The grounds were dotted with empty trees and colorful leaves that seemed to dance along the grounds when a breeze blew. But it was nothing too unusual. It was autumn after all. In fact, there was a peaceful beauty about the day, its familiarity and simplicity refreshing.
A girl sat under a bare tree, wrapped in her Gryffindor scarf and reading a small paperback book. It was obviously a muggle book, the images on the cover were not moving. But the girl seemed content all the same, involved in the story.
Ferret smiled as she read the final chapter of the mystery novel Lily had lent her. She had found great enjoyment in reading them and found herself wondering if there was a wizarding career that was close to a muggle detective. She would take that job in a second.
She smiled as she read the last words and closed the book, looking up at the empty branched above her.
It was a good day.

(OOC: I was going to wait and talk to Erin about what Chase/Lachie were doing to end up outside or... whatever but I feel bad leaving you waiting with no reply for so long >.< So... I'm just gunna make something up and if needs be I'll edit it later) Finally, their free period had come. Chase for one had been waiting all day for this hour, not because he had big plans or anything, but simply because he didn't want to be in class. He'd considered skipping his classes all together but a night of detention was another thing that he really didn't want right now. There was just so much going on...
Trent had done his usual trick of disappearing straight off to the library when they left their class while Lachlan and Chase made a mad-dash for the doors that would lead them to a short burst of freedom.
To say that the week was dragging by would be an understatement, and the fact that it was still only Thursday proved that. The weekend felt like so long ago, the the next one so far away. Ironic, wasn't it, that he hoped that this hour dragged by like the length of the week?
Chase tried to place a finger on exactly what it was that was bothering him - too much pent up energy, seemed to be the answer that came to mind. He'd been so caught up in everything that had happened that he hadn't really done anything that involved running or... anything active. Well... When better than now?
"Race you to the lake!" He shoved Lachie in the arm in a playful way and shot past him, picking up speed. They were on the second floor, so there were only a few flights to get down before they were in the entrance hall and then on their way to freedom. On a nice day like this one when students wanted to be outside and enjoying the last of the nice weather the front doors were usually left slightly ajar. Here was hoping this was another of those days because Chase really couldn't be bothered to have to stop and lug the great thing back so they could get out.
He flew around corners narrowly avoiding connecting with them, side-stepped wildly around other students, and took the stairs at a weird sort of leap about 4 at a time. The door was open. Hallelujah!
The cool breeze hit him before he even made it out of the door. Not once in his dash through the castle had he looked back to see whether Lachie was following him, he just assumed that he was. It was only when he got outside that he chanced a glance over his shoulder in search of his friend.
He had to keep looking - Where was Lachie? Oh don't say he hadn't followed! If the nutter was still walking it then it'd be ages before he got out side...
Perhaps Chase should have watched where he was running because he quickly became aware that he wasn't running in quite the right direction while he'd been looking over his shoulder, and he'd veered off in that direction.
Jerking his head back around sharply to see where he was, Chase stumbled, slightly disorientated, he feet not used to moving in a straight direction anymore and struggling to get back to track.
Arm windmilling in front of him and his strides becoming uneven lunges, it was only a few seconds before he completely lost his balance and flew head first in the direction of a tree. Thankfully, he wasn't quite close enough to hit it... He couldn't say the about the person who's lap his face ended up planting into to...

I'M NOT COMING BACK I'VE DONE SOMETHING SO TERRIBLE, I'M TERRIFIED TO SPEAK BUT YOU'D EXPECT THAT FROM ME "SAY HI TO MADAM PINCE FROM ME!" Lachlan yelled after Trent as he and Chase watched their friend disappear down the corridor (accompanied by Trent giving them a rude gesture in return). Lachlan sniggered. Chase pushed Lachlan in the shoulder and declared it a race - one that Chase was about to lose.
"Oh, you're on, pretty-boy," Lachlan said as he made a mad dash for the stairs. Chase had already flown down them, running at four steps at a time, and had reached the first floor landing. Unfortunately for Lachlan the staircase had begun to move and ended up taking him down another path towards the first floor.
Slightly disorientated, Lachlan paused for a second to find out where he was. Right. History of Magic classroom door. Lachlan ran past it, feeling his chest heave with the amount of physical exertion he was putting into this.
He flew down the stairs, only to see that Chase had just made his way out of the front door. Lachlan was close on his tail and wasn't prepared to lose the race. Darting between groups of students, he finally made his way outside and ran as fast as he could towards the lake. His legs were starting to hurt.
Where was Chase? As Lachlan looked around, he saw Chase running in a different direction - towards a tree of sorts. Lachlan made it to the side of the lake and clutched his heart, catching his breath.
Just as he looked up, he saw Chase fly head first into the lap of a girl who had been sitting down and reading a book. Howling with laughter at Chase's expense, Lachlan walked over to where the boy had ended up. "I won!" Lachlan paraded, dancing in a small circle, as he plonked himself down next to the girl with the book.
"Hey, Ferret," Lachlan grinned, out of breath as he stretched out next to the Gryffindor girl. "Sorry about Chase. He's trying really hard to make you go out with him, see," he teased, sticking his tongue out at his friend. "And by the way, Chase," Lachlan said, leaning over to ruffle his friend's hair, "the lake's that way." He pointed over his shoulder.

While she could hear voices coming closer and closer to her, the last thing she expected was for someone's face to end up in her lap.
"What in the name of Merlin's soggy underpants..." She blinked several times, trying to understand what on earth just happened. Her book lay open on the ground as she stared dumbfounded at the head in her lap.
Looking up she saw Lachlan prancing about like a Hippogriff trying to impress a female. She raised an eyebrow, confused more than ever. She moved her book out of the way before he plopped down beside her. As he introduced his friend, she looked down.
"I thought Chase was seeing someone. I don't do taken peeps...or guys for that matter." She smirks and taps him on the head a few times.
"But...why are you heading for the lake...its too cold for a swim...though if you see any bikini clad chicks, let me know!" She smiled more tapping Chase on the head. "And you might wanna move, people might get the wrong idea."

To say that he was feeling slightly disorientated would probably be an understatement. After he fell with a bit of a thump he didn't move for a while, struggling to get his head around what was going on and push away the wave of dizziness that came with it. What the heck had just happened? One minute he'd been running and the next he was windmilling all over the place and heading towards a tree. He mind felt more than a little jumbled, and it took a while before he even remembered the girl under the tree. All he could think was, had he hit the tree? Was the darkness his... unconscious? But that didn't make sense, because then he wouldn't be thinking...right? He heard a voice from somewhere above him that sounded familiar. Lachie. Hi who? Making him go out with who? Wait, who's was the other voice? Oh yeah! The girl under the tree. His head shot up as he remembered. Oh, gods wasn't that just great? Em would have a thing or two to say if she saw him then. He looked up in time to see Lachie sticking his tongue out at him and gave him a mock glare as Lachie leaned to ruffle his hair. "You don't say?" He drawled sarcastically. He looked up to see exactly who it was he'd just face planted into to. Ah, Ferret. Well, that had to be a good thing at least. What was with all the hair ruffles and head taps from these two? Jeesh! He let Lachie answer her question about the lake, but did make a comment about the bikini clad girls. Not that there were ever many of those around Hogwarts, and definitely not in November. "If I see any, I'll be sure to not let you know and keep them for myself. Agreed, Lachie?" He looked over at Lachie as he said it. Another tap on his head. He looked back up at Ferret. "And what wrong idea would that be, m'dear?" He grinned at her, but he did move away from her so that he was sitting facing the two of them. This wasn't quite how he'd thought they'd be spending their free hour, but he sure wasn't complaining. He looked back to Lachie and his brows pulled together, remembering the reason he'd ended up planting himself into Ferret's lap in the first place. "Say, what happened? Where did you go back there? I was looking for you..."

I'M NOT COMING BACK I'VE DONE SOMETHING SO TERRIBLE, I'M TERRIFIED TO SPEAK BUT YOU'D EXPECT THAT FROM ME Lachlan let the comment about Chase seeing someone slide. He didn't know if other people knew about it - or even if Chase and Emily had made up after that awful incident at the Halloween Ball. It was best not to talk about it, but it had seemed like Chase had already moved on from the comment anyway. That was either a very good sign, or a really bad one.
Lachlan laughed an held out his hand for Chase to high-five. "Bikini clad chicks belong to us, now," he grinned at Ferret. If only Tay was one of them.. Lachlan snapped his head back into reality. He had to stop thinking about Tay - it was getting borderline obsessive!
"Well, you see," Lachlan started, shifting into the small circle that the three of them had formed. "The staircase changed on me. And then I actually ran towards the lake, so either way you look at it, I won," the smile on his face said it all.
"So now you have to be my slave. Forever. That was the deal," He grinned at Chase and ruffled his friend's hair once more. Everyone was touching Chase's head today...
"Anyway, so what brings you out on such a lovely day like this?" Lachlan asked Ferret, leaning back on his hands. The wind was a bit chilly for the bikini-clad ladies to be out and about, but autumn was Lachlan's second favourite season. After summer, of course.

Ferret raised an eyebrow. "Well, your head is in my lap face first. Now, what would a person think if they walked by and saw? Especially your special other." She shrugged and picked up her book again, flipping to a random page and pretending to read. "Besides, my reputation is on the line here too! I am not a fan of males in a romantic sense."Turning her attention to Lachlan, her brows furrowed. "Ok, why do you get all the bikini chicks? Save some of the rest of us and I was here first."Shaking her head, she smiled. Men. Some times, men were amusing. Racing to the lake? That seemed like child's play. But who was she to judge? She had a stuffed friend she kept near her at all times. "And now I have the urge to go swimming..." She looked between the two. "Have either of you met the giant squid?"(sorry for the shortness, I'm a bit muse locked )

Chase grinned at Lachie’s comment. ”Oh, yes Great Master.” He put on the stupidest voice that he could and gave a bow, going cross eyed. Well that sure hadn’t been part of the agreement, but the, nothing that came out of their mouths ever seemed to have anything to do with whatever it was that they’d said before. They spoke so much nonsense sometimes it was a wonder that they even understood each other – god help anyone else who over heard them.
Again, he grinned. ”I have met the giant squid actually… not so long ago. He certainly helped me to scare the bejesus out of Emily.” Chase laughed at the memory. It had been his fault that he hadn’t been paying much attention to where he was standing and had slipped off the drop point where the not-so-deep part at the edges of the lake cut out to a deep drop, but he hadn’t been expecting something grabbing his ankles and pulling him deeper at that time. ”That squid ain’t such a bad guy, you know. Gave me my wand back when I lost it in the lake.” Now hadn’t that been a surprise and a half…
”So… swimming, huh? I’m up for it.” Chase grinned.
