Lachlan lit up like a light as Tay agreed to go and get lunch with him. Sure, things were awkward - Lachlan chose to think that it was more the situation, rather than the two people in it. After all, Trent had gotten up and left the two of them there together (they who barely knew each other). She seemed confused at first, but after a moment, seemed just as enthusiastic as Lachlan's stomach did.
He grabbed the one quill he'd brought with him and stuck it behind his ear as he got up from the table, ready to head out to the Great Hall. He waited patiently as Tay cleared up her things and the two of them began their expedition to the hall-of-food. He held his hands out, hoping to carry Tay's books all the way down to the ground floor.
"So how on Earth did you actually meet Trent?" he asked as they walked side-by-side out of the library. "I mean, I know you guys met in the Library and whatnot. But Trent's like, the most anti-social Hufflepuff I've ever met."
The stairs changed from beneath the two of them and they started heading down to the fourth floor. "And that's saying something. Have you even met Amos Diggory? With his lack of social skills I'm surprised he even lasted that long in Hufflepuff." He shook his head, letting his fringe fall in front of his eyes. He was doing it again. Babbling on like an idiot.

Lachie stood up and Tay quickly followed, pulling her pile of books towards her and stuffing the stray bits of parchment and her quill into her bag. Hanging it over one shoulder she quickly picked up her books and sending him a goofy grin. She probably looked way too eager, but food was starting to sound really good and so was spending some time with him.
He held his hands out towards her and it was obvious that he was offering to carry her books for her.
Tay blushed and looked down at the stack of books she was holding. There were about 6 there and, although they were heavy and she hated carrying them around all the time, she felt really bad dumping them on Lachie.
Shrugging, Tay handed them over into his waiting arms, but before he could move his pulled the top two back into her own arms and held them tightly. She sent him a grin. "Compromise."
They waited until they were out of the library and away from the piercing stares of the librarian before Lachie spoke again. Tay smiled, listening as he asked how she knew Trent, and about how he was anti-social, and also about Amos Diggory.
Tay was happy listening to him, but made metal notes of all the key points he was saying. She found herself grinning like an idiot as they headed down the stairs and she couldn't help but think Lachie's babbling was really cute as she sneaked glances at him all the way down. She still couldn't believe this was actually happening...
"I have met Amos..." She shook her head as she remembered that particular run in. "I've never met anyone who could make the word hello sound like such an effort to say..."
She trailed off then remembered his original question. "As for Trent..." Color filled her cheeks again as she remembered their rather embarrassing first meet... She'd tried to hard to forget it but she remembered in great detail right now. "It's... a long story."
She had no doubt he'd still ask though, she'd just need to try and fight the persistent redness from her face as she retold the story.

Ungh. How many books did this girl have? Ah well, he asked for it. Holding his hands out, Tay dumped all six of her books into his outstretched arms. After a second thought, she took the top two, lightening his load by a fair bit. "Compromise," he repeated, unable to stop himself from smiling.
As they walked together and Lachlan babbled on about things he presumed Tay didn't even want to hear, he was suddenly very relieved that he didn't sound like that much of an idiot. "I reckon," he said back, a bit more enthusiastically than he would have really liked. "I mean, I thought being unsocial was typically a Ravenclaw trait," he said, babbling on once again. "No offence, but yeah," he shrugged.
One of these days he really was going to have to find a stopper between his brain and his mouth. Nothing was edited. "I've got time," he said as they reached the third floor landing. After all,t hey were going to be spending the next little while together (and some more time after that, Lachlan hoped!) "So, where did you and Trent first find your mutual love of the library?"
The food was close. Lachlan could smell it from the second floor stairs. His stomach gave a loud growl in response.

Why was it that every time he smiled at her something in her stomach started to do funny little flip-flop motions? And to think, up until today she'd been sitting there telling herself 'it's nothing but a silly school girl crush' and now here they were. Going to get something to eat. Still, she tried not to think too much into it, or into what Trent had said. She kept telling herself he was just being friendly.
Lachie made a comment about being unsocial being a Ravenclaw trait, quickly following it with a 'no offence'. Tay just laughed. "None taken. Believe me. You don't know how accurate that it. If you think madam pince is bad for her glares you've never tried been in the Ravenclaw common room on an evening and tried to speak to someone. It makes madam pince look jolly by comparison." Which was no lie. Some of the Ravenclaw's took their studying way too seriously.
As expected, Lachie didn't let the story drop and still wanted to know how they met. The color just didn't want to fade form her cheeks. "Oh gods..." She muttered with an awkward, embarrassed laugh. "Well... We met when I was in second year... and yes, in the library. I erm... I may have been attempting to trip over a book and fall flat on my face but urm... I missed the floor."
Tay glanced at Lachie only briefly before concentrating on the steps and trying to chase the lingering embarrassment away. She counted slowly to 10 in her head. She knew that what she'd said didn't even begin to cover the events of what had happened but remembering it alone was causing her to heat up, retelling it to someone - especially Lachie - was practically burn.
