Rio had been standing in the living room for a while, staring out of the window with a bottle of beer in his hand. He'd left April in the kitchen when she'd demanded to be alone, and at some point in time, Risa had vanished too. Knowing her she'd probably gone upstairs to snoop around for answer since he hadn't given her any.
A noise behind him had briefly stirred him from his thoughts, but then there had been the sound of a door closing somewhere down the hall in one of the room. No doubt Chase based of the heavy footfalls he'd heard.
Letting his mind drift, Rio thought back over his own youth, and some of the things that he'd done over the years. Chase was a little wild, sure, but he wasn't as bad as some teens were. Some of the things that his son did just reminded him of his own youth, even if he'd been a little older when he'd been doing things like that. Most of his craziest encounters had been with April, and he'd done some pretty messed up stuff, now that he thought back on it. What Chase had done was almost tame by comparison.
There'd been something about what he'd seen up there though - something in the way that Chase had acted... and it made him wonder if maybe there was more to it than what met the eye. Like, maybe she was more than just 'another girl' or something... he'd just have to wait till someone decided to fill him in on the details to find out.
Frowning, Rio noticed that his bottle was empty and he sighed. He wanted anther but he couldn't be bothered to go and get one, and he knew that April still had the stupid charm on the fridge that meant he couldn't just summon on too him. The bloody woman made everything difficult at times...
He turned at the sound of foot steps behind him and he saw Risa dragging her brother into the room with him, a weird, somewhat distant look on his face. Rio was more interested in the two bottles that Risa held. She skipped over to him and handed them to him. "Atta girl." He grinned, ruffling her hair. That was damn near perfect timing.
Rio looked over to his son and frowned as he popped the tops off both of the bottles. "What's got you looking to miserable? Your plans didn't go as you planned?"

Risa pulled Chase along with her towards where she'd last seen their dad, and she couldn't help but thinking the whole 'drag the brother' thing would be easier if she didn't have two breakable bottles in her other arm.
She had no idea what was going on but he still seemed to be acting weird and he wasn't saying much, and he was just generally acting 'not Chase' at that moment. The further from the kitchen they got, though, the less effort it took for her to get him to follow her.
Their dad turned to face them as they entered the room and Risa let go of Chase's hand, skipping over to her dad and handing him the bottles that she'd brought with her, noticing that the one he'd had was empty.
"Atta girl."
He ruffled her hair and she grinned up at him. "Mum said you wanted to talk to Chase, and made me drag him here. He's acting funny though." She turned and gave Chase a smug look, and smiled innocently at the look he gave her.
Risa looked back up at her dad when he spoke and she frowned. "Plans?" She didn't expect to be told anything. She never was.

Emily confirmed that she was indeed okay, and if nothing else, she didn't look as if she was silently begging him to get her out of the no doubt up and coming conversation with his mum. So, knowing she was okay, he allowed himself to follow Risa with a bit less tugging necessary.
As expected, their dad was in the living room when they got there, and he turned to face them. Risa dropped Chase's hand and bobbed off to their dad, happily handing over two bottles.
"Mum said you wanted to talk to Chase, and made me drag him here. He's acting funny though."
She turned and gave him a smug look, and he responded with a glare. He was not acting funny at all. He was fine. He was just a little... a little shell shocked, but he'd snapped out of it now. Risa smiled innocently at him and he just rolled his eyes, flopping down on the nearest sofa.
"What's got you looking to miserable? Your plans didn't go as you planned?"
Risa's voice popped up at that but Chase ignored her. What had happened upstairs wasn't really something that you could tell a ten year old about. Risa was still a little too young for things like that, no matter how mature she might think she was.
He just gave his dad a look. "Funny, dad. Real funny." To say that his plans hadn't gone as he'd expected would be an understatement. It'd all turned out rather disastrously in the end. His dad had only made things worse by making the stupid comments that he did.
It wasn't like Chase had never been caught by his folks before, it's just that usually, being caught usually didn't involve his dad being able to recite the ongoing conversation back to him... Then again, there hadn't really been a lot of conversation in the past, had there?
Chase shook his head and pushed those thoughts away, eyeing the bottles of beer his dad held. He could use a good drink right now...

Don't you worry about it, kid." Rio ruffled Risa's hair again and pulled her into a brief, one armed hug. She wasn't really old enough to know about what had gone on upstairs, and he kind of wanted to keep his daughter innocent for as long as he could.
He watched as Chase flopped down onto the nearest sofa and gave him a look.
"Funny, dad. Real funny."
Rio laughed, sending a wink in his son's direction. So they'd crashed his party? What else should he have done? He'd over heard them talking in the bedroom and it had been pretty clear that things were moving towards... yes. And so, between the option of them getting caught when they did, or waiting till they really got going and April hearing them and walking in, the first really was the kinder answer.
He hadn't really expected for the girl to be any more than just 'another girl' but it had been quite clear in the way that Chase had reacted that there was definitely more than that there, which just peaked Rio's curiosity more.
Chase eyed the bottles of beer, and with a roll of his eyes, Rio handed one over. "So... who was she?"
More than just a nobody, that was clear, but he wanted to hear the words spoken out loud - by Chase - before he'd actually believe them. Considering how against committed relationships Chase had always been, it was a bit of a surprise that things had changed now. If one thing was sure though, Chase seemed to have picked up the same 'thing' for blondes that he had - it was becoming a bit of a Connor's theme...

And as usual, Risa wasn't told a thing. When would they stop treating her like a child and start treating her like someone who was going to be starting school really soon? It wasn't fair really... It wasn't like she didn't 'know' about stuff like that, and she could only guess it had been something like that which had happened.
Like... Risa had long since stopped believing the whole 'pillow fights' and 'bed wrestling' stories. Her parents were a bit too old for that kind of thing, and seeing as every time Risa had so much as picked up a cushion from the couch her mum had freaked out, she couldn't picture her willingly bashing her own pillows around.
The only thing Risa wished was that she hadn't let her childish ignorance and stubbornness get the better of her. She should never had set off with the 'intention of finding out the truth' and she'd not have ended up seeing her parents doing... what she did. Of course, even now they didn't know that she'd seen what she had, but they still always treated her like she was completely clueless to such things.
She watched as her dad handed over one of the bottles to Chase. That had been the whole point of her bringing in two in the first place. She knew Chase would want one too, she just wasn't going to be the one who gave it to him directly. Their parents weren't always best pleased at him just helping himself to their booze.
"That was Emily. Chase's girlfriend." She grinned after having spoken in a singsong voice. Again, she ignored the look her brother gave her and looked back up to her dad. "I talked to her upstairs. She's really nice."

"So... who was she?"
Chase more than happily took the bottle held out to him and, instead of answering, took a long swig. Of course, that gave time for Risa to answer instead. Chase narrowed his eyes to a glare at her mocking, singsong tone, but Risa ignored him. To be honest, Chase could pretty much never be angry or annoyed with Risa. He loved his little sister far too much for that.
That did answer a few questions though - such as how Emily ended up in the kitchen. Of course! He'd seen her going upstairs when he was on his way down. She was going snooping again, as she so often did - digging for dirt and information that she was probably better off not knowing. At least she'd managed to convince Emily to stay though but... he was feeling rather worried at what might be being said at that very moment in the kitchen. He had no idea how him mum felt about her, but going off what she'd been saying before? It could be pretty terrible...
Chase looked from the bottle in his hands to his sister. "I don't suppose you could get another couple of these, could you? And... maybe bring back an update of how much shouting and glaring is going on in there? I kinda feel bad leaving Em to mum's wrath..."
He really did want to know what was going on in there, but he also wanted Risa out of the room for a few minutes. He knew his dad enough to know that there was more that he wanted to say, but would with Risa around. And Chase might as well get that conversation out of the way now...

Risa should have expected that coming. Whenever something happened and Chase and her dad were next in the same room, Risa was always given some little job or task to do to get her out of the room, and every time she got back, it was blatantly obvious that something had happened that she'd missed.
Usually though, it was her dad that thought up something, so Chase doing it was a bit of a change from norm. If he'd just left it as a 'get more booze' request, she would probably have said no, but then the look of concern that passed over his features when he spoke about their mum and Emily was impossible to miss. Was Risa curious to know what Chase and their dad wanted to talk about? Sure! Was Risa curious to know what was happening between her mum and Chase's girlfriend? Most definitely!
Risa rolled her eyes but gave a salute. "Mission accepted. I'll report back to base when I find something worth reporting. Or when I get more bottles - whichever comes first." Ultimately, alcohol usually came first on both of their minds, though maybe not on Chase's today...
Risa marched to the door and looking back with a grin. "Hi ho! Hi ho! It's off to work I go." The them proceeded to skip down the hallway whistling the rest of the tune on the way to the kitchen.

Rio didn't say anything, just watched the exchange between his kids and waited until Risa had disappeared out of the room. "Your mums' wrath, huh?" He laughed as he looked back to Chase, moving across the room so that he could sit on the opposite side of the sofa to him. "What'd she ever do to deserve a comment like that?"
He grinned before looking at the bottle in his hand. Risa really did have great timing with that one. Besides, how many guys could say their kids did that? This was one to tell the team - once again, Risa doing it the right way. Daddy's girl to the end that one.
"So... Emily, huh?" He could tell that there was more too it, but now he wanted some of the finer details. Risa had said girlfriend, and that seemed quite out of place to hear in relation to Chase. His son had always spoken up for the bachelors life, and nothing had suggested that would change anytime soon. But then again, hadn't Rio been saying that very same thing at that age? It just took the right girl to come along and BOOM! Life as you knew it? Forget it.
No regrets though.

Chase just gave his dad a look as he sat down on the other end of the sofa. "You kidding me?" Considering how much she'd just screamed at him about sleeping around and bringing sl*ts into the house or whatever it was she's gone off about, he found it hard to believe that she'd turn a complete 180 towards Emily... then again, maybe Em would know what to say to her better that him... Chase's best plan had been to just walk out the room so...
Chase downed half the bottle in one go and hoped that Risa came back with more soon.
"So... Emily, huh?"
Chase sighed. He knew this was coming... he was just waiting for the comments related to what'd happened upstairs to start. Or some mention of the comments that Chase had flung back towards his dad about the robot thing... or something...
"What do you want me to say?"

"What do you want me to say?"
Rio grinned and shrugged his shoulders. "Well you could start by telling me who she is? Ris said girlfriend, but last I heard you didn't even acknowledge that the word could be found in the English dictionary, never mind anything else."
He was at least going to get a few details out of his son before Chase completely closed off to him and clammed up. He doubted he'd get many details, and Rio still had every intention of winding his son up something rotten, but he'd get what he could first.

Chase shrugged his shoulders and looked down, not sure what to say about Emily. His mind was still racing from what he'd just said in the kitchen, and it didn't seem quite so easy to talk about her now. He couldn't get those words from his head they just seemed to be stuck on repeat - an internal mantra. "Risa said right." He shrugged again. "I dunno… I just… Things change I guess…" He had no idea what to say. His dad had a point. It wasn't that long ago that Chase had been dead set on the idea that he wasn't going to have a girlfriend no matter what happened, he was just going to happily stay single and having fun. A bachelor life all the way. But when had things changed? What had been the turning point? He really wasn't all that sure.

Rio watched Chase and he frowned a bit. This wasn't like Chase… he usually didn't act this way. He usually spoke his mind and said things as they were, no shame. Even when they'd caught him in various situations before he usually managed to sling a few comebacks in Rio's direction and just act like nothing had happened. This? This had to be something more than just being caught. If he'd only been caught he definitely wouldn't be acting like this. And what had Risa said about him acting strange or something? He didn't say anything in response, but his mind started working overtime trying to think of what could be bothering Chase right now. "Chase… what happened with mum? What did she say to you?" That had to be it, didn't it? April hadn't seemed happy to begin with, but what if she'd said something awful to Chase? Or… at least something she didn't mean. April had a tendency to say things worse than they were when she was upset or flustered.

Chase looked up sharply at the mention of his mother. "The usual." He sighed and looked off across the room, staring out of the window again. It was snowing again. It had looked like it was thinking about it earlier but it hadn't actually been snowing when he'd left for Hogsmeade. Now it was a white blanket outside the windows. He sighed again. "She just said… you know… the usual. Sl*ts and sleep arounds and all girls I know are the same." He sighed again before rolling his eyes. "Typical mum stuff really." He didn't bother to mention that he'd blurted out to her that he… that he loved Emily, but he was pretty sure that hadn't even slightly changed her opinion of Em. Next time they spoke she was probably going to start ranting about how he didn't really love her and that it was all just mind games and how sl*uts like that only stayed to get what they wanted… and money money blah blah blah. Oh god… why had he honestly left that room and his mother and Emily alone in it? He'd probably just sent Risa into a complete war zone! Chase pushed to his feet. "I gotta get back in ther-" Risa appeared at the door again and her words surprised Chase more than anything.

Risa had the bottles tucked safely in her arms as she headed back down the corridor. Time to make her report back to her dad and brother. She got the feeling that they'd be expecting news of cat fighting and name calling, but that definitely wasn't what she'd seen in the kitchen. Quite the opposite.
Risa skipping into the room and called out in a sing-song voice. "They're hugging."
The look on Chase's face was priceless at that moment and Risa grinned, handing the bottles over to her dad. "No jokes. They were hugging when I walked in there."
She just shrugged and said no more before she skipped back out of the living room door again and back towards the kitchen.

Chase felt his jaw drop. "They're what?" No way! After everything his mother had said he doubted that she'd change her mind of Emily so quickly. It didn't seem possible. Once his mum had an opinion of someone or something it was almost impossible to get her to reconsider. But maybe Emily really had known what to say to her after all? Still, Chase found it hard to believe. "You're kidding…" "No jokes. They were hugging when I walked in there." Wow… really? No… It couldn't be. It couldn't be happening? Chase reached for one of the bottles that Risa had just handed over before she disappeared off out of the room. He popped the top quickly and headed after Risa. "That can't be possible…" He wouldn't believe it till he saw with his own eyes. More than likely it was his mother attempting to strange poor Emily half to death or something… Urgh! He really should never have left them alone. He followed Risa, ignoring his dad behind him.
