year. His friends after all were the only family he needed. Come to think of it his family hadn't even bothered to get in touch with him to find out what he had planned for Christmas, showed you how much they cared then didn't it...
So after loading their bags onto the train and sitting down, the boys had begun their celebrations. Sirius hadn't expected them to get too drunk after all he didn't want to make a show of himself in front of the Potters, but once again he'd drank too much and was left to stumble after James off the train and planted a big wet kiss on Mrs Potters cheek before they left the station, making the older woman blush and laugh at him. James's parents were way to easy going, not that Sirius was complaining.
"Here Here Prongs old buddy!" Sirius sang, holding up his own bottle when James made a toast after they all stumbled through the front door and into the Potter mansion. "Lets make it the best yet!"

Remus smiled as the train pulled out from Hogwarts, headed off to James' for the Christmas holidays. This would be the first Christmas he'd spent away from the school in years, his parents being frequently overloaded with work and unwilling to leave a teenage werewolf unsupervised (as if his lycanthropy made a difference to the fact that he was essentially a very responsible teenage boy).
He'd rolled his eyes when Sirius had cracked out the Firewhiskey before they'd even left the station, but hadn't been surprised. A Marauder party wouldn't really be the same without at least some alcohol. And the others getting drunk gave him a great opportunity to take some photos to send around as birthday blackmail in the coming year. The others had never, after all, figured out that his affliction meant Remus' tolerance for alcohol was ridiculous and he never got any more than heavily buzzed even when they were passing out.
Whistling softly he pulled his camera out of his luggage and began to document this latest booze-soaked party, making sure to get all of the standard shots as well as the more unusual, like James and Sirius cuddling - well, they claimed it was "wrestling" but Remus knew better - on the floor. He got a lovely photo of Sirius greeting James' mother as well.
Standing in the front entrance of Potter Manor, Remus put away his camera and raised his glass, crying: "To mischief managed and mischief yet to come!"

It had taken more convincing than James realized to get Peter's parents to let him go to the Potter's for christmas. His parents were really fussy about having him home with them, so it took countless promises that next year he'd go home and spend the holidays with them. He doubted they'd let him stay away twice.
The train journey had been an eventful one and, like usual, Peter was the first one to start with the hiccups and declaring he'd had too much to drink. He hadn't had half as much as any of the others had drank, but he was, regrettably, a lightweight when it came to his liquor. With just the smallest amount of alcohol his head was fussy and he was slurring his words. Peter was pretty sure that Remus would have some awful pictures of him after this holiday.
Peter fell off the train more than stepped off it, and managed a slurred, hiccup filled welcome to James's parents before the four of them were apparated off to the Potter Mansion. The place was huge! Peter had been there a couple of times before in the summers but the place never failed to amaze him. Where he lived was tiny. This was like heaven by comparison, though the sheer amount of stairs were rather tiring. There was far too much walking involved for his liking and it gave Hogwarts a run for its money, but still, he loved to visit the Potter's as much as Remus and Sirius did.
Following the others through the door, Peter raised the bottle he held in the air, only a few dregs left in the bottom of it. "'Ere, 'ere!" The words were almost incoherent, and Peter had a feeling that he wasn't going to be able to stay upright on his feet for very much longer... Well, at least this was bound to be a good christmas!

James turned and watched as the rest of the Marauders followed him into the house, all raising bottles or glasses over their heads. James grinned. He could see his parents behind them just shaking their heads but still only just say managed to keep the smiles off their faces. So, they didn't like seeing him drunk, but they weren't about to complain when they were all in such a great mood. His mother even had a huge cooked meal for them when they got there full of all of their favorites. And his dad? Well it seemed he was being a good sport tonight and he even donated another bottle of whiskey to their happy cause, and ended up joining them in their celebrations for a while.
The next morning they all had a hangover from hell... Well... maybe not Remus. He seemed fine, but Peter had spent most of the morning over the toilet and Sirius just refused point blank to get out of bed. James somehow managed to get himself downstairs but had flopped onto the sofa and remained their for the next couple of hours. Even food didn't sound too appealing, but his mother had forced some into him anyway.
After an afternoon of still slightly hungover christmas decorating, the place was looking a little more in the christmassy cheer than what it had been. Considering how rough they'd been feeling, it looked like a job well done.

The following days leading up to Christmas were fun filled and exciting. Between messing around in the snow and going shopping in London, they were constantly busy. Christmas though, was going to be a great day.
The morning dawned bright and early and snow was falling outside again. There was a light, cheery mood in the air like there always was at Christmas, but this one felt even better than normal because James had all of his friends there with him.
Running into the next room James pounced on Sirius's bed and bounced up and down, grinning. "Wakey, wakey, sleepy head!" He all but screamed at Sirius, before jumping off and pulling the covers off him and onto the floor.
He didn't wait before heading to the next room and pulling Peter's covers off him too. "Morning!"
Next, Remus. Who it appeared was already stirring. No doubt he'd his wolfy hearing had heard him shouting for Sirius and Peter to wake up and he'd woke himself before he got pounced on. That wasn't going to save him though and James ran in full speed and leap, landing with a bounce at the bottom of Remus's bed. "Merry Christmas, Moony!"
James couldn't wait to get this day started.
