(I talked with Jenna, and she said to go ahead and move on without them xD)
Alice stopped when she heard Roxanna gasped. Her grip tightened. Was something the matter? Was she okay? What should…
She didn’t respond to Roxanna’s assurances other than giving her arm a gentle squeeze. She made their excuses to the teachers, telling them that she would take Roxanna back to her dorm and then finished her route, and then they left.
The whole thing was starting to freak out, and a part of her wanted to leave and not deal with it, but of course she couldn’t do that, not because of Roxanna but because of herself. She would never let herself live it down if she let her own petty short-comings get in the way of helping her friend.
So instead she forced herself to calm down, and focus on being Roxanna’s guide. She learned how to do it over the years, to let Roxanna’s hold on to her instead of the other way around, to let Roxanna know where they were going instead of just silently nudging her this way and that. She didn’t say much other than those careful reminders. Usually she hated awkward silences and so she would try to get some sort of conversation going, but it didn’t seam fitting in this sort of setting. Maybe it was that they were in a silent castle after hours and talking just felt sort of forbidden, or maybe it was just the events of tonight were so out of the ordinary that normal conversation just didn’t fit.
That didn’t mean that Alice didn’t want to talk. She was still burning with the questions she had sworn she wouldn’t ask until at least tomorrow, and it was taking most of her concentration to keep them locked in. She did have one that thought was appropriate to ask, or moreover, if she didn’t ask at least one she would probably explode from the pressure.
“So these—visions—that the professor was talking about? Is that why you were out so late?”
