Emily shrugged off her jacket, and ran her fingers through her hair, shaking the slight damp from the thick strands. It was insane how the rain still managed to affect her hair considering she'd had her hood up, but no matter she was in the green house now and as long as she avoided the places where the rain was seeping through she'd be okay. Dropping her jacket over a bench, Emily made her way over to the herbs.
There were a few particular herbs she was going to need for various potions she was making for extra credit in Potions...considering it was her OWL year, she was taking on a lot of extra credit projects just to get herself ready. Sure it was interfering a little with her time with her friends and Chase, but it was an important year, they understood. At least she had the weekends right...
Emily began humming to herself as she tied up her hair into a loose bun, and pulled on her gloves before grabbing a small pair of scissors. Luckily for her right now Greenhouse #5 was empty, sure it held a few more poisonous plants than the ones before but she was one of the few that knew what she was doing so luckily the Professor didn't feel the need to stand in the room and keep an eye on her. As she got to work the sound of footsteps at the doorway, caught her attention, causing her to look over her shoulder, only to see...

Lachlan was never a particularly academic kind of guy. In fact, he failed at most classes and opted to take the minimal amount. Compared to Trent, and half of the rest of the school, one could say that Lachlan was likely to flunk out of school.
But that was before Lachlan had discovered Herbology.
The one class that he excelled at had to do with gardening. Typical Lachlan. As a child, he'd spend most of his time outdoors playing around in the garden (usually trying to convince his younger sister to eat dirt, but that was another story for another time). There was something about plantlife that Lachlan understood better than anything he could read in a book. Perhaps it was because he learnt by doing things, rather than reading, but for whatever reason it was, Herbology was going to be his chosen profession.
He slipped into Greenhouse #5, quiet and unnoticed. Sprout wouldn't mind if he was there. After all, she was new and Lachlan was one of her favourites.
"Emily?" Lachlan called out to the blonde haired girl sitting at the bench. "Is that you?"
As Emily turned around, Lachlan felt a huge smile spread across his face. He ran towards her and picked her up into a hug before she even had time to move. "What are you doing here?" he asked, slightly bewildered, as he put her back down onto her chair. There was something very homely about Emily and the way she made Lachlan feel.
He took the seat next to her and rested an elbow on the dirt-covered bench, leaning the side of his face into his hand. He was in for a good morning.

"Hey Handsome..." Emily said in response to Lachlan, shooting a bright smile at him, one to match his own. Before she even had a chance to turn on the bench, stand up, greet him with a hug, Lachlan had ran towards her and picked her up into a bone crushing hug. Laughing she returned the hug just as enthusiastically, she'd missed her friend, it had felt like forever since they'd hung out. "I just needed a few herbs for a couple potions...extra credit for potions." she explained when he finally placed her back down in her chair.
Emily smiled softly at Lachlan when he sat back down beside her and it was strange how at ease she immediatley felt. Something about having someone else here, someone who just so happened to be her best-friend made her relax. They'd been through so much together, shared something most people could never imagine...but the good thing about that experience was they both seemed to be moving forward from that night as stronger people, with a rock solid friendship. Emily knew without a doubt they'd be friends forever, as corny as it sounded.
"What about you? Just looking for somewhere to hang out or do you have work to do?" she asked, picking up the scissors and cutting a few herbs loose. Looking over at Lachlan after a few moments she smiled softly, "Feel like we haven't had any time together in ages..." she said, laughing ever so slightly and shaking her head. "Tell me whats new with you...tell me everything...Chase mentioned something about you making eyes at a Ravenclaw..." she commented arching her eyebrow at Lachlan, fighting an amused smile, her boy-friend was a slight gossip.

Lachlan laughed. "Always with the extra-credit things," he winked at her. He picked up some dirt between his fingers and started rubbing it on his hands, enjoying the way it felt. Lachlan was a gardener at heart, and even just being near the greenhouses mad him giddily happy.
"Me?" he asked, his eyebrows raised. "Nah, I just like eating dirt," he said with a straight face before cacking up. He nodded. "Yeah, feels like ages," he repeated, pressing his lips into a hard line. It had been a while since the two of them had really talked. The last time they'd seen each other was when Lachlan had run off to find Emily and tell her about the mistake he'd made at the Halloween Ball. Thankfully, that was all put behind them now. He still had the memory of snogging Chase, though. And that wasn't fun.
"Oh ho," he said in a low chuckle, "did he now?"
Things with Tay had been going really well. They weren't 'officially' together, but if things went the way that Lachlan was hoping, that would all change very soon. "I think she's been making eyes at me," he said truthfully, trying to turn the subject around. He pulled out an apple from his pocket and took a bite out of it.
He knew that Emily would want to know most, if not all, the details. And so, he kept his mouth shut, not saying anymore on the subject. Of course, he was nuts about Tay. She was all he thought about all day long. Even in Transfiguration yesterday, when McGonnagall called on him for an answer, he snorted and said Tay's name. He shuddered at the thought of that embarassing experience.
"What else has Chase said?" he made puppy eyes, taking another bite out of his apple. "So, does this mean that you and Chase are okay now?"

"We have OWL's this year, of course I'm going for the extra credit..." Emily said sticking her tongue out at Lachlan. For a moment she allowed her eyes to linger on Lachlan, happy at seeing him look so at ease, it had been a while since she'd seen him like that, actually it had been a while since either of them had been this at ease, it felt pleasently normal. "Your eating dirt again? Dude we've spoken about that...you need to cut it out." she replied to him playfully.
Tucking her hair behind her ear, Emily glanced over at Lachlan watching the expression on his face as she mentioned Chase talking to her. As he spoke about this girl Emily smiled, though for some reason felt slightly cautious. She was incredibly protective over Lachlan, especially with what they'd been through, he was her best friend, her brother, she wanted to make sure he was okay. "So whats this mystery girls name...Chase wouldn't spill...he did mention she was a Ravenclaw...and pretty cute...tell me everything, leave nothing out..." she said shaking her head. Seriously why was it girls got so much grief for being gossips, guys were way worse.
Seeing the puppy eyes she shook her head, "I promise you that's all he's said, that and he did let slip about the night out you two had in Hogsmeade..." she shot him a knowing look baattling back a smile. Rubbing her nose she shrugged her shoulders, not realising she'd wiped a little dirt onto the tip of her nose. A soft smile appeared on her face as she looked back down at the herbs she was acquiring, before sitting down on the bench beside Chase, "We're good, really good actually...it may be brand new but, he's making me happy." she said sincerely, looking at Lachlan and giving him a smile, wondering what his thoughts where on his two best friends dating. "So...what do you think...about Chase and I?"
